One of the best game experiences that I've had in recent memory. 9.5/10. A must for those who like narrative-driven single player titles, doubly so if you like RPGs and/or sports games.

Is it as good as Transistor? I don't know. It's different. But if you enjoyed Transistor, I would bet that this is worth your time.

One of the most entertaining indie games that I've ever played. Well worth the $20.

Brilliant game. Entertaining in the way that only South park can be. Highly recommended.

Surprisingly satisfying game. While the combat remained rather stale and button mash-y throughout, the storyline and impressive visuals kept me engaged. While I thoroughly enjoyed the French language voice acting, I found it quite odd (and a bit of a letdown) that I was unable to change the subtitles or the in-game language to accompany the audio (especially for a game from a French developer that's set in Paris).

Solid TBS release. Campaign is a bit short but well thought through. Only negative is a really inconvenient save structure (or lack thereof).

Edit for Dragonfall DLC: Save system amended. New campaign was quite enjoyable .

I purchased this game after reading reviews about how it deviated from the standard CoD-style 'black ops' shooter in terms of plot originality. Unofortunately, I found the story (especially the 'twist') rather contrived and predictable. The campaign was excruciatingly long and at times quite tedious, falling well short of being able to justify 15 'chapters' of gameplay.

While I applaud the creator's ambitions in creating an original story (especially one that tackles relevant issues like PTSD, American military excess, and Middle Eastern interventionism, I think the end result could have been better. As an attempt at social and industry commentary Spec Ops is solid, unfortunately as a game it is not.

I really really wanted to like this game. The developers have put forth a laudable effort in the aesthetic arena, and the game mechanics are surprisingly tolerable for an unadulterated turn-based scheme. While this offering is apparently only the first of a forthcoming trilogy, there is simply no exuse to end the game so abruptly.

As someone who enjoys games primarily for the story, such an unsatisfying denouement taints the whole experience. The rest of the package is developed to a point that is more than satisfactory, but when a game is centred around the plot it seems rather silly to leave in such precarious shape.

I won't delve into details, but a significant proportion of the interesting strands of the plot remain unresolved (or worse, unexplained to begin with) and the tale's rather clichéd conclusion fails to have any emotional impact due to the lack of character development over such a short timeline. Unfortunately for me, The Banner Saga (at this point) remains a cautionary tale of how not to deliver on a very promising premise. Again, I really wanted to like the game... but I didn't.
