I have been playing the destiny franchise since Destiny 1's beta and I can say the franchise has grown so much. If you like looter shooters like borderlands than this might scratch that itch, but this is in no means Borderlands it's a game with it's own characters and universe that dose an amazing job at world building. At its heart Destiny 2 is a multiplayer game and to really experience all that it has to offer you will need a group of friends to play with. Luckily if you dont Destiny 2 has one of the best communities for new players. I would highly recommend everyone gives this game a try.
