I would have recommended this since the artwork is fantastic along with the enemy designs and sounds. But the game is borderline miserable as a FPS the second you step off regular difficulty. The main problem is the "toughness" system that apes off the table top. What is toughness? its an armor modifier for enemies and your weapons. On lower difficulties its barely an issue with the titular boltgun ripping through most enemies.

On harder difficulties however it becomes a nightmare of balancing. Lower grunts and enemies have low toughness, so the damage output is about what you expect with an FPS. However, really quickly you will run into chaos champions and plague toads that will absorb an absurd amount of ammo from your lower toughness weapons. This isn't as much as a problem in the first act because the scaling is suited to give you weak weapons/enemies and work its way up. I was having pretty good fun for the first act, but the high toughness enemies were kind of annoying to deal with. Then came the second act.

Despite it not being a boomer shooter, it still keeps the boomer shooter rules of resetting your weapon collection at the start of the new act. This means you're back to a boltgun on the first level of act 2. That wouldn't be an issue until you realize you're running into mid/late game enemies from act 1 again in the first level. You're forced to use your low toughness weapons on harder enemies that will suck up all of your ammo to kill. This becomes a long game of attrition rather than fast paced action, ultimately becoming extremely boring and frustrating to play. This is also ignoring the charge/chainsword is completely worthless on harder difficulties because of the same mechanic.

Overall if you like to play games on easy difficulty go ahead and grab this, otherwise avoid it like the plague.

Its great fun but feels like they made half a game and just kinda punted the rest of it to the finish line. The last two acts are super short and honestly kinda annoying. If you played the game like me and got all 3 stars immediately when completing a level, you'll quickly realize almost half of the stars are pointless and are there as achievement fodder because they ran out of shoe unlocks.

That's another issue, the shoe unlocks. Some of the star challenges are literally impossible without using some shoe modifiers, and sometimes those modifiers are locked to a boss way later than the challenge requires. It resulted in me having to look up how a challenge is possible, only for me to be bummed out that its cheesed on purpose using some shoe from a boss fight.

Overall its a fun experience when the game doesn't make a mess in bed trying to run very basic graphics and levels, just wait for a sale and not buy at full price.

Early Access Review
Really honestly should be 20 bucks or more for how well done the VA/art/level design is. The cut-scenes are fantastic and the setting is amazing. The fist fighting is fun, and levels are loaded with environmental hazards to throw/kick enemies into. Cant wait for episode 2/3!

Takes the best elements of Diablo's min/maxing and combines it with fast paced action combat with souls like difficulty (but much less difficult than Nioh 1's and most of the souls games). Story is great if you like learning japanese history abet with a fantasy twist, and the character creator is good fun with tons of options. Every build is viable, and thanks to the diablo system of randomized loot, you have tons of options when making a build unlike Dark souls with it's predetermined stats for items.

Coop is a blast both the dedicated coop mode and the summon system, and thanks to the refashion system, you can fashion souls yourself to your heart's content. Overall its better than the first game in every aspect, and I cannot wait to see if it gets a 3rd game in the series.

One of the best RPGmaker games I've played that doesn't rely on jumpscares as much, and has an actually interesting combat system. The characters are amazingly written and I loved every single one, and the story will stick in my head for a while.
