A year and a half on, I'm going to flip the recommended to unrecommended. I do recommend it - to someone with friends to play with, or who really likes arena shooters, and is patient.

Unfortunately, the game has such a frustrating barrier for entry. I recommend it privately and play with friends, and it's a blast, but the gameplay isn't good enough for people who don't love Halo to outweigh the still-subpar MTX model, average roll out of features/content, and very slow pace of bug fixes.

The devs obviously are trying to scrape something together, but the game is too far behind and has some fundamental issue I don't think will be solved until another entry happens (if it happens), because the time sink isn't worth it. For every three bugs fixed, two more seem to appear, and the networking is still just straight painful at times.

I love the game, I will see it through and play it. I recommend it to anyone who wants a fun time casually with friends and is willing to deal with a rough time. I don't recommend it if you aren't interested in that, or aren't a Halo fan already who is willing to give it a try.
