A really enjoyable mystery-solving game. I nearly completed it in one sitting because I was so engaged and interested in the story. The visuals and interaction have a pleasant flair to them, and although I'm not familiar with the setting, it felt very authentic. I might say it was a little too convenient how well some discussions related to the present day, but history does tend to repeat itself.

Although there technically aren't puzzles, it was still fun to gather the clues and make discoveries and guesses about how the pieces fit together. In the end it becomes unambiguous, which I prefer over games where you're never sure if you're making the right choice. That's not to say it was predictable.

The price I would say is a little high for a game that can be completed on your own in 3-4 hours. However, there is some replay value, because I'm sure I missed a good bit of optional dialogue (and cab discussions may be random). It might be a little tedious to see it all because of how the save works, but the game does allow you to skip some long sections. There is also an interesting potential sequel hook from an unresolved point which I would like to see, but the developers recently released a different genre of game as an Epic exclusive, so I don't know if that will happen.

Achievement hunters beware that some achievements are missable if you progress to the end. If you look at the image and maybe the title (more spoilery) of each one, they're easy enough to pick up along the way. The first two as well as Vision and Master Sleuth are not missable.

In summary, this is an engrossing story with a solid presentation that I'd definitely recommend getting if it's on sale.

Later levels are barely playable. Whatever service the game uses for login seems to be down (probably their website), which also means three achievements are broken: checking the rankings, sharing your score, and obtaining all achievements. As a rhythm game it's very barebones. There are some nice parts to it, and after beating the game I sort of got used to it, but I wouldn't really recommend it.

The calibration didn't help much and can't be adjusted manually. During play there is absolutely no indication of timing, so I don't know how to try to adjust the calibration, if that even is part of the problem. Hits just don't seem to register properly a lot of the time. Maybe because it's hard to follow what the notes are timed to. Maybe because of how the game prioritizes your input to targets that are closer to the middle (that's actually a good thing). Or maybe the timings are just weird and very strict.

Most of the later levels have fast hits which are very hard with the one button setup (second button only does anything for simultaneous notes in multiple circles). It's also very hard to count them, so you'll just spam and hope you don't hit one too many and break your streak. The concept sounds cool in theory, but in practice you just end up spamming keys (to little avail, since the timing is so weird) and you're hitting off-beat notes in the inner circles all the time. The reaction time is quite short, so you can't prepare for any complicated segments.

Pro tips: you can use keyboard and mouse controls at the same time. MAYBE if you're really good and can unhook the two sides of your brain, you could use that to hit fast notes while also doing double hits. More usefully, if you hold down the primary button, you can use the secondary button to hit notes (except pinks), and it won't break your combo if you miss (most of the time?). However, it does seem to stop increasing your combo after a hold. You might be able to rack up shields this way, but if you're in the middle of the level you'll have to make sure you're hitting a target when you start holding down. Also, I tried to release hold ends slightly earlier than I would hit a normal note, before the sweep reaches the circle, and that seemed to help.

It's a great game. Fun and satisfying puzzles, interesting mechanics and themes, and fantastic visuals. For me, the first playthrough was just right in gameplay and difficulty - some thinkers, but nothing that stumped me for too long. A very enjoyable experience. One minor criticism is that it's very linear, whereas I was expecting something more in the vein of Space Hole.

[Spoilers may follow, I'm making this a mini-guide to secret content.]

However, if you only play it once to the ending, you're missing out on a significant portion of the game (including a second ending). And yet the game barely even prods you in that direction. I only knew to look because of the achievements and a couple things I noticed in my playthrough (not that I had any recollection of where they were once I was done). You have to really, really be looking and scour every nook to find the path through the second playthrough. I almost felt like I needed a map of the whole game - and I have no idea what that would look like, given the nature of the physics. Compared to the relative ease of the primary path, it's a big change. I personally did not want to spend the dozens of hours on it, so I used guides when I wasn't sure where to go next. The guide on Steam is too vague, so I recommend the video by Lilith LeBlanc.

