Nightdive couldn’t have done a better job on this remaster! Leading up to release I was watching gameplay of the original Dark Forces released back in 1995, and I was stunned at how great the game looks in this. From the re-rendered cutscenes, the higher resolutions, real 3D environments, updated controls, higher framerates and more…it really just takes the playing experience to the next level. There is bonus content included that is cool to look at such as concept art, game dev info, cutscene development, pre-rendered images, and even a bonus level that was like a demo mission to showcase the original game. A few key options that were paramount for me enjoying this game to the full potential were the option to turn off ‘head bobbing’ and the ability to have ‘free mouse look’ since the original required you to use page up/page down to look up and down. I’m a huge Star Wars fan, as well as a fan of remastered videogames so I knew this was a day one buy for me. The price seems to be the only divisive thing about this game, with it being $29.99. For me, I feel like it’s fine because I really like remastered games, especially Star Wars games…and I don’t mind supporting the devs because I just want them to keep pumping out other titles to bring them back to life. On the other hand, it would be nice if it was five to ten dollars cheaper, but just be patient and pick this game up on sale because you won’t regret it. It is definitely worth it if you want to play a “Doom-like” game in the Star Wars universe. Awesome story, great soundtrack, killer graphics, a ton of weapons, and best of all….the appearance of my favorite bounty hunter.

Helldivers 2 is my favorite game of the year so far! Play with friends, with complete strangers, or grind out missions to support the cause while playing solo. The online co-op works amazing with recent updates, the missions have just enough variety, and the gameplay loop feels extremely good. In my 50+ hours fighting off the Terminids and Automatons, each time I dive down there is a unique experience awaiting me. As many others have said, this game is a breath of fresh air….from microtransaction currency able to be earned in-game, constant update and bug fix support, and protection through anti-cheat, the dev team really has focused on making your time with their game a great experience. Server issues were a problem at release because so many people were giving this game a try, and now everything is running great. There is no other feeling like being swarmed with enemies while your buddy calls in a perfectly placed orbital strike right in front of your eyes to save you. The pattern to call in reinforcements will forever be etched in my memory. Awesome game to have released in Q1 of 2024!

The Escaper is an awesome first person, escape room style puzzle game that introduces some unique puzzles, but at the same time is not super difficult. There are four total rooms that you are tasked with escaping, each one connected by super quick loading transition screens. The controls feel really nice and the graphics are great. Time to complete really varies depending on how many of these types of games you have played, and whether you use a guide for portions or not. The different rooms keep the feel of the game fresh and interesting. Overall, it was a fun puzzle game to complete without taking a long time to 100%! The achievements were fun to obtain because they are tied to how fast you can finish each room. I literally can’t get enough of escape room puzzle games!

If you are a fan of the survival roguelike genre then you’ll enjoy your time with this game! Despite being in early access, I ran into no problems throughout my time obtaining all achievements and doing many, many runs. You can expect your character to start out fairly weak in your initial couple runs but as you upgrade your stats and weapons, you really start seeing progression. There are a ton of weapons you can unlock by completing challenges and leveling up characters. There are currently three biomes (maps) that you can play, each with different hazard levels (difficulties) to challenge you as you boost your character’s stats. Overclocking your weapon is a sick feature that helps push you to deeper stages in the run while also customizing the weapon to your playstyle. I know in their content roadmap, more artifact airdrops are in the works as well as new maps to play which will be great. There is a ton of content that Funday Games wants to keep adding to the game so it will be cool to see it develop over the coming months. The achievements were fun to obtain, with you having to do dedicated runs to obtain one or two at a time. Overall it was a great experience, the only grindy achievement was the ”Big Spender” achievement, but I just threw on some Youtube and kept doing run after run. Great game for a great price, and it stays true the Deep Rock Galactic theme by having you focus on mining resources while managing the hordes of enemies around you. Can’t wait to see what is added in the future!

After putting a ton of hours into this game, I can say that I had a good time. There are things that I really enjoyed throughout my time with Suicide Squad, and there are some negatives as well that I want to share. The story for me was okay, with me not having played any of the Arkham games yet (and I for sure will eventually) I didn’t have that expectation going into this game like a lot of people. I honestly like the premise, killing the good guys to save the world…because I probably like the villains as much as the heroes in movies. I kind of wish the heroes had cooler deaths, but that is just me nitpicking. The pace of the game did feel a little slow because of the amount of cut scenes. As you play throughout the story, you are continuously learning about new enemies, mission types and abilities etc. for when the world finally opens up to you. I think a big positive was the variety of mission types, especially for the endgame. The grind to get my mastery levels up to obtain the final achievements was not too bad. Gameplay feels really good on my current pc setup, with only a few crashes in 50 hours. I really enjoyed the Riddler challenges the most, but currently two of the three achievements associated with the Riddler are broken for a lot of players including me, keeping me from perfecting this game. Hopefully there is a patch soon because it is not only happening on Steam, but Xbox and PlayStation as well which absolutely drives me crazy. Side missions were cool, same for the main playable characters. Each character has a completely different feel to them which keeps things fresh. Co-Op worked flawlessly and made this game more fun. I think Rocksteady hit the nail on the head with level progression and difficulty stages that can be adjusted dramatically as you get familiar with the game and your build. There is definitely good in this game, and you will probably be able to grab it for a steal sooner than later. It’ll be cool to revisit for seasonal content and achievements in the future.

