I can't recommend this game.

The graphics are beautiful, the voice actors are good, but otherwise... this game should've been a short novel, movie/tv-series or an audiobook instead.
First of all, this is not really much of a "game". It's a walking simulator with a bare minimum of game mechanics. You jump over a rock or climb a rope from time to time. Most of this game is just mindless walking and getting spammed with voice commentary on your walkie-talkie whether you want it or not (I tried to ignore the radio woman as best as I could).

The story is interesting though and not at all what it first seems like.
And... your answers don't matter. The game gives you the same ending either way. You can't uncover... something, even if you pick... the signs... early enough.
The game designers can't design or animate humans so you are just stuck with a bunch of characters that you will never actually see or really interact with in a meaningful way.

It took me 4.6 hours to complete the game while I paid 2 € or something like that. I am... kinda fine with that.
The real value of the game shows itself after finishing the story and watching some videos about what the ending means etc. - the prologue of the main character is completely useless and unnecessary though.
Unfortunately for me, I saw the ending coming like it did 3 hours before it happened so it didn't surprise me.

In the end, this game is just a sad story with a beautiful landscape and ends that you can't tie up. It lacks the most essential part of a game: Making meaningful choices. So overall it's a frustrating experience.

I asked for a refund after 45 minutes of gameplay, because the problems/bugs were too obvious. This is the first and only game I have refunded within 1 hour in my 10+ years of having Steam.

The demo for this game was very promising. A randomized/roguelite tactical overhead shooter? Sign me up!

Unfortunately, the trailer and demo promised too much. You can yell and fire warning shots next to the suspect's head to no avail, because the AI is bugged. They will sometimes just not give up. I've also had enemies bug out on doors which they could not open. They clip into the door and stop moving/reacting unless you get VERY close to them at which point they will stab or shoot you without warning.

As someone else here has stated:
"Did you shoot a suspect charging at you with a weapon after you told them to drop the weapon? That's unauthorized use of force. Did you shoot a suspect refusing to drop their weapon after screaming at them and firing multiple warning shots? That's unathorized use of force."
This was my experience as well. And before you ask: What does "unauthorized use of force" mean?
... it's a point penalty.
You literally get penalized, because the game is buggy.

Your "partner" is quite braindead and playing with him is a punishment in itself. He is either (1) standing in the way, (2) dying after getting hit (which will cost YOU points), (3) throwing a flash bang at you or the wall, blinding you, or (4) killing you by mistake in some other way.
He does NOT feel like an intelligent addition to the game. He is a burden.

You cannot lean against a wall before opening a door. You cannot knock at it to lure out an enemy. You can't knock out an enemy by hitting the door at his face. You can't put the CQC- or yell-command ("give up") on your additional mouse thumb buttons. So you can't walk & knock someone out (comfortably) at the same time.

This game needs some serious polish.

My toxisplasmosis ridden brain loved this! And the music is so... catchy...

Secrets:
01) Click the street lantern flames to see Santa Claus!
02) Click the presents to hear a special cat christmas chant!
03) Click the door on the bottom left to see a surprise ginger bread bunny!
04) Click the snow man to the right to hear him sing "meow"!
05) Click the card above the third lantern (from the left) to make it change symbol to a heart.
06) Click the barrel next to the cat playing with a mug. it will make a short sound.
07) Click the little bells above the stores to get a bell sound.
08) Click the beer glas for a sound effect.
09) Click the snow man on the bottom right to see him greet you!
10) Click the snow men in the middle to see them wonder about where the click came from.

It's a super long fetch quest with excellent decoration.
Don't believe the reviews that have below 30 hours playtime.
I am above 50 hours and still not at the end.

Fun to start, tiring to finish.

The love in this game, the free DLC and the level of polish is just incomparable to other competitors.

They really deserve my recommendation, although I'm a bit turned off by the fetch quest and managing part of the game.

It's just a boring grind with endless fetch quests. The promised humor is only present in the first hour or so.

