This is a good port with only a couple minor technical issues. The visuals are neat, though glitchy on occasion. I like the unique idea of the Celestial Brush system and the basis in mythology. But the gameplay is not good enough to redeem the incessant misogyny, awful repetitive dialogue, utter lack of challenge, inconsistent cues and abilities, and other annoyances.

I encountered no performance issues in the game, even with other programs open which tend to lag other games. The biggest technical issue I had was that you can't alt-tab or the game resolution resets, and you can only change it from the main menu. And you would have to get to a save point before exiting. So I never alt-tabbed to avoid that annoyance, but it would have been nice to be able to use my computer for notes and looking up guides for the last few things I was missing.

The game has a complete lack of combat difficulty. It would take some real effort to actually die. In normal encounters you can spam a couple buttons and maybe get hit a couple times. For bosses and endgame trials you can just slap on a couple items and do the same thing. I never used a single resurrection charge, and you can store up to four. By the end I also had 15 of an item that grants you an additional charge instantly. Not to mention tons of consumables that I only ever used for the endgame demon gate trials to make them go faster - in which case using them made getting perfect ratings a breeze. You might think this is because the game is aimed at a younger or more causal audience. But I would not want any children to be exposed to the way your sidekick talks.

Issun never fails to point out the appearance of any female character you interact with and to make highly inappropriate comments. I forgot the name of one of the important characters because she's only ever referred to as "busty babe". The developers even gave her boob jiggle physics, which is completely out of place in this game. Even when that's not going on, the characters tend to repeat themselves and talk in loops. The game keeps notes of your current objectives, which is a good feature. In fact, you wouldn't be missing much if you just skipped all of the cutscenes. Would save the exasperation from listening to these people. The game likes to hold your hand for most things, even when they're very obvious, but it lets go for some of the most nonsensical stuff. Apparently racing someone means you have to headbutt them. I also had to look up how to progress in the very beginning because they want you to revive some trees, but NOT the same kind of tress you've been working on reviving for the whole game to that point.

There is a day/night cycle. But again, it only serves to get in the way. There are hidden chests that have moonlight shine on them at night. SOME of them you can see poking up from the ground during the day, but some are completely invisible. Once I found that out, I always wanted it to be night, so the switch to day was just an annoyance (plus, you get the nighttime ability fairly later on from the daytime ability). But then, there are some things that only occur during the day. For example, most animals show up during the night (they're sleeping on the ground), but birds do not. The fishing minigame, in addition to being garbage, also has certain fish exclusive to day or night. In addition, every cycle change is another minor cutscene, which you can skip after a second, but it still is another break in the gameplay.

Speaking of skipping, you can speed up dialogue by holding the cancel button, but not during cutscenes. (Skip cutscenes by pressing Start/Enter twice. These two are some of the most important things to know about the game, and it doesn't give you a tutorial on that.) There are also some repetitive scenes that are unskippable. Thankfully, you can skip the lengthy, absolutely pointless cutscene that plays every time you feed an animal - it's always the same and mostly just eating sounds. There are lots of other little things that really just felt badly designed. The pinnacle of which is the end credits. They're cute, but almost completely unreadable.

Now for inconsistencies. Some of the dialogue contradicts itself on what certain people or abilities can or can't do, etc. Plus a lot of things that just don't make sense, like the interlude during the final boss. There's an item that says it protects you from fire, but it does NOT protect you from traps that spray fire, or from platforms that are on fire. You need to use powers for those. Another thing that you might not notice if you're not going for completionism is that some hidden areas don't have the same clues found in the rest of the game. For example, bombable walls that don't have the bombable marker.

There are a couple things that are permanently missable, so look that up if you're going for 100%. On the plus side, the majority of the game is very open to return to. Also, keep a save before you leave the sunken ship the first time. Otherwise, if you can stand going through the game a second time, you can get a super powerup item only in new game + if you collect all the beads first.

I never really figured out how the slot machine phase of the final boss is supposed to work, but here's a tip: don't slash all three columns at once.

Spin Rhythm is an extremely fun and addicting rhythm game and early access done right. It's quite different from any other rhythm game I've played. The devs are fairly active on the Discord server and always working to improve the game. The game is very polished, and visually appealing, with very few bugs. It's very customizable, especially the controls. I use keyboard and mouse, but a variety of controllers and rhythm game devices are also supported. As of this review, there are 30 songs with 5 difficulties each, and more songs are to be added for free as well as future DLC packs.

The gameplay flow and learning curve are extremely smooth, aside from the highest difficulty. If you're playing casually, you might not even be affected. But rhythm game pros, be aware that you might get to Expert in your first day or two, but you almost certainly will not be playing XD charts without many hours of practice. Of course, this is something the devs are aware of and have worked to address during early access, while still allowing a challenging level of play.

I don't plan on creating my own charts at the moment, but if that's something you're interested in, be aware that the track editor is still in a fairly early state as of this writing, although all the essentials are included. They're hard at work on improving it, though. Also be aware that there can't be an official mechanism for sharing custom charts because that would be copyright trouble, but you can still share and play custom charts. If you eventually find the base game easy, customs can be on a whole new level.

Look up the "Run" flash game series by player_03. Boson X has better graphics and more types of objects, but the basic concept is identical. This game's controls feel worse because once you press a button, you're screwed. Even the earliest levels can be nearly impossible to read at times. And since the levels are randomly generated, you can't just keep practicing until you get it. But it's still pretty fun and I still have a lot of things to see, so it's worth a dollar I suppose. The soundtrack is good also.

