It's classic Rainbow Six, for good and ill. Your team still vacillates between godly aimhacking and getting slaughtered while they get hung up on doorways. I think the main campaign kinda sucks - they pad with re-used maps and the last few levels are a big slog with lots of snipers. The expansions, on the other hand, are excellent. If you liked the first two R6 games, you'll love this, but don't go in expecting any big improvements beyond the graphics.

Fantastic, the expansions are definitely more interesting than anything they did in the sequels.

Retro Gamer magazine ran a poll of favorite Quake games - Quake 4 came in with exactly 0 votes lmao. It's not a bad game if you can get it for a few bucks and want more of the Doom 3 engine vibe, it's a mindless good time.

Dodged a bullet by disabling updates since I knew Bethesda would be Bethesda. I’m sick of Bethesda taking their modders for granted - it didn’t occur to them to help the script extension guys out by providing them with details ahead of time? They couldn’t have made a separate Steam entry, or provide a beta switch?

If you liked the base game, you'll like this. Some very fun level design, including one that's a homage to Blood. Music is, again, full of bangers. My only major complaint is that secret hunting has become a major chore because the levels are so much bigger, and some of them have points of no return where you can't backtrack. They really could have cut the vehicle sections in half with no detriment to the game.

It's a great time in co-op - if you've got a squad of buddies, it's a 10/10 certified hood classic.
If you're playing solo with the AI, it's more mixed sadly.
In many ways it's inferior to SWAT 4 - in nearly 20 years, there apparently has been little advancement in the field of sophisticated "don't stand still in the doorway as tangos blast you" algorithms. They still ignore orders, they still have strange notions of what qualifies as a room, and they love nothing more than screwing up your carefully-crafted synchronized breach-and-clears. One of them scuffed a less-than-lethal run by pulling his sidearm and executing a guy who I was flanking.
The other issue is, even SWAT 4 looks better. I'm not a graphics snob by any means, but this game looks awful - at max settings, there's this horrible smudgy, grainy, hazy look to everything that makes seeing detail at a distance impossible. It becomes really bad when you're trading shots with someone in cover. I've been tweaking the INIs with marginal improvement. Random art assets also look awful, as if they were placeholders. The game still feels very unpolished - there's still a bug in the tutorial where you can't issue clear orders to your team that's been there since December.
In summary, I'd get it on sale, or if you've got buddies to do co-op with - otherwise you're buying into a very rough-around-the-edges product,.
