Worth playing but incredibly overrated. If you're expecting something as good as Ghost of Tsushima, ER, or Sekiro, temper your expectations. Lowkey feels like a lot of the overly positive reviews stem from culture war bs and are written by Gamers who view GS as some anti-woke messiah for not working with SBI.

It's a beautiful game with interesting and fun combat, great graphics, cinematics, animations, art, score, etc. but it becomes a slog so quickly. The decision to not include a map was a terrible one and makes exploration extremely frustrating. Most of the bosses are honestly a bit too easy yet also incredibly annoying with tons of gimmicks and inflated HP pools. All of the problems with this game become worse as it progresses and it falls off a cliff in chapters 5 and 6.

Also, I saw it compared to soulslikes often before I bought it but it plays very little like one. It's much more akin to God of War but set in Journey to the West.

Incredible game. Been desperately waiting for something to scratch this itch since Hollow Knight and this game completely delivers. Tight controls, fantastic combat and platforming, incredible art, environments, and level design, and decent story with lots of interesting collectibles/lore. Also appreciated the small QoL additions like being able to fast travel between save points and being able to get maps of all secrets so you don't need to look them up online to reach 100% completion.

First half of the game is charming and enjoyable, really enjoyed the vibe of the game. The fights start off fun for the most part but the combat is really shallow and gets boring pretty quickly. Similarly, the manual and not knowing the language was fun at first but it just starts to get annoying as you play. Many of the puzzles just consist of you finding a given solution on a manual page rather than figuring something out for yourself and not being able to read the in-game language makes it such a chore to figure out what manual entries, items, ability cards, etc. even do.

I enjoyed it up until the half way point where the game becomes unexpectedly linear and you randomly lose all exploration ability, yet ironically it's by far the most confusing part of the game. Despite only being able to progress linearly,, it's so hard actually figure out what to do or where to go. You lose your upgrades, the enemies are frustrating (not hard tbh, you can switch to the MP pots card and just Gun through the entire Cathedral, just not fun), and the game just becomes a slog past that.

The game had a lot of potential and was fun for the first 5-6 hours, but wouldn't recommend it considering the price tag, unless you really enjoy these types of games or turning on godmode doesn't ruin games for you.

Great art and music but basically everything else is boring and uninspired. Map/level design isn't good in the village, offering very little verticality or hidden areas to explore. The combat isn't fun and the lack of visual or audio feedback when landing or taking hits makes it feel especially off-putting. Lastly, it's honestly way too easy. Usually I'd expect the first few bosses of games like this to give me a ton of trouble but I beat the first handful of bosses on my first try.

Just buy it. Possibly the best 15 bucks I've ever spent.
