I've never played any type of instrument as a child, nor have any musical ability. The first time I held a guitar is when my son got one from Santa. I just bought this for his xbox and liked it so much I got the pc version. That being said, I am starting to pick up a few things and have progressed on a few songs. It was hard for me to relate the music and sound to the actions on the guitar given that I have never played, nor have any confidence in my ability. I finally realized I was overthinking the playing, and realized perhaps playing or learing was not impossible.

It doesn't teach how to read music, and you don't need to read music or know notes to play, you can hear when you hit the wrong string or note. That's still very confusing at times when the game uses musical phrases or notes, but that's my fault, not the game. The narrator speaks as if you've never heard these things before and starts you at the very basic level. The better you perform, the more the game throws at you. I know an instructional device is effective when I have a revelation and say to myself, "ohhh that's how it works." I love this game.

I love this game. Aside from my experiences with friends and competing in TFC this is the most fun I've had with an FPS. I also need to mention the PS2 team and the work they have put into this. If there is any doubt that the developer listens to the community please subscribe to their YouTube channel. The command center episodes are hysterical, and the “operation make game faster” series shows a dedication to the game and community that I have not seen before.

Game play is what you would expect from any FPS: point and click. There is somewhat of a learning curve to the load outs and point system but it is intuitive enough to figure it out quickly. Although you can run around all willy-nilly, cooperation and team play is encouraged for the control and conquer of regions. I’ve been in some epic battles where there was easily several hundred players fighting in one area. The community and players in general are great. You can spot a nub fairly quickly… he’s the guy shooting at his own team. The players I’ve had the most fun with are adults and even sound like they may have served.

Each soldier class and faction has its advantages and disadvantages. Weapons, accessories, vehicles, and clothing are fully customizable. Anyone from my generation knows the exhilaration of piloting a vehicle for the first time in Battlefield… this will blow your mind. Drive a tank, fly a plane, call in an air strike from your team mates, and provide transport, etc.

Oh, btw, it’s addictive.
