Farming Manager 2018 comes along on after seemingly hundreds of farming simulations where you complete the actions. It also follows on the footsteps of lots of mobile games where you run farms. I find it odd that it’s taken so long to put a farming management sim out there.

I should be clear I received the key and have only played the game for a few hours, the first of which you can see here.

Although i played for a little longer and enjoyed it, there are some path finding issues and a few other little issue.

My only concern is the staying power for this title, but certainly if management games are your thing its worth a try

Where The Water Tastes Like Wine.

After a couple of hours of playing this game I must say I am confused for a number of reasons.

Firstly, it took the full duration of the live stream to figure out what the hell was going on (there are still bits I’m not sure I get). To take a stab at what this game about.

You inherit a debt via a game of cards played against a wolf. The wolf sends you on a journey to learn of stories. At this point the game changes from the amazing hand drawn style to a map of the united states of America in the 1930’s during the great depression. While you travel you pick up snippets of stories which you share with strangers you meet at campfires. These stories are then embellished in to folk tales by individuals across the land.

What I can tell you is that the hand drawn art style, the amazing sound track and fantastic narration make it very very appealing. However, the premise will not be for everyone. As for its longevity. Right now, it’s interesting and I want to get back to it, will that be the case 4/6 hours in? I’m not sure.

I would suggest checking out some of the game before investing but if you like trying something from left field give it ago

Stable Orbit is an interesting one, Firstly I was given a key by the dev, along with 5 additional keys to giveaway. I have played a small amount of the game which you can see in this let’s try.

Firstly it should be said I love the concept. Managing a space station is a great idea and although we have seen it before in games like spacebase they are always based well in the future where players are colonising massive structures for people to live. This is about astronauts carrying out their jobs and surviving in the current day.

The game looks great, and plays well. I would suggest a slight change to the labels when items are being built. A couple of times I couldn’t find the marker to tell what I had or hadn’t built.

My only issue with the game is the lack of human element. Astronauts arrive at your station but we don’t see them they just have a name and a job. Without this connection to my astronauts I find I don’t really feel bad if they have no food or drink. Or its too hot or cold. This is my preference however.

My only other issue is the longevity, once you have built everything where do you go? Still if you love space then I would recommend trying this. If you want something a bit more story driven go with rimworld.

Terrior is a quaint little tycoon game, allowing you to run your own wine making business. It features attractive tile based graphicscs and an excellent soundtrack. However if you’re looking for something to sink your teeth in to it might lack slightly on the management / Tycoon side.

This being said I haven’t played a huge amount of time to see all it has to offer, but after an hour or so I feel I have seen enough. You can see my first look at the game here.

The above isn’t to say it’s a bad game, the process to make wine in an interesting one which makes you think. If I leave the wine here for 2 months my ratings will be x meaning that I need to do the next step for 1 month. Unfortunately not knowing about wine maybe hinders my experience slightly ie is a chardonnay meant to be sweet or bitter etc.

I would suggest that you try this game if you have an interested in the wine industry or your'e looking for a casual tycoon game to fill some time.

Is it for me? No. Would I recommend it? Not at the current asking price.

Heat signature is an interesting one, I saw it a couple of years ago as an early look and it remained in my list of wanted games ever since. I stopped actively following it a while back and then bam today it popped up on my wish list as being available.

Firstly wow a lot has changed! Secondly it’s still just as fun as the first look I saw all those years ago.

Now I have only played it briefly which you can see below in a first look video. I can see myself spending hours in this. It’s one of those just one more turns games where all of a sudden you realise its way past your bed time.

I have only scratched the surface and am looking forward to getting back to it. If you like the look of it pick it up and support the devs who once again have done things the right way.

Hospitalize is an interesting game. I will point out I have only played a small amount so far. It is a game I intend to come back to and invest more time in. I will admit I am a sucker for simulation and building games. You can see a first look video here of the game

On to the review

Hospitalize is a fun little game with some interesting elements and a few flaws that don’t impede it to much. Any memories of Theme Hospital are quickly removed as its set up as a “serious” building management Sim. The building element is simple and the icon to show where the user would stand to use equipment is something missing in a lot of other games in the genre. Hiring / firing staff is pretty much as expected as is managing the budget. Where Hospitalize is different is the mircomanagment you could diagnose a patient before your Dr if you feel like it. However you will need to expand the facilites available in the hospital to really get to the bottom of an illness. You do this buy unlocking levels and which each level new equipment.

I will say the UI can often make or break a game like this, however in this case it has its flaws, but its functional. It wasn’t so frustrating that I could not deal with it but it could do with some tweaking to make it a little more user friendly.

All in all I enjoyed my brief time with the game and I will re visit and replay soon.

I am struggling to write the review because the idea of the game is right up my street. However there are some issues. The game sets itself out as management sim but its more a clicker game at present there isn’t enough here at present for simulation fans to sink their teeth in to. Once you move past the Tavern section it tries to play like a tabletop rpg but without any character investment or decision making.

It is early access so some of these things can be changed but I feel it would be better placed choosing one of the two genres.

If you want an in depth sim game this is not it. If you want a fantasy based rpg this is not. That being said I think it has potential I would place it in the keep an eye on category and see what the devs do in the coming weeks / months.

What I can tell you is the The Automatician is a puzzle game with a different look and feel, I get the feeling that will be where most of the appeal comes from. The graphics are ok, the characters are designed to bring a cute yet disturbing presence to the game. However what will make or break the game will be the puzzles. I only played the first few and they were fun and the animations were pretty cool.

My main issue was the lack of being able to zoom in to a puzzle meaning I couldn’t see the pieces clearly enough to be sure I was putting the start in the right place. This means I spent longer on each puzzle having to try the pieces in each direction. Either allowing a zoom or adding a coloured base to the start of the piece although the zoom would fit better in the theme of the game.

All in all a fun little puzzler (which are not normally my style of game.) I cannot comment on its longevity but if you like puzzlers this one feels quite unique

As someone who loves football. This game pokes fun at every stereotype the game of football and its fans throw up. Funny writing and an intriguing take on the usual football controls makes this game an interesting little package.

The game offers only two modes of play but truth be told you are only ever going to play one and the tutorial.

I won’t give too away any of the story but the game mechanics have you improving your team through skills, some you unlock only by winning other you spend money to improve.

Let’s move on to the actual kicking of the ball (the most important part of the game). The controls are simple and easy to pick up. Passing, shooting, tackling, dashing and dodging are the controls with added after touch for curling the ball. Add in some wacky offside rules, goals counting for more depending on how far away they are and earning more money based on how entertaining you are. All in all a fun little game, how long it stays entertaining is still to be determined. For £2.50 its 100% worth a shot.

Not only would I recommend it I’m looking forward to getting back to playing it.

Market Tycoon is an interesting one, everything I saw about the game made me think it was going to be awful. I assumed it was going to be the way to common issue on steam now days of a poor game making it to the platform.

I’m pleased to say that’s not the case. Yes it needs work, yes graphically its poor, the UI is basic, the character of the game is lacking. With all that said I still enjoyed my time with it. If you are looking for an in-depth tycoon game look elsewhere. If you’re looking for something easy to pick up and play that ticks some of the tycoon game boxes it might be worth a try.

As I always say with early access games only pick it up if don’t mind the possibility of being let down by the developers. That’s not to say that’s going to happen here but early access always comes with that possibility.

Should you buy it? Maybe

Is it any good? It shows potential of being a fun lightweight tycoon game.

Final Word: You could always hold on until the developer shows some progress in early access.