Once you're done the second playthrough, technically you will have 100%ed the game (or just have a couple achievements that are easy to mop up). But there's actually still more! Just after the very beginning of the game, there's a well hidden alternate path leading straight to the ending. And then, in between the purple and orange god spaces, there's another well hidden path that actually contains more puzzles and more paths. These are extremely easy to miss, especially if you think you're done after the second ending. I would really have liked for the game to give more direction and acknowledgement of them.
(Please let me know if I missed any other side areas. I'd like to play them too :P)

I recommend keeping your save files for easier backtracking. A significant missing feature is the ability to duplicate save files, so that you can explore alternate routes and mess around without blocking off areas by accident (or having to beat the whole game again). Thankfully, just copying and renaming save files works perfectly (e.g duplicate your main file and rename it from 1 to 6). They're stored in AppData/LocalLow/William Chyr Studio/Manifold Garden/Saves.

Credit for some content in this review to The Sojourner for the guide on Steam and gelly for the speedruns and strategies. Thanks to Rychro for gifting me the game.

A pretty good amount of entertainment for the price. The gameplay is simple in concept but pretty addicting, like most endless reaction games. However, this simplicity makes the game's shortcomings all the more apparent.

For those starting out, there's no introduction, but from the discussions it seems the developer tried to incorporate as many possible control schemes for "left" and "right" as possible, so the game should be easy to get into. The mouse can also be used in the menu.

The biggest problem with the game is that the amount of time you have to react to obstacles (if you can see them coming at all) is highly dependent on the path and curvature of the running surface, which seems to be *randomized* on every play (primarily apparently in the daily levels, as the regular levels have the obstacles randomized as well). This is counter to the game's claim that dying will always be your fault, because even when you know the course pretty well, you can still die because you couldn't tell when and where the next obstacle was.

The daily levels are a nice addition, but they are far from fully featured. The game only shows your best ever score on each daily mode, not your best on each day, so you have to remember that yourself if you're trying to beat it, and there's no tracking of your past scores. This also means it's unclear when the daily reset is. There is only one overall leaderboard for each difficulty as well. There are somewhat grindy achievements for getting 60 seconds on 1, 3, 7, and 30 different days for the two higher daily difficulties, and these are also not tracked at all.

One other minor annoyance is that you can die so quickly that your instinctive next inputs carry over to navigating the main menu, causing you to accidentally start on the wrong difficulty. And if there's a pause/quit button, it isn't Escape, so you might just have to die intentionally to return to the menu.

All that said, I enjoy the straightforward challenge and varying difficulties of the game, and you can definitely have fun with it, especially if you want to keep coming back to try mastering the daily levels. However, if you are sensitive to motion, this game is probably not for you.

Where to begin? With the collection, you get a series of six great games that have had a lot of work put into them during development and remastering. You can also buy individual games if you want. Whether you prefer single-player or multiplayer, solo or co-op, there's tons of content for you. There's also a lot of replay value with achievements, challenges, hidden collectibles, and more.

I'd only played Halo CE, on PC, before getting this, and forgot how it looked, but the remaster is very noticeable when you look at a comparison. Halo 2 looks really fantastic. Halo 3 is a little rough coming off of that. If you're a fan of Firefly, ODST has a fun surprise or three. Each game makes some changes and additions to keep things fresh and I never found the gameplay boring or repetitive, but at the same time they keep some of the staples that make the series stand out. Some things can be frustrating at times, but it's not supposed to be super easy.

Now I really hope they bring Halo 5 to Steam by the time I get Halo Infinite, which I definitely plan on doing eventually after playing this collection. Also Halo Wars 2.

The only thing I don't recommend is the Halo 4 Spartan Ops, unless you have three friends who own the collection and can all play at the same time. The difficulty isn't adjusted at all when playing solo and it's just a slog through endless waves of enemies on the same few maps. You respawn instead of having to restart, but it's not worth the time to play these (which is very high), as it's clear they put very minimal effort into them. The menu doesn't even take you to the next chapter when completing one.

A fun runner game with plenty of extra challenges for those interested. It won't take you very long to beat the game, although the last two worlds can be quite frustrating. But my favorite part is that different extra parts of each level unlock as you complete objectives in them. It's fun doing all the challenges and working on speedruns to try to get the best time. I was worried that worlds 3 and 4 would be a pain to work on, but since you unlock faster paths with each challenge, they actually end up being just as quick as the first two worlds, after putting in some effort to do the challenges.

