Let's kick this review off with a quote. What should it be?
...
Okay, let's start with this one:
'SPAGHETTI!' - Vuxxy, 2015.

So I've been playing Unturned for over 80 hours now and I have to say that I've had an absolute BLAST playing it. While the graphics can not be compared to next-gen games out there, it's packed with all sorts of mechanics that ACTUALLY WORK (I'm looking at you, DayZ). Unturned has a lot to offer to players - from making impenetrable bases and vehicles of mass destruction to peacefully fishing and eating sandviches on the coastline.

So first up, environment. Nights on PEI are dark. Full stop. You WILL need some light sources to survive at night. Zombies are plenty - some are faster, bigger, or stealthier than the others. Their AI is really good for zombies - they won't bump into trees or walls, and if there is a shortcut to your brains - be it a jump through the window or going through a gap just wide enough - they'll take it. You can outrun zombies out in the open for the most part though, which lets you make a run for it should you get into real trouble. And get into trouble you will.

There are three types of weapons (and ammo) in this game - Civillian, Military and Ranger (previously known as Militia). Civilian weapons are the most common type - it's your average 'meh' type of weapons - good enough against zombies, alright against other players. Military and Ranger are the end-game weapons. Weapon balance is really good - the civilian weapons and ammo for them can be encountered frequently and are quite easy to repair while lacking in either damage, accuracy, or range. Should you go into more dangerous locations, you may bump into some Military beasts that have over 9000 damage or crazy range, or you can find some Ranger guns that are much easier to maintain than their Military counterparts while lacking in other areas a bit. Also, Ranger locations are usually a bit less crowded than Military bases.

This game does have quite a steep learning curve - you WILL die a couple of times at first, but hey - it's not as complicated as, say, Dwarf Fortress - don't worry, you'll get there. Although, when you do get to that point where you can fend off hordes of zombies with just your fists, you'll experience that amazing feeling of getting to the top. At this stage, you will probably want to start playing multiplayer.

There are two types of multiplayer servers you can set up - PvP (Player vs Player), where shooting/meleeing/bow-and-arrowing/running-each-other-over-with-a-fire-truck is allowed, and PvE (Player vs Environment), where you swap all those luxuries for being able to peacefully interact with other players. Although PvP is probably the best choice to get that classic zombie survival experience, you can still go for a PvE server if you want to play with your (clearly not so) good friends. Online you can have as much fun as (if not more than) playing offline. Anticheat is pretty good so you won't encounter too many hackers (although there are ways around any anticheat, so don't blame me if you do see one). Hit detection has been improved a lot from the previous version so you will get kills (and get killed) a lot more than before. The map is big enough to not turn into a deathmatch and locations are pretty balanced - for example, zombies in towns are weaker than military zombies, however, the towns have much less to offer.

In addition to all of that, Unturned is updated frequently - you'll probably get hotfixes once a week at the very least. The dev continuously works on new content, bugfixes and compatibility problems to make sure players can have as much fun as possible. He's also very community-oriented - he runs polls a lot and listens to people's opinions (for example, if most people think that the new gun is overpowered, he will probably nerf it).

Not all of you may know it (most of the playerbase does) but Unturned has been made by a 17-year-old. Yup. 17. This instantly makes you forget about the graphics of the game (which are amazing in their own way) and embrace all the cool and innovative mechanics, ultimately making the game even more amazing.
