*I personally don't enjoy it in its current state due to personal preferences, which might not matter to you, a new player*

If you play it for its PvP RTS/MOBA aspects with Transformers-like airplane robots, you might actually enjoy the game. Graphics are nice, sounds are good, soundtrack is ok. I spent about 60 bucks in skins and cosmetics in this game. It is not exactly p2w, but you need a bit of grind to get new units.

You essentially control an airplane, create units that can automatically attack the enemy player or follow instructions such as defend, hold ground, etc, and while in airplane mode, you can carry the units you created around and place them. You get income every second or by destroying stuff, and you can also change into a Transformer-like ground Robot with weapons that are usually much stronger than in airplane mode. You also have abilities as in a Moba and you can level them up, and focus on "builds", but the options are quite limited but athere are ultimates. I wish there were talent trees as in Dota to improve these more.

It has 1v1, 2v2 ranked and custom 3v3 modes. One of the huge let downs for me is that the game never got bigger than that, even though the maps were quite big, and I had more than 3 friends who wanted to play with me, and we all got diamonds and stuff, but the only mode we could play together because we didn't feel like gathering us 6 and do a 3v3 was the Co-Op vs Wave Defence, which was removed from the game and went into a different, new standalone game.

I just dislike it now because of what happened to the division of both pve and pvp modes, and now Strike is only PvP focused and Wastelands is the PvE. That was a change that I, personally, didn't like and wasn't expecting and the way Prime once was said that Prime owners would get the coop mode, but that didn't happen.

This game also had potential for multiple extra modes, maybe have added a unique more moba focused without much of the RTS or none of the unit creating at all, all of them automatically generated, or a Royale mode with varying buffs of certain aspects of the AirMech itself. Or maybe something like CTF, something to spice up the very, very aged formula. The core game is great, don't get me wrong, but I wish it had been expanded, because this feels like it could be a whole new Dota 2 Arcade mode with its own twists.

Many Years ago I was pumped up about Airmechand it and Warframe were contesting for the best indie game of the year (at that time), and I got mad that Warframe won! I now have over 1,5k hours of Warframe, and and this one still didn't get over 250+ I did quit Warframe, though.

HOWEVER, like I said, the game has its issues FOR ME. For YOU, A NEW PLAYER, it might actually be a good experience because it is something very different and interesting to play, but you need to buy units, there doesn't seem to be redeem codes for new players around anymore, and the kinda small community makes PvP a bit tough for new or returning people who got rusty, but again, since the game is free, it might be worth the try and you might enjoy it! I know I did when I started.
To me, I kinda quit, to you, might be your new hit.
