Gothic is often mentioned alongside fantasy classics like Elder Scrolls or Dragon Age, so I decided to give it a try. After some fixes (use “Spine” for easy patching), I launched the game. The intro scene sets up a unique story, where you play as a convict thrown into a work camp with other convicts who constantly bully you, which is honestly refreshing and fun. The journey from this lowly status to hero is incredibly rewarding, with excellent in-game progression that makes you feel stronger and more skilled after each chapter.

At first, even simple tasks like picking up a torch and stowing it away were difficult. The controls were bizarre, requiring combinations of keys for basic actions. It took me some time to adapt, but the controls made sense once I realized they came from a time before modern standards. The controls are all "immersive." For example, to lift something up from the ground, you use Ctrl + Up (or W) to pick it up. To drop an item, it’s Ctrl + Down (or S).

Once you adjust, Gothic becomes a fantastic RPG. Early enemies like wolves are tough, but by the end, you master the game and its world. The combat, though odd at first, becomes engaging, with each attack direction mapped to a key. As your character improves, weapon handling becomes more fluid. The game is deeply immersive, filled with impressive details and surprising spell variety, from elemental magic to animal transformation and summoning creatures.

As with all older games, make sure to save often! Sometimes you get stuck, and your only option is to reload. But with F5 for quick saving, it's not a hassle. Also, remember to make multiple save files every now and then.

Even in 2024, Gothic is a must-play. With a bit of patience to set it up and learn the controls, it delivers an wonderful adventure!

It's hard to put into words how much I love this game. The atmosphere, the characters, the dialogues, the humor, the completely unhinged, uncensored nature... Bloodlines is a truly special game. Yes, the gameplay hasn't aged particularly well; even back then, it was clunky. But if you can look past that, you'll find pure gold in this game. There’s no other game quite like it.

Make sure to install Wesp5's fan patch for a significantly better gaming experience.

I'll split the review into two parts since this game actually includes two games.

First Game: 999

What a story, very thrilling until the end! The gameplay is, of course, a visual novel. If you like games like Danganronpa or other Mystery Novels, then give Zero Escape a chance. It focuses on numbers and puzzles – none too difficult, everything is quite solvable and enjoyable.

To fully understand and experience the story, you have to play through the game multiple times in different ways. Unfortunately, certain dialogues overlap (there is a speed forward "skip" button. It stops when you have new dialog, so you won't miss anything by accident) and puzzles (not skippable). Having to solve the same puzzles multiple times for different paths was a bit tedious. However, it was totally worth it for the story.

There’s not much more to say about the game without spoiling it. A great console port in my opinion, and an easy recommendation when on sale, especially since it includes two games.

Second Game: VLR

At first, I was worried that the second game might be a bit more predictable since I already knew the major plot twist from the first game—the gimmick that defines the series. But wow, I was completely wrong. The story was gripping from start to finish once again. What was particularly great was that there was more interaction with the characters compared to the first game. The gameplay was also much better, more polished. To discover everything, you have to play through multiple paths, but this time there were no repeated puzzle rooms, which was a bit tedious in the first part. The game was also significantly longer than the first one, but never boring, always varied enough. I can't go into more detail as everything could be a spoiler.

All in all, Zero Escape is highly recommended. Top-tier visual novels!

Fable is truly one of my all-time favorite games. I have countless fond memories of it, and it’s hard to put into words just how much this epic journey, infused with lots of humor, means to me. Yes, the game has aged, and the gameplay might seem simple by today’s standards, but there’s a timeless charm, care, and attention to detail that make this game nothing short of a masterpiece in my eyes. It's an undeniable classic that I’ll always love.

Dragon Age: Origins is the "Lord of the Rings" of fantasy games. An epic adventure, much like the stories you know from fantasy books. Great characters, solid gameplay (though a bit dated now), and a lot of replayability value. The replayability comes mostly from the many different branching choices in-game, which actually matter and impact the story. Plenty of game hours for a small price. Especially during a sale, it's an absolute must if you're even remotely into fantasy.

HOWEVER: This Steam version doesn't work immediately after installation. A 4GB RAM patch is required due to memory leaks, which cause the game to crash frequently. There are YouTube videos and simple guides on how to fix this, and it only takes a few minutes.

Additionally, the DLCs are not activated by default; you need to run two .exe files in the game folder to enable them, just as a heads-up.

Aside from these two issues, this game is a true masterpiece. The DLCs are hit or miss, but the base game, Origins, is exceptional. A must-play!

Everything after the first Dragon Age Game is unfortunately bad, so I'd stay away from it. There's only one Dragon Age game and it's this one, no matter what anyone says. :)

Wow, what a game! Make sure you’ve played the first Ori game before playing this one.

It’s probably one of the most beautiful games I’ve ever played — pure eye candy! Compared to the first game, which focused primarily on movement, this one goes deeper into combat (in addition to movement, of course), offering a variety of weapons and abilities, along with some fun boss fights.

The levels are non-linear, meaning you can tackle them in any order you prefer. It’s not one of the most challenging games, just like the first Ori game, except when it comes to your feels!
The game delivers a great story and a continuation of the first game, with a perfect ending for the series.
You can’t ask for more, highly recommended!

Stunning art direction, great levels and dungeons. Most importantly, very smooth movement and gameplay. One of the better Metroidvanias out there!

Make sure to play the Definitive Edition instead of this one. New abilities and other improvements make the Definitive Edition the far superior version to play.

A Metroidvania with stunning hand-painted visuals and a great soundtrack. The game is easier than some others in the genre, but sometimes that's exactly what one needs! Zelda-like temples and well-thought-out levels with secrets are all there. The movement is smooth, and the more abilities you unlock, the more fun the game becomes. Rushing through levels and using many different abilities is a blast. The story, told with little dialogue and emotional music, is simple but effective. Very heartwarming. Highly recommended for its art and enjoyable gameplay.

For the best experience, use the Dead Space MouseFix. If you get stuck somewhere due to a bug, try turning V-Sync on or off and playing at the correct Hz setting, as some events are tied to the framerate. Besides that, and despite being released in 2008, Dead Space is still fantastic. It may have a few rough spots, but it offers everything you could want: an amazing atmosphere, a great story, unique mechanics, thrilling moments, enjoyable shooting, and a variety of weapons that offer replayability. It's truly a timeless classic and a must-play in my opinion.

A bizarre game for bizarre people. Walking around and finding interesting things in weird worlds is the core element of this game. It's a piece of art from an older gaming era.
