Early Access Review
A friend of mine suggested the game to me on a whim. As a board gamer who enjoys the concept behind "engine-building" board games, the idea of Satisfactory definitely appealed to me.

The learning curve at the start was admittedly a little steep for me (perhaps I'm just bad though, it happens), but once I got into a rhythm, I just couldn't stop thinking about this game and how I wanted to improve my setups (which are still trash after almost 150 hours of playing, but hey, that means I'll have fun content FOR AGES while I strive towards self-improvement). At the time of this initial review (1/13/21, just in case I edit and add more later), there are still no story elements in the game, but they are planned to be there later on once 1.0 launches. On that note, Coffee Stain actually does a great job with community updates via YouTube and the game's subreddit, and that alone gives me a lot of hope for the future of this Early-Access game.

But I do want to stress that there is a BONKERS amount of entertaining content in this game already. Coffee Stain could totally ♥♥♥♥ the bed and forget about this game tomorrow and it would still be worth the purchase price because it's so entertaining.

If building efficient machinery and watching conveyor belts... convey is up your alley, please do yourself a favor and give this one a peek. Cheers.

So having beaten the game and seeing just some of the possible directions as well as the loose ends I wasn't able to handle or at least handle as well as I'd like, I would say I'm enthusiastic that I bought this at $32. If you see it on some Steam sale going forward for even less than that, PLEASE treat yourself to this incredible RPG experience.

I can't pretend this game is for everyone, but you have to try it to figure it out. I got to give it a whirl during the free weekend a month or two ago and that prompted me to purchase the full game rather quickly.

Yes, as many others have brought up, the save system is incredibly wonky. In order to save, you either have to sleep in an owned bed, or you have to drink a special potion that saves the game for you, of which you don't have infinite access to, particularly at the start of the game, so you need to be picky. This can be a huge burden for people who don't have a lot of time to play for hours consecutively. It DOES get easier to manage later on with alchemy to make more of the potions, but it's still a little bit of an uphill battle to get to that point.

I also have never enjoyed combat progress in a game quite as much as this one. You start off as a blacksmith's son, so of course you know nothing about combat, and it shows when you start. But your progression with combat shows itself so naturally over time and I absolutely love it about the game.

If you're someone who has the time to be patient for save opportunities, I would highly suggest giving it a whirl when it's on sale. If it's not for you, I'm sorry, but for those that it IS for, you will have such an incredible time that I still feel incredibly comfortable recommending this game.

There are more things to say, but a lot of it doesn't do the game justice anyway. So give it a shot and I hope it works for you like it did for me.
