I think if you like Metroidvanias, then you'll like this game. I saw a lot of people saying they didn't care for the humor but the humor was fine. I appreciated all of the gaming easter eggs crammed in there I also remember some people saying the platforming was disappointing but I thought it was just right with plenty of puzzle rooms to work through. Maybe the most disappointing is that the game is a too easy until you get to hard mode and it even tells you that this is where the game really starts. I'm glad I'm a bit of a completionist because the hard mode really does feel like the proper way to play the game. Also the combat was a lot of fun, you can get stunlocked a bit but it overall it was very satisfying to play.

This was another game on my radar for a while and I'm glad I finally got to play it. I can see why people were saying things like it was anticlimactic but I still think there was a lot of heart put into crafting this story. While the ending was disappointing, I don't think it was the wrong way to end it and I don't think the game or the story would stick with you if they had wrapped it all up in a neat bow. It was all really unique and it is worth your time.

The game was on my radar for a long time and I’m glad I finally got around to it! It was surprisingly long, probably took me a bit under 40 hours. It was very good though. Definitely felt like a Witcher game, especially the early ones, and it’s basically the only one we’ve gotten in like 10 years.

The Gwent battling was a bit too easy, to the point it became a slog. Especially in the later chapters where the puzzles seem to disappear and there are a lot more standard battles. The last battle was the first time I felt like a match was close and it was because I had been running a bare minimum deck the whole game. The puzzles were mostly very good. They all used the Gwent board but mostly felt nothing like Gwent.

Aside from that the art, music and full voice cast was really good. It was more like an interactive book. Shame they probably won’t ever make another one because it didn’t sell well. I went looking if there are any other games out there like this and there’s basically nothing else out there.Hopefully they make more Witcher tales one day.

Early Access Review
I want to like this game but I just can’t get into it. I am not big into rogue likes but I’ve beaten Hades a bunch of times so I thought I’d enjoy this but I just can’t. Here are my issues:

1. So much of the combat feels clunky. It’s terrifying to be in a space with more than one enemy at a time. It feels like most of the time there’s a range fighter nearby and they’ll pick you off quickly. Not to mention it sucks to vault over an enemy just to end up in another enemy’s attack. The wall running and knife falling thing is REALLY cool and forgiving. But I find myself running past enemies just to conserve health.
2. I just feel too weak. I know that’s how these games start but unless you’re going out of your way to scour each map you can totally miss seemingly crucial upgrades to scale your damage. I don’t remember ever feeling this way in Hades. Not to mention it feels like you take 3 hits and you’re dead. I have gotten the first boss down to at most a quarter and the fight is just so long I can’t hold out for the 4-5 hits.
3. The maps just feel too long. Even when I get better, I can’t see myself doing the maps that much faster. I legitimately dread getting the library over the aqueducts (and I know the aqueducts are long too). At least with the aqueducts I don’t know if the end is near. But with the library I know where the end is and I know when I’m 1/4,1/2,3/4 of the way there and it just drags on. If the levels are longer after the first boss I’d for sure be dropping it there.

So the art is nice, the traversal system feels unique, but I just don’t enjoy the core elements of the game.

I’ve been on a Metroidvania kick lately and I’m loving this one! I doubt my purchase would have made a difference but I wish I’d gotten this last year before Ubisoft cut the team. Hopefully this title grows in sales over the years and Ubisoft will come around on this again. I’d be a day one buyer for a sequel
