PIRATE DISCO ELYSIUM

In a great spiel of tragic irony, Disco Elysium's critism towards capitalism has become reality for the creators of the game. The details are spelled out in enough other reviews, but the creative minds behind Disco Elysium have been pushed out of ZA/UM by profit-focused stakeholders, and the world these people have been working on for tens of years has been stolen by the company.

My original review is even more bittersweet now - as this means there will never again be something like Disco Elysium. Don't let the people who now control ZA/UM get away with this. If you buy this game, the bulk of the profits will go to people who had nothing to do with creating the game. Pirate Disco Elysium and keep an eye out for projects by Robert Kurvitz, Helen Hindpere, Martin Luiga and/or Aleksander Rostov and many of the other talented people who actually worked on this game. Support them with your money instead. Apparently creating art which is also massively succesful and profitable is... still not good enough.

[Original Review]
Disco Elysium has been bittersweet. It has awakened a yearning in me for more like it, fully knowing nothing comparable exists.

You are paying for an early access game. It might not be labeled as such, but that's what it is.

The game is fine, a bit pricey perhaps, and not spectacular by any means. But Paradox needs to be honest for once and just call it what it is: a work in progress.

Update as to 2.0 Marius:

Game is a lot better but, as far as I'm concerned, is now at the point it should have released at. It is an alright Paradox Grand Strategy, a *bit* barebones and definitely the least interesting of the bunch so far.

Still, core issues remain. Some crippeling bugs, like not being able to move pops in holy sites. Some truly annoying quirks like levy management in the current update and dragging still selecting ships for some insane reason.

Maybe in another year I'd recommend this one, but it is on its way for sure.

Very impressive sequel, definitely have not seen a follow-up to a game change it in such a huge way, while still keeping the core gameplay intact. Would recommend, though, because of its early access, it's a little bit light on content at the moment. (That being said, it has a lot more content than most early access game at release.)

Like others mentioned, it needs some more polish (especially in finding that damn teleporter.) I think the first risk of rain had a much better atmosphere, and I feel like that hasn't been captured exactly here, so I hope they can improve on that in the future.

Excited to see where this game will go!

THE GOOD SHIP
''OBRA DINN''

I just don't feel like I can put into words why this game is so. damn. good. But it is.

In my eyes - this - is the pinnacle of video games. A platform for creating amazing, unique experiences that simply can't be achieved by any other form of media. This game singlehandedly changed my vision on the way we tell stories, and how much potential this form of doing so still has.

'Return of the Obra Dinn' has left me with a slightly sad and melancholic feeling, knowing that I'll never get to experience playing it for the first time again. To be frank, I'm straight up jealous as hell that you will be able to.

Take the leap and go in blind. You won't regret it.

Although Paradox has been dropping balls left and right lately (HOI4, EU4 and Imperator: Rome come to mind), they have shown that they still got it with this DLC. The last few dlc's for CK2 were mediocre at best, but Holy Fury hits it out of the park. The game feels completely overhauled and even people who won't buy this DLC profit immensely from the free patch alongside it.

More like this Paradox. Please.

Now I'm a sceptical ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ - and that's how I went into this game. I heard it had a lot of 4th wall breaks and stuff, which I hate, so needless to say I didn't go into it open minded at all.

It's pretty good.
