About STEINS;GATE

Play as Okabe Rintaro - a recent high school graduate with a care-free, Chuunibyou-like personality who has self-proclaimed that he is a mad scientist named "Hououin Kyouma" for having created gadgets with his high school friend Itaru Hashida (Daru) throughout his life out of passion and for contests at times. The story takes place in the summer season of the year 2010 in Akihabara, Japan. Okabe attends a conference on time travel and discovers a lifeless body of an unfamiliar woman around his age who he interacted with a bit earlier. Baffled by his discovery, Okabe later exits the building to find the outside world completely empty . A day later, Okabe revisits the conference area to find what he discovered the day before in a living, completely fine state . Later, Okabe goes to his apartment situated above an old TV shop called the "Braun Tube Workshop". While at his apartment and spending time with his childhood friend Mayuri and high school friend Daru, Okabe gelifies a banana using a microwave and the person he met earlier makes a sudden reappearance at his apartment. Together, this group unintentionally discovers how to time travel to the past as well as time travelling to different worldlines where the world you once knew is different. However, it turns out that time travelling to the past and travelling to different worldlines isn't as simple and straight-forward as we thought it to be!

Play this visual novel to find out what I mean!

More About STEINS;GATE

Less than 1/5th of players reached the end of the game and less than half of the players even made it to the end of the first chapter as of the time that I'm writing this, and I can see why, but not in a negative way.

The prologue as well as the first few chapters, in my opinion, serve the purpose of introducing characters, settings and the concept of time travel that's being created in a very detailed manner to you, rather than throwing plot development at you. In other words, the game's laying out a strong foundation for you which you'll need to digest in order comprehend the events occurring in future chapters. Now, I must admit, the prologue and first few chapters of the game were boring to me, and probably felt boring to most others, which would explain the massive drop in achiever count, but trust me, once you begin reading the middle chapters, you'll lose that boredom and will begin feeling hooked to the game and want to continue reading more as the plot thickens.

The prologue in particular is a part of the game that you'll definitely need to see and read in order to understand what's going on in the true route of the game. The prologue and its writing may seem very confusing at first, but rest assured, the end will address all confusion and questions you may have from the prologue.

The game has a total of 11 chapters, but you may reach an ending in an earlier chapter as the game has multiple endings, which you can obtain based on choices you make throughout the game. Because of this, by the way, I would suggest you to frequently save, especially during [spoiler[d-mailing [/spoiler] so that you can go back at any time to explore alternative routes.

Now, all endings other than the true ending may leave you discontent. It can leave the impression that it felt incomplete or bad, even if it seems a bit good. And your guts are right. As the name of the true ending suggests - it is the true ending, so aim to reach the true ending, aim to open the Steins;Gate. You may struggle to reach the true ending as it requires you to do specific things, so if you are stuck, search up a guide, I found this one quite useful: . I followed it for the true ending. Prior to following it, I obtained Suzu's ending mid-game, then Mayuri's ending and lastly Kirusu's ending.

There's another important reason to reach the true ending, which is that a sequel: "STEINS;GATE 0" uses the true route as a foundation. It's a sequel that focuses on a twisted "what if" scenario to the true ending. So, if you intend on playing STEINS;GATE 0 as well, make sure to reach the true ending in this game first.

Overall, I'd recommend this game, it has absolutely amazing writing and artwork, whoever wrote this must be among the top writer(s) of the world if I'm being honest with you. It's not everyday you encounter a well written story. Multiple endings is a plus that I love.

Anyways, ultimately, for those who haven't purchased this game yet but are looking to purchase it or for those reading reviews before playing the game, keep in mind, you may be really confused and bored at first early on in the game, but be patient, and continue reading and eventually that boredom and confusion will fade away. Trust me, this visual novel carries a rich story that's worth a read. This will always be one of my favorite games of all time.

I hope you find my review useful. El Psy Kongroo.

I just finished the entire game including Michonne, and in the words of the game, I was left quite conflicted . But don't get me wrong, it's not a bad game, it's overall absolutely amazing, it's an above average game with amazing artwork, storytelling and animation.

You may be wondering why I'm conflicted, so let me explain.

Season 1:
In my playthrough, I had no issues with Season 1. It's my favorite season.

Season 2:
Absolutely hated the UI of this season, and especially the mouse mechanic where you have to move it when a brackety thing pops up. The game didn't catch me doing it most of the time. Michonne had a similar mechanic and for some reason it worked way better in Michonne.

