There's no other game like this -- a massive, constant battle to control territories, bases, and the skies. Accept the fact that you, a new player, are gonna die often to some of the best players in this game, learn from those encounters, and you'll have a great time.

One big warning though:

This game will ruin other shooters for you.

This weekend I was looking through my steam library for something to play because I injured my elbow and couldn’t move my mouse without discomfort, so I needed to play something where I could keep my arm steady. It was here I realized I own Sundered, which is crazy pretty and looked awesome so I immediately installed it and started playing.

So… here is my review of Sundered http://steamproxy.net/steamstore/app/535480/:

It’s great... if you don’t mind cheating and bypassing the grindy progression -- it isn’t balanced well enough for it to be essentially numerically impossible for you to progress without upgrading your stats significantly. I wager I’d have taken at least twice as long to finish the game if I’d played it normally, and by then I’d have tossed it aside and never touched it again.

It’s really pretty, and when the combat is actually winnable it feels epic, ESPECIALLY the bossfights. But the progression felt horribly unbalanced and incredibly frustrating. Once I'd worked around that, it became a very enjoyable game.

BLands 2 was better overall. This one kind of just got predictable and old, especially toward the end. The plot advances really strangely and poorly, which makes it feel like the whole story could have been skipped. The level design is really frustrating as well.

So I see a lot of people are giving poor reviews on the Steam Controller for a "Recently: Mixed" where the controller overall has a "Very Positive" Rating. Why? Maybe it has something to do with the early adopters knowing more what they were getting into, very new territory where they'd have to spend some time configuring their controller. They find what kinds of settings they like and can quickly configure their controllers to suit any game they play. Newer users might be having trouble where they think the default or community settings are "tried and true" but aren't actually good for them. Plus, I think more people are getting it on amazon and such and reviewing it there (hence its 4.5 star rating) I figured I'd chime in to defend this gem of a piece of hardware.

First, a warning: This is the best controller out there, but you have to WORK for it to be the best controller out there. You can become very nearly as good as a mouse and keyboard user if you fine tune your settings per game and practice with it. You wont become perfect with it overnight. You won't even be very good with it by the end of the week. But stick with it and you'll have a wonderful extension of your hands. If you don't think that taking the time to set your controller up so you can play the games you want to play on it *competitively* is worth it, and you want to play competitively with a controller, then you're kind of in a Catch 22 situation. It's going to take time, and if you don't take that time, you're not going to have a good time.

Otherwise, the most I can tell you is that so long as the steam overlay can interact with your game, you can use the steam controller on it. Civilization, Dota, Dark Souls, 20XX, you name it. Put some time into configuring it and it'll be effective and fun. The more games you play on it, the more you'll learn about how YOU like your controller working and how best to set it up for you, and the less time it'll take.

The game's looking very promising from the multiplayer gameplay. I kinda wish the devs would release the first couple levels of campaign so we can get a taste, but at this point if you're looking for a solid descent multiplayer experience, this game's got it!
