I used to work in a card game shop, why the hell am I now willingly doing it free?

No, wait, why am I about to PAY to do it?!

Edit: I continued to play so I could try more characters and see if there really is any change to the feel, but after fighting bosses that use the exact same mechanic of shield balls over and over and over, all those thoughts I had in my review are basically solidified.

Every character except Bunny, feels incredibly anemic in terms of gameplay compared to something like even the basic frames in warframe, who feel genuinely powerful, the characters in this game really feel lackluster over all.

I spent no money and you shouldn't either, the game has good foundations but not enough to compete even on a fundamental level with Warframe or Destiny 2.

----------------------------------

TLDR: It's not an terrible game, it's a pretty game that only has depth in mechanics and ideas it's taken from other games in the genre, without as much variety or satisfaction in the execution of those mechanics.

The extensive cash shop on launch is the most telling sign of Nexon just doing what they're best at, making mmo's that have pretty graphics and the bare minimum everywhere else but the cash shop.

I can't recommend it over it's competitors at all really, but if you do decide to play, DO NOT GIVE THEM MONEY.

------------------------------------------------------

Honestly I didn't hate the game, but everything about it that I liked was just simply because it was outright copied (no not just similar, it's identical) from other games in terms of function.

Combat is fine, but enemy variety (especially bosses) is severly lacking so far, some characters have incredibly lackluster kits in terms of how satisfying they are and after the 4th boss in a row that used the exact same shield drone mechanic, it became quite clear that they cared more about visuals than anything else really.

It says alot that the game has launched with a ton of skins, limited edition bundles and sets, most of which reach very high prices and are either just goofy fortnite-esque outfits like a dinosaur onesie, or its the predictable swimsuits and maid outfits for the female characters.

It's not a bad game, but I don't see any reason to choose it over other games in the genre right now because there is nothing unique that the game offers in terms of gameplay, story or visuals, it feels a bit too much like "What if you could play Destiny in third person as a Korean super model in a mini skirt" it's pretty, but feels wholly unoriginal and all it's depth comes from systems and ideas it's taken from other places.

I was frustrated when I first started this dlc, I thought something felt wrong and was kinda starting to find it frustrating.

After so many hours of playing the base game, 5 different characters, 1 of them being on NG+8 and having played everything from busted builds to stupid meme builds, I felt like the dlc was way beyond over tuned.

It wasn't until I started to look back at how I played on release of ER that I realized why I played the way I did back then, on my first playthrough I knew nothing and I took precautions to make up for that, I didn't know every boss inside out, I didn't know the limits of myself or the enemies.

I didn't expect to win all the time and I needed time to learn what to do, so I used defensive talismans, I used a shield, I used rot, poison, magic and sometimes I had no issue summoning ashes or npcs, so it wasn't until I knew the game that I started doing builds wearing almost no armor, opting for higher risk/higher reward tactics.

The DLC is 90% amazing, 10% a little frustrating, so don't ruin it by going into expecting to beat everything like you do in the base game after so many years, you're basically starting elden ring again and it's pretty worth it.

Nuts the amount of content and polish this game has, doesn't matter if you like vtubers or not, this is more value than most indie games and it doesn't cost a penny.

Even if it cost the same as any other 'reverse bullet hell' on the market, it would highly likely still be more than worth it.

A beautiful re-imagining of the original game that tows the line between enough of the classic details that old school fans will be able to use their knowledge and feel that nostalgia, whilst also having some of that prior information used to play with their expectations in certain places and story beats.

For new players its the definitive way to see this story and gameplay. CAPCOM made the right choice bringing this back in house so they could make sure it was done right.

Running it on a 3090 and only minimal frame drops in some places, which only occurred if I attempted to ignore enemies and run through an area, causing the game to spawn every enemy in the area all at once.

Anything I could say negatively about the whole experience would be either preference or nitpick.

Exactly what I want from these kinds of games, tons of choice and experimentation is incentivised thanks to systems that allow free respeccing and class changing for units as well as capturing new units.

Spritework in battle is pretty decent, just wish the criticals had actual special animations for every unit as it gives a nice reason to watch combat animations playout with that chance for a cool one, but it's not anything that's detrimental in a significant way.

Character artwork and maps are old style fire emblem with a little more western art style mixed in, the character sprites out of combat are a bit "RPG Maker" but it's not a huge thing.

If you look at the screen shots and think "That looks like that game that I like" then you can't really go wrong with picking this up, especially at this price.

A fun idea, fun characters (mostly), but the non-existent player base means the game is impossible to balance correctly as every match is just 2-3 high level players farming everyone else.

Impossible to learn efficiently and the games balance is decided from such unreliable data (again because of the playerbase) that it's basically not worth trying to improve or even look up reliable data.

Seems clear the dev's have no faith in the project and took the crypto currency because they get paid and the investor gets more crypto currency. Only people not being thought about are the players.

Play it if you want, but do not under any circumstance, give any money to these people.

This game has some real love and care put into it, I genuinely feel bad for Casper and everyone who worked on it because I REALLY want to like and play this game, there is such a good feeling of nostalgia, a decent gameplay incentive in whether or not you should fight enemies or avoid them because using your ammo could lead to more upgrades IF you execute the fight successfully.

The visual style is fun and obviously very Resident evil 1, but there is enough uniqueness here to feel different and not like it was totally copied.

I appreciate the effort, I really do, but this is why every time someone complains and says the 'old days' and 'tank controls' were better, I have to wonder what the strength of their rose tinted glasses are because this is what you get when you desperately cling to "AW MAN GAMES WERE SO MUCH BETTER BACK THEN, THEY NEVER NEEDED TO CHANGE".

I get it, I like the old resident evil games too, but even they weren't afraid to innovate with automatic targeting, keybinding changes, etc. and often for good reason, because having to fight the controls is not what players enjoy, fighting the enemies is. There is many reasons we have better movement systems in games today, if you're arguing that not being able to control your character correctly is what makes a game scary, I don't know what to say to you other than that's your -very- overly nostalgic opinion.

There is good reason to buy this game, genuinely there is, but unless you're simply someone who does nothing but play fixed-camera, tank controls games on your PS1 still and shuns other games, I can't recommend it to you because in a game where enemies chase you down and are often faster than you, it's not only a pain to try and find a moment to aim at them without exploiting the AI on furniture or walls, but then the hit boxes are often so odd, that a Blunderbuss can miss a target that you're pointing at from point blank range, which can quite literally soft lock you in a game like this if you run out of ammo because every now and then you have to sink triple the amount of ammo into killing an enemy than you normally would, nevermind the damage you take in the process.

Add auto aim, add controller support for more types of controller and fix the keybind system. If these things make the game suddenly too easy, work around that with a few more enemies present or something, because in it's current state combat feels like such a chore just to point a weapon at an enemy and shoot it.

---------

-Also, someone has made a small mod to turn off the retro filter and it allows you to actually see the models, this not only makes the game look nicer, but it also allows for easier aiming because you can see exactly where your gun is pointed, still though, it doesn't avoid the situations entirely where you just miss for no reason.-
