I can't realistically recommend Starfield, as it currently is, to anyone. Not for that asking price.

To begin, I love Bethesda games and the usual jank they come with. I look forward to it. It makes them frustrating but lively, and I love the modding scene that they usually foster. I bought Skyrim when it first came out on PS3, then bought it again on PC when I got a good enough PC to run it. In total I think I have over 2000 hours on Skyrim and I still play it today. That game released as a decently functional hot mess but it was a good hot mess. The Elder Scrolls has been my favorite game series since I first picked up Skyrim. I went back and played Morrowind and Oblivion. (The others I'd rather read about or listen to video essays on they are a lil too old school for me). I played the fallout series and loved them. Except of course for 76 but we don't talk about that one. That became my 2nd favorite game series.

I contemplated for a long time whether to get Starfield because it rang a few of my alarm bells but I caved when it was around $56 with a 20% off sale. I have put about 12 hours into it so far over the past couple days and it's just not... ready. It feels like I'm eating a pie without baking it properly. The gameplay itself is... fine.

Gunplay is a little of an afterthought but it's not horrible and I've been slow burning the game so I don't have any good weapons, and haven't modified anything as yet.

The dialogue is not bad but some characters can sound a little out of place. There's a squiggly line to balance characters overacting and underacting and it feels like sometimes it goes a little on the under part and it sounds like highschool theater practice. I've never really experienced that with a Bethesda product before because I've always known them to have excellent sound work. Next in that field is the music. It sounds... spacey, but nothing feels fleshed out. It sounds like AI generated background music. At least that's what I've experienced so far. I haven't heard anything that gets me going like the Skyrim soundtrack which I absolutely adore and listen to often. I could probably turn off the Starfield soundtrack and not miss a thing, except being able to hear the characters better. There's nothing like Awake, Secunda, Ancient Stones, and other bangers. There's not really anything interesting there. I understand that it might be like comparing apples to oranges because fantasy setting music is and should be a lot different from space exploration epic music. Either way, I don't think that it really does the job for me.

Ships feel like a bit of a gimme that was wasted. It's just fast travelling with extra steps and cutscenes in between. There's no real flavor or interesting thing to do with them so far. I feel like traversal in this world feel boring and uneventful. That is with my limited experience of the system so far so take that with a grain of salt.

On my final point, I bought Starfield about 2 months after release, after a major update. When I loaded up the game I spent an hour messing with my Graphics settings because my game was stuttering and dropping FPS whenever I moved my mouse. This stutter was constant no matter what I do. It made my eyes hurt. I googled trying to find a solution to this problem or what was causing it only to find out that it's just been like that since release and people have found workarounds to mitigate (not fix) it. I tried a few of those solutions and have managed to get it down to a playable degree, which is the only way that I have put 10 hours into it. I still don't understand what causes it but I also don't think that I have ever paid this much for nausea before. I will continue playing because I do think that there's something here but honestly, this is the first Bethesda game that I've ever wanted to refund after an hour. I didn't really expect them to deliver the world but this is... not very good. Not so bad, but not good.

I keep leaving but it keeps pulling me back. Warframe is a great game, gameplay is great, the visuals are stunning and updates are often. The thing that ruins it for me is it being free-to-play. Instead of a premium game at a premium price Warframe is a premium game by all means but offered as free. You just have to submit yourself to either spend money or wait days for anything. Building a warframe takes: 12 hrs for each part, you have to build 3( they can be built simultaneously), and a whopping 3 days to finish the warframe after building the parts to it. That is not counting fact that a lot of warframes take the parts of other warframes to build so an item that takes 12 hrs to build would then take 24 because you have to build an item that it requires. But, I digress, the game is fun, challenging, beautiful and the lore is encapturing. Also, I have noticed a trend with my Warframe (addiction?) gameplay. I would download it, play for 2 weeks, leave an item to build (usually a warframe) forget about the game, and eventually uninstall it. 2 Months later rinse and repeat. Its fun though, do give it a try if your interested.

It is really fun, the story is great and it has a big world to explore. The story had me chopping onions at a certain point.
