My only gripe is that Nemesis suffers from just being a faster Mr. X, which will definitely build suspense the first time you play but eventually just becomes a game of avoidance. Hopefully his A.I. becomes improved and plays better in the actual game; my only gripe with RE 2 was Mr. X, and since Nemesis is my favorite villain in any game, i genuinely want him to be scary, not frustrating.

I'm going to start with my score: 9/10

I will then tell you my one major issue with this game; there is not enough variety between A and B scenario. What I mean is that, if you fight a boss in scenario 1, you should not fight the exact same boss in scenario 2, at least not in the exact same way. Or if a puzzle is completed in scenario 1, there should be a different puzzle to complete in scenario 2 that leads to the same result. This normally wouldn't be such a major issue, but considering how well the game does everything else, there is no excuse for how much contradiction there is within the game when it comes to certain events.

Now, finally, I will tell you everything the game does right, which is everything else.

The graphics are absolutely gorgeous and gruesome, which leads to a strange dichotomy when you want to see everything, but then having to cringe as the entrails from a zombie spill out onto the floor in a sickly fashion. You could tell that there was so much love and creativity put into nearly every aspect of the game that even the most empty of rooms feels important and tirelessly crafted.

A feeling of joy clashes with the never ending sense of dread one has when traversing through the updated police station, which takes many cues from the original game, covered in death and viscera. The enemies are all tough as nails, but every single one of them are fair, and once you get used to their patterns, you can skip much of the game without expending much of your ammo.

The controls are incredibly responsive, the soundtrack, though minimal, feels appropriate when used, and the story is, for the most part, well written and acted out wonderfully by the VAs.

Even the biggest division amongst players, Mr. X, is crafted in such a way as to give players a chance to strategically relearn the game in the second half, forcing you to take actions that you normally wouldn't or explore routes that you previously didn't use to avoid his lumbering and imposing figure. But he is not unfair, nor is he a game breaker.

The Free DLC Updated, the Ghost survivors, as well as the extra game modes only further adds content to a game that had a fair amount already, and with rumored talks of another set coming, we can look forward to Capcom building up an already fantastic game into something that will be as legendary as it was the first time around.

Is this game going to innovate the the world of interactive entertainment as we know it? No.
But is this game going to give you a great time with characters that are nearly 30-years old in a new dimension that calls back to the original while introducing new ideas, new animations, and a much smoother gameplay experience? Absolutely.

My fondest memories of playing video games were back in 91-92 when I would co-op the original ToeJam and Earl with my mom as we explored the crazy world these two funky aliens explored. I was even a fan of the sequel, Panic on Funkotron. These two extra-terrestrials have a fond place in my heart.

So, when i saw the Kickstarter for this game years ago, I clicked the $15 tier so fast I forgot I still needed to buy food. Since then, two other games i backed-Mighty No. 9 and Yooka-Laylee-were released, and although technically fine games, they felt far and away underwhelming in what they pitched vs. what was actually offered. No so with this game; they told us it would be a throwback, from the animation and designs to the gameplay itself, and it was. There are elements from the first two games, though the main focus is the exploratory rogue-like "dungeon" crawling of the 1991 Sega original. Unlock the map, get the ship pieces, get off of Earth. It's a simple concept, yet its fully explored in both the fixed-world and the random levels.

I highly recommend this game for fans and the curious alike, but if you're looking for something that will change the medium entirely, then I would still give it a shot just because it's a lot of fun.

We got what we paid for, and I am satisfied. My one gripe is that I wish we could rebind the keys, but it is more of a nitpick than anything else.