I paid 6,74 € for 16.1 hours of fun and I haven't even got all of the achievements yet! This is cheaper than a movie and also has contains much more value!

I reloaded a lot, because I try to avoid any units. If you play more casually, this game should have about 9-10 hours of fun for you!
This game is polished! That means I didn't encounter a single bug or crash!
The game supports 21:9 WQHD ultra-wide. Unfortunately, the "Junkfish" logo and the wallpaper for the main menu are low resolution and look strange in ultra-wide.

The humor fits the theme and is partly brilliant, partly... childish and disappointing. I really liked: The turret (but I feel like there was something missing in the finale) and the birthday cake. I didn't like the names (Pecker, Dickinham *yawn*) and the missing deeper character motivations.
The game is not a lifeless hull, it was made with love. You can see that because of the countless details woven into the levels (references, easter eggs), the hand-written lines and voice acting for the important characters. There are even proper cutscenes (intro, events, ending). Unheard of for a <10 € game!

The gameplay is turn-based and the levels are not randomly generated. That means replay value is almost not there if you are not playing for the achievements. That being said: The gameplay mechanics compliment each other, allow for upgrade choices and are well made.
The turn-based strategy can be very boring though. There is one level with about 30+ mines and you have to wait for every. single. one. of them to rotate on each enemy turn. That was very frustrating.

One major point of critique I have is that you can't access the level menu freely to repeat missions. If I want to get all the achievements for example, I either have to make a save for EVERY level or play the entire campaign again. Because I couldn't just repeat levels, I had to play very carefully, save a lot and reload saves. That felt like walking on egg shells, broke immersion and wasn't fun to be honest.
Another point of critique regarding saves is that the game DOES NOT have cloud saves. I wanted to continue playing the game on my laptop when I was out of town and the game did not have the save files available on the other pc. That was disappointing.

According to the achievements, about 58% of people who own this game actually start it up and about 16% complete it. There is still room for improvement, but for such a small game this is probably quite good.

The game also didn't feel very challenging. Most of the challenge comes from prediction the patrol routes for the guards and hope for the best. So it's basically just figuring out the level structure etc.
The soundtrack was okay, but there was not a single head-banger in there unfortunately. So soundtrack choices could be improved. Sound effects in general were functional and flawless.
There should have been at least one "wilhelm scream" in this game. Unfortunately there wasn't.

I really like this game anyway! It's like a short entertaining novel with a lot of humor baked into it. I am hoping for a part 2 with more evolved humor and sentient turrets!

EDIT: Changed the review to positive. The music is just too damn good.

HOWEVER...
The pathfinding algorithm for regular unit movement is abysmal. I have NEVER seen anything like this before.

It's almost like the developer wanted to troll the players and made units choose the longest possible way every time.
My harvester chose to drive THROUGH the enemy base although there were no ressources there and also no refinery. Why? I have no idea why...

The game (command & conquer - haven't played RED ALERT yet) is really good though.

There are some REALLY weird bugs. For example, you can't name a save file "30". Your game will crash if you do. Imagine trying to save important progress and then the whole game crashes...

After CSGO2-update: I don't know why, but the game lags despite me having 120 FPS. What's happening here?

I suck at shooters, because I get scared easily. I get jump scares from people suddenly turning around corners :D
So as you can imagine, this game is a heart attack on a loop for me.

This isn't why I am giving this game a bad review. I suck at shooters and I know that. That's not the developers fault. In fact, the excitement is fun sometimes. However, the game does not place me in matches with similarly "skilled" players. So my experience consists of me joining competitive matches and then facing Level 100 players or whatever, getting yelled at by angry Russians or getting kicked out of matches, because I am apparently not allowed to have fun anyway. I haven't even used the chat or the voice chat, so there is no other reason. 50% of my time in-game is watching other players play, because I get killed early. I would really enjoy playing more games with noobs like me. You don't put Mike Thyson into a boxing match with a young skinny dude either.
The most annoying thing are stupid jingles or dance moves from other players that you have to watch/listen to apparently. Maybe there is a function to turn it off, but I haven't found it. Makes me feel like I am playing Fortnite or some other game for 14-year-olds who have to be entertained with something different every 10 seconds. I just want to play a damn shooter and listen to my own music running in the background.

