The DLC doesn't really introduce anything "New" to the game.
What's new
  • A very generic story about one of the governments in the Settled Systems, who are seemingly fanatics worshiping a deity known as the Great Serpent
  • One new planet
  • A few phantom-like enemy types
  • A couple of new weapon types
  • A bit of new armor
  • A couple of new ships
  • A couple new side quests

Summary of why it's bad
  • Very short, like less than 6 hours of main story
  • Poor interaction with main game characters, specifically Andreja
  • Poor effort on new ships
  • Focusing the DLC on one location in a game about exploring the universe, is very unambitious.
  • The story is literally just a copy paste tyranny story, with a small thematic twist. Barely unique in any sense.

First Impressions

As a solo player, the experience is good .

It's one of the most appealing "survival open world multiplayer shooters", and that's saying a lot with such a saturated market of games in that exact genre.

The core gameplay loop is kinda repetitive, clear a strongholds/POIs with the same objectives every time.
A few fun sidequests, with some of them being voiced is also alright. It could be better, but it's also not bad at all.

Some dialogue scenes are missing animations, dont know if it's intentional. I dont feel the game is immersive enough for it to be off putting, so I won't count it as a negative, but of course it could add some immersion.

Still not fully understanding the seasonal model, other than it being phased into 6 weeks, with new stuff unlocking every week. That in itself is already proving appealing for returning players, who might grind a lot early on, having something to come back to.

On the note of the developers, they are the most communicative early stage devs and CMs, I have encountered, addressing player issues directly and even communicating openly with creators, with valid opinions and constructive criticism.

Lastly, the game has the free-est F2P model, I've encountered personally.
All shop purchases are cosmetics, and it doesn't seem like you can gain any advantage by swiping.
When that is said, the current cosmetics are pretty bad, I can understand if cosmetics doesn't have top priority by the designers currently, but at a later time, it would be good to see some better cosmetics in the game (It does not have to be something crazy, cool looking gear could do it).

All in all, a good initial time spent, I definitely see myself coming back to the game long term.

Initial score: 7.5/10

Fairly hesitant as a non-soulsbourne player to even pick this up, but as a sucker for the perfect approach to open world games and the great critic reviews I gave it a try.

It turned out to be top 3 of any game I ever played.

- Beautiful world
- Deep moving story and character lore
- Fantastic OST
- Excellent voice acting and great boss voice lines
- Loads of locations to explore, bosses to fight, non-intuitive quest lines to pursue and gear, weapons, spells etc. to perfect your build.

The entire game is surrounded in a sense of melancholy that makes the entire experience of this game deserving of the praise as a masterpiece by design, lore and direction.

Having bought and gotten into this game 6-7 years after release was apparently a wise choice.

The two main DLCs, Rise and Fall and Gathering Storm, round off the game experience to match what my impression of Civ V is. With that said, it's somewhat sad that those game mechanics are locked behind DLCs as they don't really add much difference to the previous game. Having played the vanilla versions with friends who didn't own the DLCs was a lot less fun than single-player games with the DLCs enabled.

Some of the modes and, of course, the different leaders with unique units, districts, etc., are what elevate the game to the level of a great 4X game.

The game lacks some quality-of-life improvements, and the UI could definitely be improved to make taking your turn a more streamlined experience.

Overall Hogwarts legacy is a fairly polished open world RPG-ish adventure game.

TL;DR wait for a -50% or more sale, the repetitive open world style game does not warrant a €60 price point.

  • The dueling combat is intuitive and fun but becomes repetitive quickly. As I unlocked more spells, I used them for a few minutes then changed back to what I was comfortable with, which is a shame.
  • The world and environment design are beautiful aesthetically but fall pretty flat when secrets don't feel as secret considering most of them can be revealed with a single spell.
  • The story is extremely generic. The idea of ancient magic is interesting but is executed in a predictable fashion. The only interesting storyline is the one of the Dark Arts side quest; however, even that is predictable but with more interesting characters.
  • The open world activities include a variety of tasks from rescuing beasts to solving Merlin's trials (9 variants, divided into 95 total), broom "challenges," etc., and like most other Open World games, follow the same pattern of almost no variety. I somehow still completed most...
Some of the voice acting is really off-putting as most characters do not have the capability to gesticulate and become very robotic, especially if it is an enthusiastic voice actor.
  • Lastly, the way they excused not developing Quidditch for the game was pretty lame.

