This game had a really, really rough launch. Game-breaking bugs, followed by hotfixes that caused even more bugs, saw the player population plummet by something like 70% in the first few months.

I revisited this game recently when I heard about Aeternum/the console release, because a close friend expressed an interest in giving the game a shot, and honestly it's night and day. The combat is satisfying and responsive, the story (while certainly no best-seller) is solid and engaging, and there's a wide variety of trade skills for the crafters and gatherers out there (guilty).

Solid 8/10 from me.

Probably one of the most satisfying 3rd person shooters I've ever played, and absolutely the best written free to play game I've played. The story started pretty basic but has quickly become incredibly engaging. Definitely give this game a shot if you haven't already.

UPDATE 07/11/2024: So, after more than a year of forgetting that this game existed, I stumbled across a Reddit post by someone claiming to have essentially taken over development of it. I figured I'd give it another shot, and I'm pretty darn glad I did. The few things I liked about my previous attempt continue to shine through with it's similarities to OSRS and Tibia, and the variety of content available looks like it's gonna keep me entertained for awhile yet. The Discord is very active, with devs/staff members responding within minutes.

Honestly, I managed to play for roughly twenty minutes before the server issues kicked me out. It does very much feel like Runescape in it's playstyle so far, with a dab of Tibia thrown in. I think if it were legitimately Free to Play I might be a little more forgiving, but charging $10 a month for what is ultimately a sub-par entry into the MMO field seems excessive.

I admit, I went into this game with exceptionally low expectations. A "roguelike MMO" marked as a free-to-play? Hah.

I've never been happier to be wrong. Between the "ringed" approach to world difficulty, the tiered crafting, learning recipes by dismantling items you find... This game scratches multiple itches that an MMO junkie like me has, while still managing to be a fairly entertaining roguelike to pass the time with. I can see myself sinking many, many more hours into this game, so much so that I purchased the full access within two hours of play.

Probably some of the most entertaining, frustrating fun I've ever had with friends. ♥♥♥♥ cones.
