I love the physgun based mechanics, the priority on movement and efficiency, and a extremely rewarding (a little too rewarding) combat system. Nothing will ever replace the beginning dozen hours when the possibilities are completely endless. A mixture of a fun and trending genre with devs who are very active with their community makes for a wonderful love letter to their audience.

Extremely unforgiving, addictively replayable, everything you'd ever want in a colony survival simulation. Countless workshop content and dlc to refresh the palette every single time. Once you get over the simplistic and silly art style for the creatures you'll realize this is one of the most *in depth* colony survival games out there.

THE peak Zombie horde survival simulator. A wonderfully difficult beginning game and a satisfying middle game that always keeps you on your toes.
My only complaint is that there's no real *end game* concepts yet, but I assume that's going to arrive with the addition of the NPCs suggested in build 43.

Countless opportunities make every single round of Balatro completely unique. Absolutely love this game and went to support it on my mobile device as well, hopefully from getting myself too addicted on my pc LOL

What better way to spend my off-hours from being a chef than to play a game as a chef. :)

Definitely still a huge WIP, but I'm really interested to see the direction they go with this game. I understand it is a "spiritual successor" but they're still pulling a lot from the old game into this new one. While I have yet to get super far into the Early Access , I still want to see this game grow. I'm really excited about seeing a new take from the previous sandbox mode.

pros:
  • New biomes and interesting landscapes make the world feel way more "alive" than the previous game. Something about seeing the same rolling rounded hills of the first game was largely a turn off, which they made up for in combat. This game expands on the environment with dangerous flora and different artificial threats that are scattered around the map. Being aware of your surroundings is necessary for survival as I feel much more engaged with the game and resources.

  • New "restrictive" blocks and reactor efficiency makes ship-building way more exciting. Some people hate the change but I absolutely love it. Being able to make monstrous dreadnaughts without much progression was a major pullback for me in the first game. This game, however, makes you aware of each specific block you place and how it functions. Instead of having a huge storage to store every single item you come across like in the first game, you must now physically build storage onto your ship and base to keep track of each item.

  • New "repair" function makes fights more interesting than just blasting away at everything in sight. Since most larger vehicles will have a chance to repair, you'll need to either be stocked with an insane amount of ammo to keep blasting through armor or be tactical about your approach to heavily defended enemies.

  • New graphics are very pretty :D

  • Plenty of new mechanics to keep things spiced up. I haven't dipped too deep into it yet, but I'll likely update my review when I get further in.

cons:
  • Vehicle and enemy variation is pulling from a very small group right now. You'll find maybe 5-10 different types of vehicles in specific biomes. Fights become repeated, and the fighting is unique but gets old when there's no real challenge.

  • AI hasn't seemed too change much, but now that they have a repair ability it becomes a little more like phases. They still run into objects senselessly a lot and get themselves blown up, but it's still decent enough to make fights partially strategic.

  • No real story right now. Making a game and creating a sense of difficulty through limitation should really have a reason to commit to the challenge of exploring and finding new things, not to find a new resource and launch it to space for the 50th time. I'm really hoping to see them add story-driven missions in following updates.

  • AFAIK there is no teleportation or way to transport your base without physically moving every item super far distances. I'm not sure if there's a faster way (flying) or if it was intended to build outposts as you go further into the world, but it feels like I'm leaving things behind a lot. It would be nice to have a set way to either quick travel to another spot or at least access storage from earlier bases in newer outposts.
(This isn't so much a con as a suggestion tho so :d)

Obviously this is all subject to change as the devs work out the complete direction and progression for their game ^^

Absolutely LOVED this game, in every aspect. Something is so captivating about the unique and mysterious aesthetics that no other game has ever captured for me.

Literally the dream game of my youth, shooting robots and bugs in a holy hailfire of chaos and unruly bloodshed. Everything is beautifully crafted around this game.