Every Thursday night my friends and I play puzzle games to just chill, relax, and solve some puzzles together while we hang out in Discord. Boxes: Lost Fragments is the perfect game to work your brain a little while having fun doing it. I loved Big Loop Studios’ last game (Doors: Paradox) so I knew I had to pick up this one the day it released. The game feels really nice, it is visually stunning especially for a 3D puzzle game, and the music is relaxing. Puzzles were not hard, because the moves to unlock the boxes flowed really well into the next move you needed to make. In my opinion, this game was the perfect length for the experience it gives. If you’re really into puzzle games you could probably beat this game super quick but if you are just getting into them, maybe it will take you a little longer. Overall, I enjoyed my experience playing through this game and can’t wait to play through the next one!

Palworld’s early access launch has been awesome to experience so far and I believe this game deserves all the success it’s receiving. Coming in at a very affordable price point, there is way more content than I expected when I first started playing. The grind to reach max level, collecting exotic pals, and unlocking the best weapons/armor was an extremely satisfying experience. As you play through the game (alone or with friends) you build up your base and capture pals to aid you in your quest to conquer tower bosses. Level your character up and learn how to craft more advanced weapons and pal spheres so that you can build your team of the most powerful pals! You can clearly see inspiration from Pokemon and survival/base building games like Ark, but Palworld feels like it is a completely different monster altogether. The gameplay loop is unique and gives off a sense of progression even when you’re sitting in your base smelting ore or cooking fried eggs. Though this game is in “early access”, it ran really well for me. You can play with friends or go on your journey alone. The size of the map in this game blew my mind. PvP, more pals, new bosses, and even more islands to explore are apparently in the works for future updates. Overall, my experience with Palworld has been awesome and I can’t wait to see what else is added as time goes on!

After playing through Time Survivors and maxing out the meta progression, I can confidently say this game is a great time! I put about 15 hours or so into the pre-release demo version of the game this past week when I found out progression carries over, and I just put another 10 hours or so in today to finish up the rest of achievements. Getting this game on sale for the launch week price of $3.99 is a steal. I’ve been in love with bullet hell roguelikes lately and this definitely scratched my itch. Time Survivors took the “survivors” formula and added their own twist to it. With five unique maps and twelve different characters, it felt like there were a ton of build options to test out and fit your playstyle. My two most played characters have been Anita and Nero. My favorite thing is the meta progression system that tracks your overall progress in the game and lets you know clearly what to shoot for next. I’m so thankful that they added the Chrono Forge (ability to buy upgrade materials with gold) to the full release game because farming all the time crystals you need to 100% would have driven me insane. The devs have been super awesome promoting this game and listening to the community, well done Lunar Chili!

If you love 2D souls-likes or are a fan of metroidvanias, then this game is a must have! Really enjoyed the journey and was extremely satisfied with my time spent in The Last Faith. There are a ton of really sick weapons depending on how you want to play, but after I found my big greatsword I stuck with that! The firearms are cool and the custom executions were awesome as well. The world feels huge and with there not being a linear path, you can end up in areas that you are not supposed to be in yet. Being able to mark on your map where items/doors/locations are that you need to backtrack to is a great quality of life feature. There is a nice variety of magic spells to play with as well. If you enjoy creepy NPCs with their own questlines, plenty of hidden areas to uncover, and an awesome art style; then you’ll love exploring this game. I’m a big fan of the dark atmosphere this game has, kind of reminds me of Bloodborne/Castlevania. Once you get your character to the right level and keep your weapon leveled, the bosses aren’t as big of a challenge. With that said, I loved the design of every boss, especially the hidden ones. There are achievements that you can get locked out of if you progress the story too far without meeting questline requirements but a lot of the cheevos come naturally. In the future, an NG+ feature would be a great addition to wrap up any missed achievements that you miss. Overall, this game is really solid and is an insanely fun time!

Heading into the release of this game back in February of this year, I didn’t exactly know what to expect. I’m a fan of the Harry Potter movies and novels, so I thought I would enjoy this game. After finishing everything in Hogwarts Legacy and obtaining all achievements, I can say that I loved everything this game brought to the table and was completely blown away at how fun it was. The amount of content packed into the different systems is truly awesome. The combat was super fun especially when fighting multiple enemies and getting later/stronger spells to combo in with your attacks. The story was simple but sweet with multiple side quests and characters to get to know. I really enjoyed being able to create potions, upgrade my gear and wand, customize my vivarium, and grow different plants. Collecting all the demiguise statues and completing all the Merlin trials were enjoyable and really made you explore all areas of this amazing wizarding world. I felt like a master wizard by the end of the game. I was sad when I finished all the broom flight trials because flying was super fun to me. I ran into a few bugs back when I played it on release but I’m pretty sure they’ve all been taken care of now. Hogwarts Legacy was an awesome experience that is a breath of fresh air for fans of the HP series or fans of fantasy in general. Loved my time with this game!
