As an old tabletop vet I've played every Battletech game so far - and this one is the worst.

Graphics: Looks like at least 10 years old, yet i get rough framedrops on a 6700XT. How is it even possible to make unreal engine perform this bad? Also no cutscenes at all.

Sound: The music is god awful, sounds like my first recordings in the 90s, midi drums and bad metal guitar riffs. The sound fx lack impact, you don't "feel" like moving in a giant mech blasting heavy weapons. Voice acting is just as bad, full of cliche accents and dumb lines. Trying too hard to sound badass you'll end up sounding like a douche.

AI: Just completely bugged. Your teammates get stuck, demolish bases they are supposed to protect, attackers don't find their way so you can't finish missions and have to restart.

No replayability or endgame content after the campaign. There are procedurally generated missions, but by that time you've already seen everything many times and there is nothing to gain anymore.

Some of these issues can be improved with mods and DLCs apparently, which just adds to the feel that this game is an incomplete cash grab. They even promote one of the DLC's for including "free" QOL changes, so you're supposed to pay 15€ for what should be a patch.

If you're a die hard Battletech fan like me wait for a sale and get the Jumpship Edition, this should be closer to an actual finished game...

A fun little nitpick to finish this: You will probably not get one of the achievements because of a bug they actually patched INTO the game and never bothered to fix it after.

No idea why this has so many positive reviews.
I might be too old, but I'm having a hard time identifying with a whiny nutcase looking for her boyfriend.
Maybe it could have worked with an actual personality, but she's really just whining and moaning the whole game bare any other facets.
But, more important, the game itself just sucks really hard. Took me just 7ish hours to finish and still felt like eternity. Just about half of that time you're actually playing (solving riddles, fighting), the other half you're walking around at a terribly slow pace or listening to lore. You can't even jump, further limiting the leveldesign. I didn't explore anything due to the slow speed, still didn't miss alot.
The fighting itself is very shallow and has only few different enemies, not that these few make much of a difference anyway.

On the plus side, sound and graphic design is great, but that won't cut it for me.

Seeing that only a third of the players make it halfway through this already extremely short game it seems a lot of people don't like it either.

It's fun for a while but once you figure out the only 2,3 weapons worth getting it becomes stale very quick. there's not much point in having all these mech designs when you use the same loadout for everyone anyways.
the very limited amount of maps doesn't help either.

i give it a thumbs up because a have killed a lot of time with it, being nostalgic, but i haven't even touched it after the heavy metal update, even tho i payed for it.

can't buy english version in germany, can't switch language.
can't refund cause i own the game for too long.
wasted money.

i don't even mind the blood censorship, but there are in fact people living in germany who don't speak the language... actually bought the game twice already (another time in a store) and still can't play it. disgusting.

after the terribly buggy, laggy and nighttime only 2015 nfs ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, this one is quite fun again.
has some balancing issues in the single player campaign tho, you get almost unlimited money and can just overtune your cars for easy wins.

If you had friends, the splitscreen multiplayer would be a blast!

So this was a weird one...
Made by Obsidian, creators of classics like KOTOR 2, Neverwinter Nights 2 and Fallout NV is expected an epic RPG like those or something to scratch my Mass Effect itch. And the first impression is amazing! Beautiful graphics and loads of planets to explore.

Ye, I'm gonna stop you right there. Half the planets you see from your travel hub are DLC content.
There are a few smaller areas to explore and really only one bigger planet that looks all the same throughout.

And this will be an ongoing theme in this review. The game SEEMS to have a lot of content but hardly any of it matters. If your aim is halfway decent you don't need any of the RPG elements in this game and you can play it as a mediocre shooter and just walk off navpoints.

There are loads of customization options for weapons and armors, but none of it really matters. Your companions have active combat skills but you never really need to use them plus they interrupt the actual action. Theres a plethora of weapons but most of them are useless or at least subpar. Armor? Doesn't matter. Most of the skills you can spec you'll never need. Most of the perks don't make a noticable difference.
Spec 1 conversation skill to make your life easier, some lockpicking and hacking and you're good to go.
Add a weapon of choice but stay away from handguns - no idea why they are even in this game, they offer nothing that the bigger guns won't do better.

Then there's sh*tloads of stuff to loot, but same here, you won't need most of it. There isn't much to buy that you won't find 100 times over exploring anyway.
There's a reputation system... but the only thing you get for sidemissions are some minor shopping options.
You get the drift.

Then there's the actual roleplaying part. Some of the missions were fun, but there's also a lot of fetch quests or stupid walking navpoints quests - mixed bag.

Most of your companions lack a likeable or even interesting personality and so do the NPCs. I didn't connect with any of the drama in this game.

Don't be fooled by my playtime, the main story questline is rather short and I spent a lot of time exploring every nook and minmaxing equipment, not that it made a difference. Half of the playtime felt like a drag.

The game's style is great and so is the leveldesign, but it's just too easy (i played on hard difficulty btw.) and most of what you do has no impact at all.

Stay away, this is a far cry from earlier Obsidian games.
