Even before my friend handed me the controller, I was in love. The visuals. The audio. The adventure.
Then, I started playing it. At first, I was overwhelmed. So many things to learn. To do. To discover. But as I learned, I found that there was more to learn. I was hooked.
And then, I tried it with VR. It was as if another dimension was opened to me. A world that I had thought I already knew turned out to have only been a glimpse, and now I was thrust into it.
While there is some improvement required, that is true of the vast majority of games.
Even now, I find more things that capture my interest. My imagination. My soul.

Oooh boy where to begin.
1. Fun challenge.

3. So many characters and weapons and items that this game has effectively infinite replayability

Whenever I play this game, I imagine the narrator from Journey to the Microcosmos narrating my actions.

"This devious ciliate forms spinning colonies, which excrete glucose and ammonia to entice their unwitting prey into their maws. While you might consider being on the end to be rather fun, zipping around so much faster than you'd normally be able to, you miiiight want to reconsider. As you can see, this one is falling apart after trying to eat a Spikius Murderus. It didn't go well for either of them."

This game is utterly marvelous for a free game. Even if you were to rank it among games with a price tag attached, this game would be way up there in quality and fun.
As soon as you enter the game, the immersion into the story begins. A loan, a ship, and an old man who serves as the (heavily off-rails) tutorial guide. You'll meet several alien species, from the warlike Korath to the highly enigmatic Pug to the peaceful members of the Coalition.
The galaxy is dangerous, but you'll brave challenges like pirates, corporate mercenaries, and the terrors known only as the Alphas.
Space battles can range from rather idiotic pirates being blown up in a matter of seconds, to a full-out war between two rival factions with tens or even hundreds of ships in the fray.
Ships can range from the humble Star Barge to hulking behemoths like the Bactrian or even Korath Worldships.
And for the love of all things holy, DO NOT ANGER THE DRAK!

All in all, 10/10 game

Spawned at a station near a planet.
Decided to experiment with gravity.
When I figured out where the gravity started, I decided to try a gravity assist.
Crashed into my station so hard it exploded.
10/10, would TK again.

The fact that this game is good is an understatement to rival that of saying the universe is big.

This game has given me many a challenge, many a stunning victory, and many a dismal defeat, all the while, writing its own story. The randomness in the colonist-made artwork has lead to many laughs as I put a statue of a vomiting doctor in the hospital, or equipped a colonist with a weapon that has artwork of another colonist tending to the wounded (who, by the way, made a full recovery, adding to the irony).

Perhaps it's the fact that even hunting a squirrel can lead to nasty injuries, or the fact that a psychic ship can cause your pets to brutally murder their bonded owners, or even the fact that you can train animals that explode on death to charge recklessly at your enemies and ultimately die, making the raiders flee, (while also causing your colonists to enter a frenzy trying to put out the resultant fire that threatens to burn down your 90% wooden colony) that makes me love the game. Perhaps it's the space western theme. Perhaps it's the options for not only difficulty, but also how the game progresses. Perhaps it's even all of these factors that make it such a wonderful game.

All I can say is this: Are you ready for everything this inhospitable world has to throw at you?