The game is way too expensive for what you get out of it: tedious, repetitive tasks, unskippable cutscenes, and worse writing than some cartoons produced for toddlers. I can only recommend the game at like 50% off or more - so wait and get it on sale.

Version 1.0

A good experience overall.

See through the bugs and there are some great stories hidden beneath, all with interesting character development following alongside the main story. Great voice acting, somewhat sad the efforts put into facial animation is on the mediocre side - considering what's possible with current gen tech. The writing is really impressive, and the amount of bits story and journals you can find stored on data chips throughout the city is immense.

The gun-play feels decent. Tried better, but also way worse. Something about the visual stimuli feels off on certain gun types and reticles even when completely still and 100% on target. However, this might be a known bug for all I am aware.

"Level" design or world design, is literally breathtaking with great attention to detail. World commercials functioning as provocative marketing, pointing out the direction our current world is taking where sex sells more than ever and drugs are normalized, it will definitely start a stream of thoughts for some people, I know it did for me.
Night City itself is the perfect setting for the relations going on between the corporate trying to control those on the streets and those coming in from the outside.

The AI however is close to the worst I've seen in any Open World game. Encountering random NPC's that lay tripping on the ground hit you with a randomly chosen voice line is just weird and breaks immersion. Also the amount of Vendors/Shops you cant interact with at all is massive. Makes the huge city fell way smaller than it is. Driving on a massive highway with 3 lanes going either way should also allow AI cars to move around your car if you park in front of them, games tracking back over 10 years have this stuff down pat, CDPR should be able to achieve the same..
I'm hopeful that updates and eventual DLC will be able to fix some of these things, having great AI in a Open World game really makes for a great experience.

The game is meant for current gen consoles and PC, in order to reach the same level of immersion that I did. I think it is a mistake by CDPR, to make builds for old gen (PS4/XBONE). Maybe that would have taken the right amount of load off developers, in order to ship the perfect game that would have gotten 10's across the board in all reviews. Naturally, any game has it's bugs and glitches and I've been lucky to avoid the game breaking ones, but I feel like the game would've been ready if the developers would have had that time to focus on the "relevant" platforms.

Overall, the release of Cyberpunk 2077, is gonna sit close to me as being one of my favorite games. And with the direction it's taking, hotfixes and updates might just put it in the top 5 for me personally. But till then I cant really justify giving it the praise I hoped, I could have.

7.5/10

Version 2.0: Phantom Liberty

With Version 2.0 and the Phantom Liberty DLC, Cyberpunk 2077 has come to the point where it should've been at release. We can thank the Game Industry for handing us a half baked product back when 1.0 first rolled around. It isn't entirely in the perfect state as one could've hoped for when the game was first teased, but I find it to be acceptable for the broad player base.

I've never thought of CP2077 as a game to set the new bar for sandbox open world games, the way GTA V did it previously. More like a great story, with unique action and combat, interesting characters, well written dialogue and lore (shards) as well as notable gimmicks for remembrance. And I think CDPR succeeded at that already in version 1.0.

However, the changes to the systems, weapon crafting/upgrading, perk trees and wardrobe especially, all really polished what I would want from CP2077 from the beginning.

Phantom Liberty
The DLC raised the bar even further for good story telling, while I didn't really think the game needed more celebrity cameos, the characterization of the new individuals met in game, works greatly at making you forget these are famous actors.

I mentioned it in my 1.0 review as well, but I cant help but to really enjoy, as terrifying as it is, the overall narrative still fits a "Cool high tech future", but with the lying feeling of dystopia and chaos. Also, the animations are absolutely fantastic, and the level design of e.g. the Black Sapphire is astonishing.

To conclude. CP2077 is definitely worth the price and your time at this point. While it's understandable it can still feel like a letdown, if a sandbox was what you expected. But Night City never felt more alive, while it still has bugs some strange dialogue with random AI, the experience overall has elevated a lot since launch.

Fantastic port. Plays super well on Mouse and Keyboard.
Feels like an overall QoL improvement to the PS4 version, with higher framerates, better graphics and NVIDIA DLSS integration.
Oh, yea and the story speaks for itself - something you will have to experience for yourself. Great actors, fantastic scenery, incredible soundtrack and great game design overall.
