Yet another genre that gets a rogue makeover. And it works like a charm!

Pre-Bought the game. Logged on for a couple of hours the minute it got released. Had a good time actually! Been queuing since... constantly kicked out, now nothing seems to be working.

So it's been a couple of days, but the queues seems to be much better now. Hence the thumbs up. Played a few hours and it actually has a lot of good things going for it! Crafting, exploration, survival elements, sudden death by crocodile, chores, friendly and helpful players, lots of lore, absolutely gorgeous graphics and random weirdness.

One of the best experiences in a long time. Innovative, uncanny and deeply psychologically moving use of AI combined with good storytelling and exploration. In short, experience deep trauma by reliving it augmented by technology that might be around the corner. It is the kind of game that begs for a sequel or two.

About 15 hours into the game just at the start of Act III. To summarise this game is an amazing addition to the genre, especially interesting perhaps for the few of us waiting for the upcoming Diablo IV game.

A few thoughts:
  • This game deserves a way better score on Steam! I can only guess it is due to a buggy past where users could partake in earlier stages of development.
  • The graphics are simply amazing. Landscapes and surroundings really makes the GFX-card (Radeon RX480) sweat a bit. But even with screen filled to the brim with action - no lagging.
  • Finding high-tier items is hard - it is similar to Diablo II where things feel quite rare. In my view this is all good. Perhaps even something in between legendary and unique?
  • Balance - this is tricky, because most of the time it is really hard to die - except with the boss-fights which were surprisingly well-balanced and actually difficult. Elites could perhaps be a bit more buffed?
  • It is definitely a good price point for it at the moment. Hours of action and replayability.
  • Good storyline - it is intriguing, fairly complex and quite well-written. Not at all too predictable and even has a few GOT-moments to it...

A few things to improve:
  • Inventory - something is buggy here as it often misses the RMB to transfer. As always it is tricky to compare items so any help in that direction is more than welcome.
  • Using several buttons at once like holding RMB plus a number key while also trying to press Q to drink a potion in order to stay alive often fails. This part feels buggy somehow.
  • The gem section feels a bit unsatisfying - perhaps it is because it mimics other games but fails to push this interface further. So far there is no way of combining gems or similar?
  • Powerups and companions - the information about and effect of these are hard to tell, these should be presented somewhere at the HUD.

Have played most of Piranha Bytes games over the past two decades - except this one! Somehow Gothic 2 became the first game I played and still is one of my favourite gaming experiences. Rolling forward to 2016 and I bought the first one in a bundle and decided to give it a shot. Playable, but age showed so it was a brief encounter. Therefore this was super exciting news to learn that a remake was considered and with a playable demo as well - Fantastic!

Now naturally I have to compare it to ELEX since I'm still deep into that one, and the things that stands out is controls in general, interaction and combat. Simply put, fix controls and combat so that it adheres to PB standard and the rest will follow. Sometimes the dialogue is clunky which should be easy to fix.

Overall it was a very enjoyable demo!

Played it for almost five hours with mixed results. Having played the Wolfenstein series since the very dawn of 3D-shooters, expectations were perhaps over the top for this one. I went for the solo play since it was stated that it would work.
What I expected:

* Protagonist(s) with a fierce attitude towards Nazis
* Well written story line and script
* Smooth game mechanics with engaging encounters

What I got:

* A hopeless stalking AI companion that basically dies or gets in the way most of the time
* Nice visuals, but a lot of hunting small quests - no main story line?
* A no-refund from Steam when requested (since I struggled with it for 4 hours rather than the maximum two)

Basically, that last point might be worse than it being a somewhat flawed game. Perhaps it just makes more sense as a co-op but that is just not my cup of tea.

The Room Two continues where the first left off with a trove of new puzzles to solve that progresses the story. The Cthulhu-escue atmosphere does it just and greatly contributes to the mystic experience, and the puzzles are at some points fairly difficult actually. I spent almost five hours on the game and while it was short I must say it was definitely worth both time and money spent.

Early Access Review
Having played one hour I can say that this was well worth the purchase. I was sceptic at first since many other VR games have come out short of expectations (Including Batman Arkham VR for PSVR), but this one delivers full embodyment of what a room scale VR dungeon crawler might offer. It really felt like going back to a classic like Shadowgate or Eye of the Beholder game - making the extrapolation of what that experience would be in VR. Excellent job by the team behind this game.

HIGHS: The inventory felt perfect! Exploring and putting stuff on fire is really fun. Movement by teleportation feels natural the way its implemented. The most exiting moments so far was related to finding hidden areas and being attacked for the first time.
