As a fan of Sekiro and Hollow Knight, the prospect of a game that merges the parry-based combat system of Sekiro with the intricate map design of Hollow Knight was truly captivating. Upon learning about this, I immediately dived into the pre-release demo to get a taste of what the full game would offer. And I can assure you, it didn't just meet but exceeded my expectations. After completing the demo, my only concern was whether the combat system, despite its initial thrill, would become monotonous over time. However, having played the entire game, I can confidently say that this is not the case.

Let's discuss the combat system, the best part of this game, and what makes it shine. The main character has the same movement option as a classic Metroidvania protagonist (think of Hollow Knight if you want an example). But unlike the others, which usually rely on dogging to avoid enemy hits, parrying is the primary way of preventing damage. Parrying consists of pressing a button right before an enemy is about to hit you to avoid taking damage. In most other games, parrying is risky because if you fail the timing, you take full damage and remain in a dangerous position. The genius way the developers managed to make parrying the primary way of dealing with enemies without being too punishing is by making you take two distinct types of damage depending on how good your parry is.

If you manage to make a perfect parry, you take no damage, and if you miss your timing completely, you take damage to your health pool (the game calls it "direct damage"), and if the damage is more than your health, you die like most other games. But the interesting part comes with what the game calls "internal damage", which you take when you miss your timing slightly but still manage to parry the attack.
Internal damage reduces a secondary health poll that can never reach 0 (the minimum is 1). So if you don't take damage or only internal damage, you will never die, and if you let time pass, your "internal health" will slowly regenerate up to your actual health. But if you take any direct damage, your health will go down to the same value as your internal health, and you will take the damage to it.

The 'imperfect parry', where you incur internal damage, is remarkably forgiving in terms of timing. This design choice not only makes parrying an effective way to avoid damage but also instills a sense of peril in combat, enhancing the overall experience.
Combined with other combat mechanics, which I will let you discover on your own, it makes combat a fun, exciting, and intense experience.

But this game excels in many things, not combat alone.
The art style of this game is truly a sight to behold. The fusion of sci-fi, nature, and Taoist elements creates a unique aesthetic that is instantly distinguishable. The developers aptly refer to this blend of inspiration as 'Tao-punk ', a term that perfectly encapsulates the game's striking visual identity.

While not as great as Hollow Knight, the map design is good and uses the various mechanics you unlock throughout the game to make the game world feel larger than it is.

The bosses are incredible, except meaby two which are just good. Every boss of this game feels unique in how you fight them, and they are fun to play against.
While I'm on topic, I want to talk about the difficulty of this game. Many people say this game is too hard, especially the bosses. I consider myself decently good at parry-based games, so take my take with a grain of salt, but I strongly disagree with the "too-hard" judgment.
The enemy placement and attacks are fine-tuned to make engagement with them feel fair. And, as I said before in this review, the parry in this game is very forgiving. The bosses are very balanced, and the game gives you different options to defeat them. There is only one exception, one boss, which is objectively hard to beat but is also, in my opinion, the game's best boss in terms of game design and the most fun to try to defeat.

The only problem I have with this game is parts of its story. I don't want to get into spoiler territory, so I'll remain vague.
While the writing of the main characters is excellent, the game's story stumbles in one of its most essential parts: the message.
The message this game tries to convey is critical to me. Mixed with the quality of the game, I had high standards not met by the game in some of its moments, which made some of the characters feel cartoony or the message unclear in a way that is not made for speculation but feels like bad writing.
Don't get me wrong; the main characters make up for it and make the story of this game good. The problem is how the game conveys its message, not the main story.

Overall, I highly recommend this game to anyone who wants to play a challenging Metroidvania with intense parry-based action, great bosses, and beautiful art direction.
But if you are the kind of person who thinks Dark Souls needs an easy mode, I suggest you stay away from this game.

INTRODUCTION:
i'll start this review saying that you should not expect too much from this game. I say this because i have seen some review saying that this game is "too simple" or "repetitive", And this is said from people who liked the game. I think the reason behind this disappointment is that this game, especially in the beginning and the mid game, looks too good for what it actually is, and i say this in a good way. This game looks and feel like it's made by a team of dozens of people and with a decently good budget. But it's actually made by more or less five people, so they had to cut some corners, especially in the end game (of which i'll talk later). Despite this, i still think that the developers managed to deliver a complete game with a fun and challenging gamplay.
To recap, I think this is a really good game, just don't expect a masterpiece, because it's easy doing so in the beginning.

