The deckbuilding is fun, but I'm here for the fast, intense, calculated fighting.
Building a deck defines your character's moveset, and lets you customize the type of combos you might draw. Very satisfying to combine different moves in unique ways, and find synergies with other moves and your characters's 2 basic abilities.
The characters are all very cute and thematically interesting, including a smattering of guest characters from other games in the same wheelhouse.

The battle system is my favorite part. Buffering moves into strings can feel brainless at first, but actively looking at the cards you'll be drawing next and planning 3-5 moves ahead is a skill that will take mastering. A rather robust training room lets you simulate different situations and look for interesting combos or traps for your opponent to blunder into. True skill comes into play when you start dominating your opponent with sick reads and devastating setups.

ALL FOR LESS THAN $5. I'm about to go buy One Step From Eden too so the devs can eat a big pizza with extra pepperoni.

Highly recommend this to anyone who likes action, fighting, card games, or even just cute pixel art.

Been having a great time with this game. I wouldn't say I like it more than Xrd, but it has been a blast to play with my friends of all skill levels, and with the killers in the tower. Quite accessible learning curve for new players, and plenty of depth for veterans. I love that the game includes SO MANY features for newbies to learn how to play, including a fantastic mission mode structure, and simple things like video demonstrations of moves in the move list.

Each character has specific skills to master as you improve, so high-level players will find plenty of depth. As a veteran I also enjoy playing casuals with various characters, as the *basic* combo structure is similar for most of the cast. This is even true with the advanced characters like Zato, Jack O, and Happy Chaos, meaning I can pick them up and goof around (vs lower skill players) without knowing any advanced or difficult combos.

I must state that the server quality and lobbies *outside* of matches is TERRIBLE. The game *still* takes at least a minute to connect before allowing you into the main menu, and then connecting to online mode takes even more time. I don't have a problem with the arcade machine lobby style, but actually USING these lobbies feels like garbage. There is *always* a delay of several seconds when connecting to a machine to play, and quite frequently it will fail to connect in a variety of situations. It is SUPER frustrating especially when compared to other games from the series. These things are not a dealbreaker for me, because the actual matches are next to flawless, but it is a *major* downside to playing this game.

Pros
+Very good netcode
+Robust training mode (includes dummy reversal options for lots of scenarios)
+Great tutorial mode featuring advanced mechanics and tactics
+Comprehensive move list with built-in video demonstration, including command normals
+Online combo sharing feature is great
+No tech buttons
+Some great new music, and includes most of the previous games' tracks
+Easy to learn basics to start formulating a gameplan with any character
+Roman cancel system is streamlined and effective, with room to play with fast RCs
+Nagoriyuki is the coolest character ever, both in gameplay and design
+Reasonably paced release schedule for DLC characters

Cons
-Lobbies are bad in every possible metric
-No in-game frame data
-Ranking system is shallow
-Gatling limitations are contentious, a turn-off for series veterans
-Tactically not as deep as previous games, due to less complex movement and smaller move lists
-No steam friends functionality
-Only one controller works in the main menu unless you back out to title screen (why is this still a thing?)
-Still missing a lot of key characters like Dizzy, Slayer, etc
-I kinda miss Blitz Shield

Please put rollback in Xrd I'm begging you Arcsys

After playing Xrd for a few years at an intermediate level, this game is very refreshing. The high speed of neutral and wildly unique characters make this a blast to play at any skill level.

... and the netcode is godlike, as of the beta.
