The Crew Motorfest is great. Ivory Tower really cooked this time.
Progression is tied to playlists that you can usually do in any order, each one being self-contained.
Due to the game's episodic nature, it feels extremely varied, and that's because it is. Within the time you spend playing you will experience a variety of challenges, driving styles and vehicles. First time you play through a playlist you loan a different vehicle for each event. You will get to feel how it controls, and learn a bit more about it. The best way I can explain it is that every event feels like a Horizon Showcase event from the Forza Horizon games. After you are done with a playlist, you unlock some extra challenges and collectibles related to it, as well as the ability to use any of your cars in the events, which incentivizes replayability.
The difficulty is fully customizable, from AI skill, to turning on and off assists, use of nitro and rewind, and every choice regarding it will give you more rewards at the end of the race. Speaking of the rewind, it's fully seamless, unlike in the Forza games. You can choose exactly how far you want to rewind instead of rewinding in segments.
The driving itself is satisfying. More realistic than The Crew 2, it's closer to Horizon, but it's still more arcadey. It's a very nice balance between realism and game-iness.
You can join with up to 3 other friends to form a crew and partake in playlist events or other free roam activities. The online multiplayer modes consists of Grand Race and Demolition Royale. The former is a race in 3 segments, where you switch between 3 vehicled on the fly during the race, which is against 27 other people. The latter is a battle royale mode in which you use demolition derby cars and monster trucks. You also have Custom Show where you can showcase your car. And finally, you have the weekly summits: challenges that you can do to win rewards and climb up the ranks.
But this isn't all. The game is going to get even better with updates, just like the past The Crew games. And knowing the way they maintained The Crew 2 and the things they have added to this game for now (more playlists and recently a map expansion), I have full faith in Ivory Tower that they will continue to deliver great content to this already great game. The only huge downside is that it's always online, but Ivory Tower did announce they will add an offline mode to both 2 and Motorfest at some point, so that they may avoid the first game's unfortunate fate.
Quick mention, the soundtrack is pretty good.
And finally, if you have ever played The Crew 2, you can transfer your cars to Motorfest for free, no matter the platform you played it on. And you get cross play and cross save between all platforms with Motorfest, too! If you don't have 2, I guess you could download the free trial for The Crew 2, get as many vehicles as you can within that time, and then transfer them to Motorfest. If you don't want to bother, skip straight to Motorfest.
(On an unrelated sidenote, if I had to rank the 3 games I would say: TCM>TC1>TC2, I really like 2 but Motorfest is just so much better)

So as a tl;dr, I recommend the game due to its great variety when it comes to the campaign content and fun multiplayer modes, as well as the fact that it's always expanding and becoming better and better.
Oh and the game has a 5 hour free trial, and you get to transfer your progress to the full game. So you have nothing to lose, and it's a great way to see whether or not you like it!