Season 3:
I have nothing to really say other than I really question whether or not this season was really necessary to include since we don't see TNF gang again in Season 4. The only benefit I saw was us having to see Clementine linearly grow up. It's quite weird, I ended the season with Javi asking Clem to revisit with AJ, but that never happened. Did the S4 team forget about that ending or did I just not reach a S4 ending where it happens?!?! Oh and also, in the episode 3 intro clip, you can catch Clementine wearing a wrong outfit, some purple, rainbowy jacket if I recall correctly.

Season 4:
I absolutely hated the given reaction times to danger in this season. It felt way shorter than previous seasons. I died so many times compared to other seasons. I'm not sure if this was intentional to resemble more accurate choice making (as in real life, you generally make choices fast) but it was quite annoying, I had to be super fast at times to make the right choices or else I'd die, I felt like a little bit more seconds to make choices would have been better. Also, I experienced an animation error at times where I'd stab a zombie but the zombie would disappear once stabbed. Also, spoiler, if you chose to kill Kenny in S3, Jane in S4 seems a bit chubby. Is that just me??? I really wish this season ended with a visit to Richmond to see Javi's gang again. Also, spoiler, I was superrrr nice to Lily in S1 so she was nice to Lee back but like the way she was in S4 felt superrr out of character because of this. Like she only acknowledged Lee's kindness in S4 by saying he was kind, that's all, and she was quite a jerk. I don't think there's much difference between S4 Lily if you were kind in S1 and S4 Lily if you were not so kind in S1. I feel there should have been more differentiation without ruining the fact that she is a villain. Like, surely, she would have been more open-armed and softer towards us in S4 since we were so nice to her in S1, right? It would logically make sense. But no, she was an absolute jerk. So overall, this season felt a tiny bit rushed, probably because of the excitement to finish making the game. Even though the ending wasn't exactly what I wanted, I was still very happy to see it after what went down towards the end (not spoiling).

Michonne:
Oh, Michonne, I really feel bad for her. I absolutely loved this separate story except for two things. One, in ep. 2 there is a lottta green outlining occasionally seen. I can't tell if it is intentional but it really irritated my eyes. And two, the ending felt a bit incomplete if you decide to revisit your family. I wish, if you went that route, we got to see them again. Perhaps more content (a DLC or another episode) can be created for such an adventure, I'd really love to see where Dominic and the kids are and if they're even alive.

Things I generally hated across all seasons and Michonne:
It was really annoying to make some choices at times that essentially led to the same outcome, like I couldn't say 'No, I don't want to go / do something.' to some things. I'm guessing it was just for character/personality and relationship development and/or for the story to linearly progress. And also, there was occassional blur/glaring at times, making it harder to clearly see characters faces. If this is intentional to resemble accurate lighting / sunrays or whatever, get rid of it, it's doing you more harm than good, believe me, it irritates my eyes.

This may sound like a lot of stuff to hate but the game takes days to complete and believe me, there's more positives than negatives to say about this game. Really loved it. Would love to see more of it. As mentioned, Michonne seems like a perfect story to continue, and maybe there can be more content in which Clem & AJ reunite with TNF gang again and go on a survival adventure.

I absolutely loved the game. The art style and writing were spectacular. It's a mesmerizing game that I would recommend to others. However, I would like to share two pain points I had with this game. Perhaps they were addressed, and I missed the addresses, but here's what pains me:

1. I don't recall a tutorial about the negatives in The Moment of Truth. If you seem to do the moment of truth wrong during those moments, perhaps a tip/hint should be displayed on the player's screen, reminding them what to do during it. Because surprisingly, I made it all the way to the last trial completely not knowing what to do when the moment of truth trial game turned negative.

2. After doing the main story, I did school mode not knowing that you won't really get anywhere without filling all report cards. This should be constantly reminded to the player as they play throughout school mode.

3. The game does not emphasize how important it is to complete report cards. I learned so much through report cards and found them quite useful. In fact, some report card entries such as some from Chihiro's and Celeste's can foreshadow future events if done within the correct timeframe (done before event occurs). So, would recommend everyone to fill out those report cards! The main story will end before all entries are written so try getting report cards done through School Mode or another main story run/go.

Otherwise, I think it's a great game worth playing! Would recommend and play again!

Beware. Can cause ragequits. Difficulty linearly increases from easy to hard. In the end, it's worth it though.

One of the most entertaining and detailed masterpieces that's a decade old and still updated to this date. Very impressive and admirable. Great storyline, voice acting and motion capture. Graphics are above average for the time it was created though around average or a tiny bit below average in modern day standards. Just wish NPC drivers reacted to car horns by speaking, moving their cars to the side or pointing a gun at us and shooting, though. Maybe that'll happen in GTA 6. Make it happen, Rockstar.
