Review After 100%

Hands down one of my favorite games of the year. Wonderful souls-like that borrowed ideas from other titles and put its own twist on them. Had a feeling going into this game that I would like it, but I didn’t expect to be craving more at the end. After the last boss and grinding up to level 50 for the achievement, I felt like I finally mastered the combat and feel. This title was an awesome one to 100%, but it wasn’t necessarily a cake walk. A few bosses really pushed me to learn their move set. Highly recommend to Dark Souls/Bloodborne/Sekiro fans. It feels great to play an indie game that is just fun and isn’t trying to be the next big thing. I picked up this game for around $18 and I definitely got my money’s worth. In parts you can tell this game didn’t have the same budget as AAA games but it was made by a handful of people, and as a small studio they did an incredible job. I’ll break down my review based on things that I really liked about my experience with Thymesia and things I would love to see in the next game (whether that’s a sequel or new installment).
Things I enjoyed:
+ Combat – parrying was amazing when you get the hang of it, the wound mechanic is awesome with the white health bar vs green, and the plague weapons were sick, also it was fun being able to switch up my talents depending on who/what I was fighting or if I wanted to try a different playstyle
+ Atmosphere - the different areas felt really good and fit the tone of the game
+ Music - soundtrack is solid, boss music especially
+ Bosses - especially first boss and last boss, but the side missions have great fights as well
Improvements for the next:
+ More Content – maybe one or two more areas
+ Voiced Characters – just a nice addition to add even more connection to characters
Overall, Thymesia is definitely a must have if you enjoy these types of games. They pulled it off and made a quality experience that leaves you ready for more, which is a good feeling to have.
