Since 2011 Supergiant Games has been constantly setting the example in the indie standards; Bastion, Transistor, Pyre, Hades and now their first sequel ever Hades 2. One of the constant thoughts I remember about playing this game and seeing constantly new stuff was that all is incredibly polished and refined, is exactly what I wanted (and maybe even more) when I felt finished with the first game which I gave like 400 hours (I played between Switch and Steam) in 2021. I'd say that the 'Hades' duology are some of the highest peaks that the genre has reached. As everything created by human beings it has certain 'imperfections' but I'd say that they are rather minimal in the great scheme of things. I'm just glad to be alive enough to be enjoying a game with such quality as this one; Supergiant Games just never fails. Thank you.

Postapocalyptic, bizarre, dark, hopeless, bleak, disturbing, cruel, sordid, miserable, absurd, hilarious, tragic... A truly unique, shocking, ingenious and fascinating RPG experience... Between all of the MOTHER/EARTHBOUND's progeny like Omori and Undertale; LISA is my personal favourite pick, it really deserves proper recognition...

I just want to leave my thoughts and opinion of this game here in this review because I love to redact about games that I enjoyed completely, free of spoilers, in english, seeing that overall it is the "least rated" game on Steam from Supergiant Games. Let's see if I can contribute even a little to the game being more valued, because it deserves it.

Pyre is a game about mercy, forgiveness, repentance, redemption, all this related to the main theme of the game which is freedom, with dilemmas towards these concepts in a fantasy world context, in the narrative style of Supergiant Games, which as you might expect, does not disappoint and is always incredibly compelling and solid. You must guide a group of characters, who are exiled (of any kind) to the freedom of that exile that can only be achieved by playing some species of games / battles / matches called rites (in which there are some that are quite epic empowered by the soundtrack), where the skills of each character are put to test, each have their own branch of learning and their own role, everything else I think deserves to be explored on your own.

This is a kind of RPG that is different from pretty much everything I've ever played, in terms of gameplay and story (which are intrinsically related like in all Supergiant games). It is a game in which you read a lot, sometimes reminiscent of a visual novel, but this in my opinion adds a lot of substance, and therefore also meets the expectations that it will be full of very well placed details.

All the interaction within the game is extensive and very appropriate if compared to its previous games, since it is set in a fantasy world with its respective regulations and a story behind that little by little throughout the game one discovers thanks to everything that the game itself gives you (pages of the book, for example), going through certain areas, meeting certain characters, etc., progressively and as I said, what I consider complete enough. In part this game is reminiscent of several JRPGS of yesteryear, perhaps because of the vast world it presents, or because of its already said fantasy setting, which is greatly enhanced by its selection of songs (Darren Korb and Ashley Barrett give excellent performances, the music will always be related to the scene, part, character or group of characters that appear in the game, I feel that Darren Korb makes it perfect encapsulating the fantasy atmosphere), and its settings, in addition to having an eccentric cast of characters that have relevance in the world. Logan Cunningham also shows more facets of his great voice that we know from "Rucks" on Bastion and "The Transistor" on Transistor. And the art, the visuals and the graphics are stunning as always, excellent to be made by an indie developer studio.

There are very unique feelings that develop as you play, there will be times when you feel regret for taking away the freedom of opponents who may be looking for more time than you, or who even have their reasons (which are diverse, some want to return to the place from which they were exiled for social prestige, others for their own benefit, some do not even have a solid reason, etc), with which despite that one can agree, it is still better for us to win or maybe even let them win! (There are times when certain dialogues, whether introspective or towards our main group, it just touch us whatever the reason is). Defeat, by the way, is something you must live with in the game, as it tells you, there are things that your group would never learn or experiment if you never lost, in addition to the fact that the defeat does not prevent you from advancing in the story, the game continues, so I think it is good to make the game more difficult through the stars of the titans (a system to increase the difficulty typical of Supergiant games, obviously with benefits, this time of additional experience). One is the one who decides throughout the game who deserves his freedom and to return to where in general everyone comes from, and as soon as each character leaves and expresses the gratitude he/she feels both for our entire group and for us, and that he/she is going to be supporting us from that place... They are quite unique situations that the game builds.

Well, the gameplay of this is the opposite of what one is used to, both from Supergiant games and in general, I would say, and I quite respect the step that this game represents for Supergiant Games, it is a game with much greater duration than its first 2, and with a LOT more interaction, absolutely in every way. In addition to making ambiguous the concept of "good ending and bad ending" (this was already more or less done in Bastion) that in general there is always in many games, along with that of defeat, which does not force you to repeat a certain part until that you win, the game progresses and from a plot point of view your characters learn from it and even the game's own history reminds you throughout your journey.

As I was reading, in the words of Greg Kasavin on a Steam forum, in this game there are approximately 200,000,000 variations or modifications at the end of the game, so definitely each game is going to be peculiarly unique, as Supergiant Games on Steam as a mentor says, each game is going to unfold differently and uniquely for each player.

Anyway, I thought this game was going to be something worse than Bastion or Transistor but it gave me a big surprise, and I think, personally, that it is actually better than these 2. Build a better and more solid identity and there are some sensations that this game gives that are quite unique compared to several that I have felt in the previous games or even in other games. So, if you liked the narrative style of the previous Supergiant games, I think this is going to be to your liking too (maybe not very much with the gameplay though cuz it's different from every game before, but hey give it its time), at least I loved it.

In fact, it may be one of the best video games I've ever played. My congratulations to Supergiant Games, each time they are exceeding themselves more and making more works of a superb quality, and that besides are always at a very low price on steam deals.

YES, I RECOMMEND IT.