The game is clearly a mobile port, but it works well and looks nice. You can change some settings and alt-tab works, unlike a lot of native PC games. The controls are simple but the gameplay can become quite challenging. These two aspects combine very well with the relatively short levels (no checkpoints) for an addictive experience. The difficulty curve is also quite reasonable, and it's interesting to replay earlier levels with the mechanics you're taught later.

One thing I don't like is the platforms that have their color randomized in a couple of the later levels. It feels out of place in a game about precision, practice, and finding the fastest paths. I also had some small glitches with the leaderboards sometimes not loading after a submission (completing the level again usually fixed it) and the fans sometimes being inconsistent. But none of these significantly detract from the game.

I received the game from the developer (or publisher?) on SG. Thanks!

Also, one thing I don't remember the game telling me, although it's very possible I forgot, is that you can hold the jump button while in a fan to go higher. This is crucial for some challenges, and it's unfortunate that you can't view the tips again later. If you don't know, for example, that you get a boost by changing color right before hitting a platform, getting three stars will definitely be harder. On that note, don't try for three stars until you finish all four challenges for a level, because each one adds ways to move faster.

The game itself is fine. I finished the tutorial and it seems like a pretty standard Hearthstone-like (sorry, I'm sure other games predated Hearthstone), and the quality is good. However, it seems like an unoptimized mobile port (using 1-2GB of memory constantly for such a simple game). The initial download is small, but it immediately prompts for an additional download of many GB, which runs slowly and slows down your computer as well as the game. This download goes to your C drive no matter where you installed the game. Furthermore, the data isn't removed when you uninstall the game. Additionally, the very first thing you see on starting the game is a warning that they screwed up the translations and some selections will play the wrong language. Can't recommend such sloppy practices.

A lovely mechanical puzzle/adventure game with a lot of clever and very satisfying puzzles. The graphics look and feel great, with only a few minor bumps.

There's a great hint system, but it's not intrusive if you want to do things on your own. However, the hints can't help you with the more traditional puzzles, like the sliding piece puzzles (thankfully there are only a few of them in the game). The state of those resets if you quit to the menu, so you can start fresh if needed. Occasionally things can be a little obtuse or hard to find, but if you're patient you'll definitely get it eventually, or if not you can just look up how to proceed (there's a great guide at pcgameswalkthroughs dot nl). Every level is self-contained and done in order, so you don't have to spend a lot of time trying to figure out how the clues you've gathered fit together.

The achievements are missable pickups that can be pixel hunts at times, I just used a guide to make sure I didn't miss any. Be sure to check out the achievements menu for a bonus area. There isn't much else to add a level of replayability. But that's understandable for this type of game, which takes a lot of work to craft. I'd love for more of them to exist.

The story is a little sparse and implies tension that isn't really present at all during the levels, not that a time limit or anything similar would be welcome. But the delightful puzzles and systems definitely make up for any deficiency there. I'm not sure why they chose to base it on Leonardo, since the science quickly goes off the rails, including one of the main mechanics seeming physically impossible, but it doesn't detract from the experience and the setting/atmosphere is immersive.

Spartan Assault has to be the only Halo game where you can legitimately die to Grunts. It gets very difficult at times after the first couple sets of levels, with no difficulty settings, although there are weapons and powerups you can buy with points you earn by playing. Alt-tab is broken: even if you set the game resolution to the same as your desktop, it'll shrink down when you alt-tab and shrink your other windows. Inexcusable for a game published by Microsoft. However, the price is low for the level of polish, and if you like the game, there are three missions per level to grind out and you can go for gold medals. The story is fairly minimal and is self-contained, but overall the game is well made.

Don't buy this because it's going free and leaving Steam to be an Epic exclusive. The game is really fun - when the matchmaking works. I've had a lot of great games and great teammates, but also a lot of horrible matchups. The game will put you on the losing side of a 0-4 or more game with 2 minutes left. What a terrible system. And when you're waiting for players for a new game, it'll give up after a few seconds and put bots on one or both teams. And if you're playing ranked, get ready for a ridiculous amount of quitters and flamers for a 5 minute game. A lot of the queues are pretty much empty, maybe that will improve eventually with F2P. Again, the game is really fun, especially with friends, but only when you're not fighting the matchmaking system or getting berated or frustrated because the game hasn't put you with players of similar skill.
