thanks to Epic Games, every broke reprobate has this title for free, and thus cooperative team play has almost entirely disappeared from this game

Delta Farce
this has NOTHING to do with original IP, aside from the fact that guns are involved
generic team looter shooter much like PubG or Fortnite, tactics are not involved

Awkward start of an amazing franchise that fills in niche left unattended by Valve.
Story ties in with Half Life and Portal universe.
Some of the puzzles and mechanics are clumsy. Sound design and music is alright, but level design is lacking at times.
Despite this, game still delivers thrilling action package worthy that of a standalone media.
The story and perspective of protagonist is in stark contrast with classic Half Life titles, instead of accidental scientist-turned-freedom fighter, you will be playing a rather insignificant role, that of a regular Civil Protection officer.

Spiritual successor to Valve's Half Life and Portal universe.
Highly recommend to anyone looking for that Half Life 3 / Portal 3
Music and sound design is stellar. Together with great level design, this makes for one rich immersive experience.
Game is packed with story and hidden easter eggs ready to be discovered.
And the best part? It's free! The Campaign is not very long, but it need not be any longer either.
It is uncanny, that a fat furry on internet would recommend me this title, before Steam does (coincidence?)
You will be playing the game as Overwatch Elite soldier, after promotion earned in City 10.
Disclaimer: game does not feature handheld portal device or gravity gun. There is however a vast arsenal at your disposal.
As indie titles often do, this game does have some bugs, inconsistencies, but they generally do not impact the quality of gameplay. One should first play Entropy: Zero, the first installment of the mod, to better understand some of mechanics and plot devices. This game is hardy a relaxing experience, even on medium difficulty.

They will shut down the game in few months, and they have perma banned me for what I assume is calling out developers in general chat. The community is toxic, full of cheaters, racists, and moderation is lacking and appears to me they just don't care any more. I've spent good money on this game and that money spiraling down the drain as I write this.

this is not a comprehensive structured review, rather a list of annoyances that grows and will continue to do so unless I can no longer play the game
years later, still incomplete game with cheater problem
still a proud title made by the people who were responsible for "Chaser" (you thought i didnt know, ya greasy bastards, ha!)
community is pure cancer, literally no way to tell if someone cheats or not, even on community servers.
from a company that employs more than 400 people this title has disappointed the fans year after year
each update only keeps the game alive for slightly longer because for us the dedicated players the flame of hope that game will eventually be ready, optimized and playable is just too hard to extinguish, but it ends up being ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ like minor cosmetic changes and a new weapon, every 4 or so months.
Livonia is money-grab DLC (added later: no joke, after Livonia DLC everything went downhill)
while i know some might say that we should be happy with what we have and to adapt and improvise where the game lacks fidelity or functionality, it is important to note that YEARS have passed and things are not much better in areas which REALLY matter - performance and anti-cheat.
year later, clothing articles still clip thru each other in odd fashions.
medieval armor? what the ♥♥♥♥ are they smoking at Bohemia Interactive? who asked for this?
the more gear you get the saucier of target you are to cheaters, BattlEye is useless, literally malware.
devs seem to be trying to fix everything except for the core element - zombies. sometimes even things that arent broken.
just my suspicion, but tech demos really kinda look scripted.
1.22 update brought shotgun bug - red scattershot shells would only register one of the sixteen (or so) pellets hitting target, so 1 - how does that get past the quality assurance team?; and 2 - they didnt change anything about shotguns, or bullets, so why did the bug even happen?
1.22 runs, 1.23 doesnt 0xC0000139 - STATUS_ENTRYPOINT_NOT_FOUND
will probably be refunding this after 900 grueling hours of hoping the damn thing doesnt kick me from struggling servers or crash my computer; on grounds that it no longer works on the same configuration as when i purchased the game.
on top of that a crash prompt now appears when i CLOSE the launcher, why doesnt it close? how closing a program could possibly generate an error?
while investigating the problem, ive come to find out, from official DayZ forums, feedback forum and the like, that the element which requires a media suite specifically made for Windows 10 and up (therefore ending support for Windows 7) is a silly main menu video rectangle, which given how much time is spent in game versus in main menu (unlike some games, Counter Strike, for example) is trivial at best, and id rather have the video not play at all.
mind you on these forums i dont see any developers or spokesperson address the issue at all, its been one day since 1.23 release.
there is absolutely no reason for DayZ to discontinue running on systems with earlier than Win10 versions.
i dont think developers understand that many people like myself only play DayZ as a compromise, because personally, my computer is a piece of ♥♥♥♥, but it can draw mesh and textures, and thats really what i need from the game, not a fancy codec to play yet another advertisement inside the product i have already purchased with money. so if i had a current gen computer i would be playing games with much more polish and fidelity.
shameless and immoral Bohemia Interactive. i highly suspect microtransactions are soon to follow.
besides all that, atmospheric and immersive "get your shoes stolen" simulator.
dont get too many zombies in one place or you might crash the server or experience a stroke from the bit-crunch made from layered zombie moans.