THE GOOD:
the combat system is preaty simple, but that doesn't mean it's not fun. i especially love the parry system, which is very intuitive (when and where to use it) and rewarding, both in a gameplay way and in a dopamine way.
I don't want to talk about the combat system too much because i don't want to spoil it for you. The only two major thing i am going to say is that, one: in this game you don't have a lot of health, so you die very easily if you are not careful, this is balanced by your ability to heal using icor, which you can gain by hitting and killing enemies. This makes for very intense fights, which i really enjoy.
The second thing i am gonna say about the combat system is that it gets harder as you go on without dying. The game spawn's stronger enemies with bigger rewards, this makes for a dynamic difficulty, and the rewards make you want to keep your not-dead streak. In my opinion, they could have make the change in difficulty more extreme, or at least to cap at a higher point, but still, it's still a nice touch to keep you on your toes.
The story and the lore is very interesting and original. It managed to keep my attention throughout the whole game. If you like dark fantasy and souls-like lore, i think you are really gona like it.
And last but not least, the art style... i mean, just look at it, it's gorgeous!

THE BAD:
As i said above, the game is made by very few people, so they had limited resources and time. This is unfortunately very clear in the endgame, were the developers copy pasted enemies from previous areas. This plus the fact that you have probably discovered all the combat and exploration abilities a while ago makes for a bit of a repetitive experience, this is especially emphasized by the early-mid game experience, which gives you a lot of new enemies in a relative short period of time.
While this is unfortunately very sad, i personally don't think this ruins the experience of the game, it all depends on whether you like the combat system or not, if you do, it's still fun, just not as fun as the previous areas.

I THINK YOU SHOULD PLAY THIS GAME IF:
-you like metroidvanias, but you don't need extremely new systems to enjoy it
-you like pixel art
-you like dark fantasy world and souls like lore (it's more dialog based here but you know what i mean)
-you don't mind short games (about 20 hours)
-you like hard games

this game really surprised me, because i usually don't like survival game.
the reasons why i liked this game are
1) the beautiful underwater world, and his beaing not too large so that you are able to see it all without losing 80 years of your life, and not too smal so that you don't feel that the world is not finished.

2)is crafting sistem. it's really easy to understend and use, and the way in which it dosn't take you 200 hours and 10 friends to craft a spoon.

3)the way it guides you. following the story of the game make's you found new areas with new items that would be really hard to find normally.

ho giocato abbastanza a questo gioco per dire che è più che decente.
ma ha comunque pregi è difetti che elenchero quà sotto.

PREGI
-può dare una bella sfida nel completare al meglio il gioco. ottimo per chi la cerca
-abbastanza originale come gameplay
-aggiornato frequentemente e (secodo me) nella giusta via
-se ti piace il genere gestionale ti può prendere ore
-appagante quando finisci un livello

DIFETTI
-traduzione inglese non proprio perfetta
-ad un certo punto del gioco può diventare un po incasinato gestire il tutto
-sistema di salvataggio un po troppo "estremo"

ma alla fine se vi piace lo strategico/gestionale (come me) potrebbe piacervi quindi ve lo consiglio

questo gioco e molto bello per vari motivi
1)è un GTA per chi non si puo permettere GTA. ho comprato giochi meno belli di questo a più di 20 euro quindi è bello ed economico, cosa volete di più dalla vita :D
2)la storia (io che lo un po seguita) è abbastanza bella anche se lunica cosa che interessa a un player è di distruggere qualsiasi cosa XD
3)è un semi open world e oltre a le missioni principali si possono anche fare tante altre missioni secondarie
4)l'ottimizazione e perfetta. io che ho un pc di merda (1 GB di scheda video,4 GB di ram,un processore da 1.85 Her)questo gioco mi gira a 45 FPS costanti a volte anche 60. è la grafica è anche carina quindi cosa aspettate compratelooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!
