The OG is one of the best games I've ever played.
This is just as good if not better.

A really convincing 4X with probably one of the most intuitive and graphically sublime user interfaces in the genre, mixed with a vibrant, distinctively colorful graphics style that many of its contemporaries are lacking. Also includes a solid battle system, a vast array of different cultures, and passionate dev support with frequent updates and patches. High recommendation; the mixed reviews on Steam are unwarranted. Played it a lot on Xbox game pass, now grabbed the game on sale with the DLC's, as should you.

As time goes on, there are fewer and fewer games that keep me this interested and immersed. RE8 is the perfect marriage between RE7 and RE4. It's ridiculously good from start to finish, filled with variety that always works. One of the best games I've played in years.

When I popped in my redeem code that came with my new card and started a save, my expectations were low because of the polarizing reviews.
Little did I know, what lied ahead would be one of the most unique gaming experiences of my life, filled with immersive gameplay, great characters and fantastic visual storytelling. Kojima has pushed the medium forward again.
Is it perfect? Hell no. But my hours put into it are some of the best times I've had with games to date.

About half of the game is great. The other half is a boring slog.

The combat is incredibly dated: floaty, janky, unresponsive and unsatisfying, its difficulty spikes at random parts. The story is hard to follow and not very good: most characters are not built upon enough at all. I didn't enjoy any of the side missions: I did all of them in chapters 1 and 2, but just rushed to the end in the third chapter after so many disappointments.

It's a shame. The Witcher 2 is a very atmospheric game. The art style is fantastic, the mood is gripping, and the graphics are top notch for 2011. Even the music is incredible. But the experience hinders on the frustrating gameplay systems, awful combat, boring and ambiguous quests, sluggish world traversal, and tedious backtracking.

I played this with a lot of prior knowledge of the Witcher series world and to get ready to play The Witcher 3. After 10 hours of the third installment, it's already immediately spectacular, and what this game should've been. For comparison, I really enjoyed Mass Effect 1, so it's not like I detest older RPGs. Still, if you can look past Witcher 2's flaws there's definitely value to be found here. It's a very ambitious game, but the developers lacked the time, management and resources to make it work. Fortunately those were provided for the next game in the series.

5/10

My favourite JRPG, finally salvaged from being a Playstation 2 exclusive. The story is among the greatest in gaming. Together with the finely tuned turn-based gameplay and the satisfying sphere grid progression system, it holds up as one of the most polished Square titles.

In the remake, you can change between the newly arranged and original
soundtrack by Nobuo Uematsu at any time, and the graphics look amazing for a game from 2002.

You know it's a good game when you're debating with yourself whether or not you should pause the game even after 100 hours.

One of the best feeling games I've ever played: the gameplay is a finely tuned dance of precision. I haven't been so in love with a game since I was a little kid. The story is also pretty good, but definitely not on the usual Metal Gear standards.

I got 25 hours out of this game. Kojima states that MGSV:TPP will be 200x larger than this. That means I'll get 5000 hours out of TPP.

Pretty good.
