Early Access Review
This is my favorite pachinko/peggle type game of the last decade, if not all time.

This game is easy to learn, hard to master. I play games of all difficulty levels, from point and click adventures to Hotline Miami. This game is approachable and pretty easy to learn, although there are nuances that the game does not do a great job of teaching, which will hopefully be fixed with a better tutorial system in the future.

Peglin is basically the Slay the Spire of Pachinko. If you didn't like Slay the Spire, you won't like this game. If you don't like Peggle and pachinko, you won't like this game. Procedurally based games and physics games and pachinko games all have heavy RNG elements.

The same way I would not give a negative review to a time management game for requiring meticulous micromanaging, I would similarly not downvote a procedural game for RNG or downvote a pachinko game for RNG.

Slay the Spire lets you choose your own path through a forked path system. So does Peglin -- and, just like Slay the Spire, you can pick from combat, mystery, boss, and treasure rooms.

Slay the Spire lets you create a custom build by collecting artifacts that offer permanent benefits. So does Peglin -- e.g. items that permanently increase bomb damage.

Slay the Spire lets you build a deck of cards that are randomly shuffled at the start of a round. So does Peglin -- except instead of cards, you have pachinko balls that have various effects.

My husband has never played Slay the Spire or a similar game. He tried this game on my account and got all the way to the third area on his first try, by taking the time to learn the game, read the text about artifacts and cards, and building accordingly.

The RNG on this game isn't ♥♥♥♥♥♥. It's just like Slay the Spire, if not easier, because all content in Peglin is unlocked from the start, unlike Slay the Spire. If you don't like RNG and procedurally generated games, you will not like Peglin. If you get mad about RNG, you will not like this game.

This is a game where build matters. Some items and balls you can pick are really incompatible with each other! Others make "overpowered" builds. I have never had a run where I couldn't make a fun build that kicked ass.

Just because someone thinks a build is overpowered, broken, and makes the game broken, that doesn't mean their opinion has anything to do with whether or not someone else will like it. There's nothing stopping a player from making an underpowered build as a challenge.

There is also the issue of confirmation biases regarding whether a build is overpowered or not. For instance, my husband likes multiball and refresh builds. I like Nosferatsorb builds. He is plays more multiball than me so therefore he is better at multiball because he put in practice.

You see this same argument with any game where a character can specialize, because of confirmation bias fueled by the fact people pick the same builds over and over and then complain the game doesn't have replay value.

If you want to get the most out of this game, learn to play it, try different builds, and go in with good faith and have fun. You will die. A lot. But you know what you'll also be doing? Playing pachinko the entire time, with no cutscenes or any filler. You're going to be doing what's advertised, which is bopping pegs and smooshing enemies. How far you get is up to you, your skill level, how much practice you put in, and yes -- a little RNG.

But, not knowing how a game works and being surprised by an enemy's scripted behavior isn't the fault of "RNG." Yes, the game takes skill. So what.