Highly recommended, one of the best-executed remakes there's ever been. I didn't play the originals, but it's clear there was an incredible amount of work put into modernizing the games and even improving them. I'm definitely a Spyro fan after playing this and I hope they port more games over to Steam.

I'd only played one Spyro game before, Enter the Dragonfly on PS2. That was long ago, so I don't remember much of it. It was very interesting to see how the games evolved through the trilogy. Spyro REMEMBERS all his abilities from the second game to the third game. He has a lot of lines in the first game, usually some (not so) witty retort to everything; that was majorly tuned down for the next two games, which could be good or bad. The flying courses are a lot less troublesome in the third game, which also greatly reduced the amount of time to get through the story of each world. The second game is unique with pre-rendered scenes before and after each world, but it gets annoying that you have to go through everything again each time you revisit each world. Thankfully, all scenes are skippable. Also, the second game improved almost everything I didn't like about the first, especially the ability to "hover" at the end of a glide.

Graphics are fantastic. Gameplay, well, I love collecting things and getting all those 100%s. The platforming and everything is very smooth for the most part. The games do start out very easy, but the difficulty increases nicely as they progress. There are also plenty of extra challenges to take on. It's also cool that they mix in different genres, especially with the sub-worlds in the third game, so the gameplay is more varied.

I'm not sure if the Sparx challenges in the third game unlock as soon as you leave the world; I didn't do them until the end, so the upgrades they gave didn't get a chance to be very useful. Would recommend doing those as they become available. Also, make use of the nifty "point to treasure" feature that was added. Very helpful for cleaning up the last few gems, which can be hard to find.

There's a lot more to say, I really skimmed over reviewing the gameplay. But I would recommend experiencing it for yourself if you have even a mild interest. Having a whole trilogy of games is a great value.

I didn't write a review when I finished this game, but I keep thinking back to it as an example of a really enjoyable game, so I have to recommend it. It's not perfect, but the mechanics are fun and work well. It's not too easy or too hard; the story is interesting and keeps you invested. Plenty of collectibles to hunt so you can go back and experience areas anew with full upgrades. Lots of mobility to explore the world whether you want to go slowly or really fast. Just all around a fun experience.

I have never experienced lag with the controls that a lot of other reviews mention. Not sure if it's based on certain hardware? I only played a few games on the arcade version, after playing this, and keyboard is much nicer for input, although the control scheme and lack of movement takes away from the intended experience a little bit.

The biggest con about this version is that it has apparently been abandoned after less than a year, which is a ridiculously short time for a game with so much content on other platforms as well as potential future content. Also, there is a LOT of content that was never added to this version but is freely available in other versions. If you're looking for active support and updates from the developers, don't buy unless it's cheap. It does go on sale sometimes at least, although DLC is at most 20% off (some are never discounted), so even combined with the 20% off bundles you're still putting out quite a bit to get all the songs. I feel the price per song is reasonable, though.

Still, I will recommend the game because even just the base game provides a lot of entertainment and the game itself is really fun. One of my favorite rhythm games that I've played. Most of the songs are really good and there's something for almost everyone. There's no Vocaloid in this version (get the Switch version if you're into that), and the menu and song titles/artists are all in English/Romaji (unlike the arcade version). It'll still strain your hands after a while, but there are way fewer taps than some other games and you don't need as much warm-up. It's more about muscle memory for certain patterns, and even a few months later I'm still noticing definite improvements. Though I still have many, many more hours to get close to getting all the achievements.

The difficulty range is very good. Unless you're at the top of the leaderboard, there's always something you can challenge yourself with but also plenty that will be comfortable for you. Speaking of leaderboards, your high scores and ranking (per song and global) are always visible which makes it really fun to try to improve your scores. Also, a really nice feature is that if you "no miss" or "full chain" a song, then beat that score without doing so, it won't remove the tag in the song listing.

I created a guide to all the versions of Groove Coaster as well as a browser-based score tracker and stats analysis program. See here for more information: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1W7LavJKqfvauztVIdbxeII_HtA1Z9XJ5U13g-I-DgJs/edit

Fantastic and highly enjoyable puzzle/mystery game. Great graphics, wonderful puzzles, intriguing story, and very few shortcomings. Improves on the previous entries' already solid foundation: for example, the addition of prerendered cutscenes is really cool.

The puzzles/mechanisms are, again, super satisfying and fun to watch. I was almost never stuck or frustrated; clues and items make it pretty clear how to progress but don't make it too easy. Plus the hint system is there if you need a little help.

This game and the others in the series are an absolute steal at sale prices. This game is about three times the length of the previous ones and well worth the price, including multiple endings. The story is really interesting, continuing the journey from the previous games, and I can't wait to see what happens in the next one!

My only gripe with this game is that one of the optional endgame puzzles is based on real-time and I would have gone crazy looking for the couple things I was missing, not having noticed that the clock moved in real time.

First boss is broken. Which I found out after spending the 20 minutes to finish the first level. There are apparently checkpoints, but they don't do any good because you can't resume a level from them. Huge waste of 20 minutes just like all of this series.

There are only two minigames that the game alternates between. The first is click the falling sprites, which is ridiculously simple. At least the numbers you have to click are reasonable. The second is just Battleship but with more small ships, and in order to make it harder, they make the AI get "luckier" as the game goes on. The art is not great and not really worth the trouble. Soundtrack is also not great - there was one song where I really wanted to turn it off. On the plus side, the game seems to be free of glitches and saves your progress during a session.

Cute little game, doesn't take long to finish if that's what you're there for. But if you care to stray off the path, there are several secret areas with more nice visuals. The signs left by players add an extra layer of humor and interactivity.

The launcher didn't seem to respect my graphics settings, but that's okay because it was better fullscreen anyway.
