Selaco is a breath of fresh air in an increasingly stale boomer shooter genre, eschewing the typical Quake-Doom-Blood formula for a slower and more immersive experience. While its intriguing worldbuilding is let down by a threadbare story that's seriously lacking context and too much of the difficulty comes from cheap-shot enemy ambushes, Selaco otherwise weaves its influences together with skill. If you thought that System Shock would've been perfect if it had F.E.A.R's combat and AI, Doom 3's aesthetics and Half-Life's sense of level design, this is your dream game come true. Selaco has the makings of an all-time great, and even in its current state is more than worth the price of admission.