I also have trouble understanding what went wrong sometimes. Sometimes it seems to me like my shots are right on target, but I die first anyway. The kill cam is way too fast (no slow-mo) however and there is no function that shows me what trajectory my shots actually had or where they landed. So if this is a bullet "spray" issue, I can't properly understand how the spray mechanics work. Have I moved my mouse too far or not far enough? Have I aimed at the wrong spot at the door? I also can't rewatch the game or evaluate it. The gameplay statistics are also hidden behind a monthly subscription paywall so I can't even compare the accuracy stats for different weapons to choose the weapons I can handle best. I don't understand why I have to pay money for something that is free in other games and that is nothing more than a glorified Microsoft Excel chart.
One major thing that I don't like about the gameplay is the accuracy while moving. The game rewards standing still and first shots. So many people just sit in certain positions and use a sniper rifle to shoot people through that door (gap) on the DUST map for example. When you move, your accuracy suffers a penalty and you are at a disadvantage. That's very realistic, but I enjoy more dynamic gameplay like Quake Live (years ago) in shooters - where keeping your aim on target for a longer time is more important and movement much faster.

Some players also have strikingly good accuracy. So good in fact that I can see (in the killcam footage) that their view is following MY movements behind walls which they shouldn't be able to see through (even when crouching).
I have done a quick check online and it seems pretty apparent to me that VALVE Anti-Cheat is not effective enough at preventing cheating. There are numerous website offering cheats for CS:GO. Comparing this with the web archive proves that those (websites) have been available for longer periods of time. A video made by g0at recently proved that about 30% of players in "Escape from Tarkov" do use cheat software. That doesn't mean it's the same for CS:GO, but I think I have seen some killcam clips in which there was no good explanation for how the players were able to act in the way they did without suspecting the use of cheat software.
I have played DayZ before so that is not such a big issue for me, but I wanted to mention that as a side note.

The game mechanics of CS:GO are fun for many people so I don't wanna ruin it for you.
This game is just not my cup of tea so I am not recommending it to people who have a similar taste like me.

The music of this game is the real star! It was made by AYMERICK SCHWARTZ who is definitely a name I will look out for in the future. It really gives this game the atmosphere needed to immerse you into the story it is trying to tell. The story is wonderfully crafted and is referencing many different other great stories like DUNE or the Matrix.

I am giving this game a negative rating, because the developers are promoting video game addiction by using social Steam achievements which are designed to keep players in a mindless grind for over 60 hours after completing the main game.

To get 100% achievement completion, you would have to play through the game with each single ship class on the hardest difficulty. So you have to swallow down the (by then) repetitive story at least 8-9 times or something. It stops being fun after the second run imo. There is nothing really new to discover, apart from a few new tactical insights. The developers are just really *really* proud of their game and the ships they designed, so they want to force it down your throat as often as they can no matter what. It may not have been the original intention, but that what it boils down to.

The achievements could be SO MUCH better if they wouldn't be a grind, but instead would point you towards hidden aspects of the story or to discover something new and exciting etc.

When I played through the game, the events were not chance based, but deterministic. So you just had to learn all the right answers for the "tests" and then repeat the answers till eternity.

The art style and story design were pretty unique during the first run - which I loved.

Feel free to disagree, but I probably won't change my mind about this when it comes to determine whether I recommend this game or not.
I want video games to be all about fun and culture.
Developers who want to force players to act against their own interests and tolerate or incentivize behaviour patterns that can be dangerous for their physiological or psychological health do not deserve recommendation in my opinion. (In this case, I am pretty convinced that this side-effect was not intended, but it's also noteworthy that they are still there and are tolerated.) It's disrespectful for the players.
[Health > Fun]
Same can be said for many other games, especially MMOs of all sort, but that's not an argument FOR this game.

I will change my review if this issue is resolved obviously.
