Review is based off the hardest difficulty. Parrying might not feel as bad in easier modes.

Parrying needs another pass. Sluggish and janky. Unless there's only a handful of enemies, or large ones, it's just impossible to utilize during hordes imo. It's better to just empty all your ammo and spam dodge (sadly), which makes for a very non space mariney experience.

Graphics are decent, looks super washed out though... No ultrawide is an automatic no recommend.

Not sure what else to say. It's decent, one of the best ways to larp as a space lad w big shooters and clanky armor. Impressive? Not by a long shot. If they fix the ultrawide properly and make parrying feel tighter I'd say it's a solid 7 or 7.5 /10 singleplayer game. Not tried MP yet due to modding in fixes for their laziness.

The theme carries this game like no other aspect though. My score is just based on the fact im a massive 40k fan. It's otherwise a horribly mid / generic TPS with no real standout mechanics or features.

Will change to a very tentative recommend if they patch up this seemingly rushed PC version.

Don't pay full price, it's a legit unresonable ask for this "Arma 2.5" standalone mod. I've been around since the beginning of EA and mod days, never would I ever expect them to rip us off like this. 25-30 at most. You're basically paying for an inferior version of Arma 3 with a lot of broderline copy paste content from the Arma 2-3 ecosystem.

That said. Good fun, glitchy and janky STILL TO THIS DAY. Add the price tag onto that and I'd say hell no. However, if you can find it cheaper it's totally worth it, hence my recommendation.

People recommending this game has no respect for game development. This game was overpriced from day 1, a decade+ in EA and devs that seemingly have no idea how to handle a studio. The fact it released for 44 euro is insulting. This game is an exact stereotype release from the EA survival crafting craze, quick to cash in with 0 vision how to set it apart. I feel like it deserves a "mixed" or "mostly positive" at best. No idea why people think it's good to defend these practices :)

TLDR: If you enjoy the idea of paying 44 euros for the definition of "mid", go ahead. If nothing else it'll be a nostalgic trip to the early days of EA scam games.

What modern Assassins Creed wants to be. Play it on hardest difficulty and feel like a true stealth warrior, save yourself from the AC slop.

If possible I'd give this game a "maybe" recommendation. Having played all of Bethsoft's games however I find myself just being more frustrated than happy seeing this release.

It is pretty clear they are continuing the trend of moving away from what made their old games so popular, immersion.

How many years in the making and all we get is Fallout 4: Reskinned in Space? Not the worst game, not even a bad game but just totally uninspired and lazy feeling from a Bethsoft fan perspective. I was really hoping they'd put at least -some- effort into immersing you with details, well written companions or just something as simple as ground vehicles or lootable armors (that aren't from random loot tables).

The space combat is fun albeit a bit basic and feels more like an on rails shooter than flying freely around in space (not sure how they managed that but they did, at least for me). I love the new armor design and weapon design, it really hits home for me. Just a shame the gameplay doesn't want to immerse me in the universe but instead treats it as a fast travel simulator with Borderlands inspired loot n shooting (RIP looting a cool armor from the dude you just killed, hope you enjoy the random drops, son).

It feels like they took most of Fallout 4 and rehashed it with better textures and animations, didn't bother tweaking how the player simply feels like a floating head with no weight to them or how combat plays out... Not even changing how combat feels at all? They also left behind the gore for some reason... Also moving away from the things that makes the game feel like an rpg. The 1 piece armor system, inaccessible interiors when it makes no sense and no effort put into companions feeling genuine (they are still just braindead pawns without any coding to make them feel human, simply spouting generic voice lines and acting like they've been on your brand new ship 100 times before despite visiting it for the first time... things like that). I could go on about the small details for literally hours and fine, they're just a small indie studio so I guess I'll excuse them.

I just feel like I cannot endorse this game whatsoever until they start putting in effort into making it a proper experience. Kinda sad to see how well received it is at that price tag and the clear lack of polish and effort at selling the space setting to us.

The pros are there, lots of great things to say (mostly about the combat, which doubles for FO4 because it's nearly identical) but most of them feel like bare minimum for a release in 2023 from a triple A studio. I want to love this game and I am sure I will with 200+ mods or lots of DLC. Right now it feels half baked and more of a foundation to build upon. Classic modern Bethsoft in my eyes. Hopefully ES6 won't be a reskinned Skyrim but I am not sure after seeing this release.

I'll likely force myself to get further into the game but none of the above points will be fixed by progressing the story. But hey at least the faces look miles better than their previous games... And they can show emotion on occasion.

TL:DR

If you want a Fallout 4 looter shooter where you drive around in space on occasion (looking at a static spaceship interior that they didnt bother animating) then this is for you.

If you want to feel like you are a spacer, looter, raider or anything with substance beyond the very superficial modern Bethsoft design this game won't impress you.

Horrible RPG. Decent looter shooter. I'm praying for ES6 to focus on immersion, polish and raising the bar slightly of tired gameplay systems but this is not it.

Also lockpicking is a puzzle now, never thought I'd miss the old systems as much as I did.
