This is Bioware at its best. The story is good, the world is beautiful, the characters are interesting and have a lot of things to say, both to my character and each other. Combat is fun and fast paced. I'm having much fun.

I'm about 4.5 hours into this game, and I'm having so much fun. The update makes the interface so much more responsive and easy to use than I remember the original being. The graphics are excellent, with outstanding atmospheres. The sound design is great. It's so creepy, especially with a headset. I have my puzzles set to medium-standard and find them to be just challenging enough without hanging me up unduly trying to solve them. Likewise, combat at medium is challenging but not debilitating.

The game opens with a notice that it's best played with a controller, but I tried my controller and then returned to mouse and keyboard, which is my usual way of gaming. I don't see any difference between the two options. Playing with a mouse/keyboard is just fine, with a familiar control scheme and the few intro tutorial type instructions in PC/mouse notation.

Early Access Review
This game is a lot of fun. In addition to the usual survival activities, such as building, crafting, and gathering, there are dungeon-type ruins to explore and conquer. The realm card system allows a wide variety of different realms to explore, which can be further tailored to your tastes with cards that change the flavor of the realm. NPCs offer quests and color, and you can recruit a helper who is quirky, but useful in combat. Play is solo or co-op, and realms can be set to private or public. The art is beautiful. There's quite a bit of lore. Overall, this game is addicting, and quite well functioning for an early access game on day one.

This game is peaceful and fun in some respects, frustrating in others. I like the various activities, such as farming and fishing. Combat is pretty smooth. I don't like how constrained I feel by the day/night system, where I can't do anything except sleep in the night. It's a challenge to get to places quests instruct me to go, because the daylight and early evening hours go by so quickly, and I have to keep teleporting home to sleep. Then the next day, I spend most of the day journeying back to where I left off and forging forward a few hundred more feet. Maybe that's working as intended, but I'm more used to a game where I can carry on day and night.

I find the controls slightly frustrating. Sometimes it's right click, sometimes left click, sometimes E and Q or C and Z and sometimes it's escape first. In some cases I have to move from keyboard to mouse to keyboard to get through a menu. I wish they would have picked one or two things and stuck with them.

This game seems really unfinished. My first negative point was when ALL the instructions and tooltips were for a controller, when I had clearly downloaded a PC game. I couldn't find any option to select mouse/keyboard controls, but was able to use them by guessing what buttons to use. My second negative point was when I accidentally selected a button that turned me into a 100% bot. I didn't need to do anything. My toon just ran around killing everything by herself. I think I could have left, gone out to dinner, and returned with a high level character.

There were far too many cutscenes during which I couldn't do anything. I felt like most of the tutorial just involved me watching other people fight. The graphics aren't great. After the intro, to get with my party, I had to guess at an unintuitive process to join the same instance as my party member. The community is pretty unfriendly, as no one would answer a question about how to accomplish this. It's hard to know why the comments here are "mostly positive," as uninstalled it ten minutes after getting past the intro, and I'm pretty sure I wouldn't even play another game by the same company.

Best Free to Play game ever. Anything you can buy, you can also earn with reasonable efforts. While there's always an opportunity to pay real money, you never HAVE to pay to enjoy this game or to get ahead. (I've bought a bunch of stuff over time, just because I want to support the great dev team.) There's constant new content. Gameplay is fun. You can play for hours or jump in, do a quick mission, and jump out, as you prefer.

Beautiful, open world RPG with seemingly endless things to do.
