About damn time we get Halo on PC. Yes, it (finally) came out in 2019 and it's 2024, sue me.
Remember owning an Xbox? Remember when you were a little runt and wanted to get Halo on a shiny computer with all the perks of PC and the Xbox experience? Ever wondered what those unplayable demos play like? Remember wanting Halo for cheap?
Me neither. But it's here and it's a great port.

An FPS with a PSX on meth experience. This is the epitome of a game cranking difficulty up every new episode, to the point that even previous "bosses" end up as regular mobs that will swarm you alongside grunts given the chance, and whose health is NOT adjusted because of this fact. Actual bosses (i.e. those who you don't encounter as mobs later) are relentless, so expect just as much punishment from the enemy as you dish out. Every update is a Git Gud update, so you know the drill.

There is just enough context for newcomers to enjoy the story, and enough in-game tips to fully understand the game.
Takeaways: Beautiful scenery, awesome controls, amazing dogfights. Be prepared for BS, and boy is it welcome. Obviously not a sim in any way, but it nails the freedom of the skies. SF64 ending.
Newcomers: Expert mode. Learn it fast, Mission 1 or Free Flight until you get the hang of it. Or enjoy a mediocre experience. The fights on Normal, even, are intense; forgoing full pitch, yaw and roll control is asking for a spanking.
Ace Combat 7 is EXACTLY what sequels should be - better in every single way. Loving attention to detail. Maybe not much for story, but it's as serviceable as you'd expect from an universe called Strangereal.

No, this isn't that SCP game you want. Yes, you heard it all before.
The game has a nice, simple story that drives some mechanics, the Abnormalities come in so many flavors, and you will gradually get tools that are useful enough to allow you to keep up with the chaos. Attention to detail is the name of the game, and you can bring some RTS skills on certain occasions to great effect, but good Management will get you out of trouble, rather than sick APM.
Only on rare cases does a new Abnormality damage your facility bad enough that not even restarting a Day will fix. Very rare cases. It's a fun game that can get tiresome nearing the endgame. Hopefully the story will motivate you to go further.

There probably isn't something that hasn't been said about this game. General consensus says it's amazing, and it's no lie. Gameplay is smooth and with lots of options. Difficulty is set to your demands, and in a very ingenious way. Storywise, it might not be anything too remarkable, but the dynamic narration will make up for what is lacking; it's almost magical the way it does. And the graphics are timeless and beautiful.

This is an excellent example of game design done right. You will see other games following the trend this one might've set... or unearthed from its grave.
