It's just not good enough. Repetitive and badly designed. I really wanted to enjoy this. Better alternatives elsewhere.

This is very much a spiritual successor to Planescape: Torment. The world is rich and absolutely weird. Almost every conversation with every NPC or companion you come across leaves a profound mark, unlike anything since it's spiritual predecessor. The art accentuates and compliments the depth conveyed to you in words.

While I thoroughly recommend this title to fans of narrative driven, turn-based RPG's and lovers of the weird, it does come with minor faults. Combat feels a little lacklustre and many of the PC and companion skills are somewhat mechanically mundane. There are quite a lot of minor bugs left unfixed and Xbox One gamepad was totally unusable for me. This detracts from an otherwise incredible experience.

However, when all is said and done, this game is a phenomenal artistic achievement and an incredible play.

It's great fun and a lot more like the original than people are claiming. I've played both single and multiplayer and have absolutely no complaints. I would have appreciated another faction on launch but that's about it.

I've finished the single-player campaign and played quite a bit of multi-player on all difficulty levels with and without friendly fire and codex rules.

It's my opinion that while the game is very fun in multi-player on harder difficulties and squad co-coordination, the release was ultimately very premature and doesn't deserve a positive review even if the core gameplay is very fun. The artwork is absolutely grimdark and totally true to the 40k setting - there is no game truer.

The single-player story line starts off interesting and then ultimately spirals into a profoundly boring conclusion. You even retread some old levels and the enemies are re-skinned without any new additions. This reeks of a rush job and you can really feel it in the final two chapters.

Multiplayer is a total blast with friends on harder difficulties with friendly fire enabled, it totally changes the game. The problem is the lingering non-game breaking bugs and feature omissions. The title has the potential to get stale quickly.

Overall I'd recommend buying this on a steam sale, but in my opinion the publisher is at fault for rushing out a product that needed another year in developement.

Excellent vehicle combat mechanics and satisfying character brawling. combined with an authentic post apocalyptic open world and well written, engaging characters you can do no wrong playing this. While it is repetitive, it's addictive as hell and doesn't seem to get boring.

The storyline is also unique for those concerned about getting a move tie-in.

Single player review

The world and the art design seem inspired and brilliant, however the incoherent storyline, bad translation and lacklustre design decisions put me off. The character design RPG elements are a definite winner. Overall though the game just falls short in the areas that matter. I really wanted to enjoy this but I'm simply unable to.

I've been playing this recently with TemplarGFX's ACM Overhaul v3.0 mod installed. Having never played the original unmodded version I can only comment on the modded version I am now playing.

I've been playing on "faster weaker soldier" mod mode and the game has proven an addictive and satisfying followup to Aliens. The modded Alien AI has proven a wicked challenge and really makes it feel like you're reliving the film. I haven't finished the title yet, but there are a fair amount of bugs left, and another complaint would be the balancing issues that are the result of ACM Overhaul's tweaks. You're sometimes left with too little health or ammo for a "Normal" difficulty setting. Some of the alien gameplay definitely needs to be tweaked for optimal playability but I hear things are improving constantly.

The story line is relatively straight forward and could have been executed better. The characters are pretty shallow, but this overall it doesn't detract from the game too much.

I haven't put down the game since I've started playing and I recommend it to fans and non-fans alike with the ACM Overhaul mod installed. It looks like it's finally given this game the justice it deserved from a rushed release. If you, like me had only played Alien: Isolation and avoided this title due to the stigma then do what I did and you won't be dissapointed.

Vastly improves on some of the issues the brilliant Dragonfall had. Vastly improved UI and a well balanced party with interesting and engaging characters. The main story line was engaging and well written but fell short of Dragonfall's epic arch. Overall definitely a large improvement and a lot of fun to play, I was totally hooked. The Matrix redesign is definitely more interesting as well. I can't wait for the next entry in the series.
