Abe's Oddysee was a fantastic platformer that wasn't afraid to go its own way. The only significant problem it had was the inconsistently placed checkpoints, which resulted in a lot of needlessly wasted time.

As a sequel, Abe's Exoddus doesn't make any grand changes to the formula of Oddysee -- but it didn't need to. It is simply more Abe, with more polish. You now have the ability to 'quicksave' through hotkeys or the menu, which basically functions as a save state you can use at any time. It lets the fun puzzle platforming shine. It's a must have on its own, but at the price its sold for, it's an absolute steal.
