Danganronpa V3, being a sequel to the wonderful Danganronpa series carried a huge amount of expectations for me, and it for the most part managed to deliver, with some exceptions.

The visuals to this game are a massive upgrade to the first two games with the extra production time being visibly felt throughout the game. The UI feels fresh and so do the new gameplay elements and all of the visuals of the game. The executions feel far more gruesome than the previous two games, with unique aspects to each of them. The audio on the other hand is not quite as iconic as the first two games as it tries to have its own soundtrack which is hit or miss for the most part but still manages to be enjoyable. The voice actor for the series mascot and iconic character Monokuma also initially does not quite sound right for the character, although this gets better later on in the game. There is a major complaint about the gameplay however, which is that on mouse and keyboard some aspects of the game are borderline painful to operate. Due to the game often not registering keypresses for an amount of time, segments that require precise button presses become nearly impossible to do cleanly and essentially turned into praying for the game to take my input so I can get past them. This was a huge annoyance and seems to be a porting issue with no fixes as far as I am aware.

The story and cast of Danganronpa V3 still manage to give the player the Danganronpa experience, with the cast feeling fresh and new and each character having their own personality and motivations. The interpersonal relations and side conversations between the characters are all enjoyable and manage to make the player feel invested in all of the characters, and the overall story of the game was just as if not more enjoyable than the previous games with one exception, which is the ending. While the ending has a message which is understandable and good, it manages to deliver it in one of the worst possible ways, going out of its way to essentially ruin the entire series for many. The final showdown and trial is confusing and almost unenjoyable and tries too hard to be meta with referencing the previous games, which dragged the entire story of the series down for me.

The final game in the Danganronpa series returns with a very refined gameplay, an enjoyable but hit or miss soundtrack and a storyline which is fantastic until it takes a nosedive in the end. I still recommend playing the game as it for the most part makes for an enjoyable experience, but empathize with those who are massively disappointed by the ending to the entire series.

Being the second game of the series, I 100% recommend playing the first game in the series first as this game expands the connected world of the Danganronpa series.

Danganronpa 2 is a great sequel to a great visual novel. While it does not try to particularly improve many of its visuals and carries a decent amount of the original soundtrack, it adds enough new gameplay elements and songs and remixes to keep the gameplay going and feeling fresh, while the story is arguably a huge improvement over the first game.

As previously said, probably partly due to its relatively short production time, the game's UI or gameplay still manage to feel very familiar to those who have played the first game, although there are new gameplay elements and class trial minigames, although some of them are... not very polished at best. Regardless they manage to keep the player engaged, and while the soundtrack borrows heavily from the first game, especially with multiple remixes of the old themes, it still manages to be enjoyable and the new tracks are all very nice.

The story is where the Danganronpa series shines, and Danganronpa 2 delivers a surprisingly enjoyable cast, with a majority of the characters being a step up from the previous game's. There are more connections between the characters and you will feel very connected with them by the end of the game, and some of the characters feel particularly fresh, completely shattering the player's expectations and delivering insane and unexpected twists to the player's previous knowledge of the games. This results in the cast being incredibly enjoyable as you often cannot quite tell what is going in their minds, and by the end of the game where you will know most of the truths of the many mysteries of the games your idea of who the characters really were may change entirely. The game's story manages to feel fresh and unique, and the ending was arguably far more thrilling than the first game's. While some parts of the game may manage to feel unrealistic compared to the first game, it still manages to explain itself in full and not shatter the player's immersion in the world it's built.

Overall, this game is my favorite in the series, particularly due to the amazing characters it introduces, with Nagito in particular being the most enjoyable character in the series for me. While the visuals and especially the music doesn't change too much, it still manages to feel new and not hold the fantastic storyline back and I wholly recommend playing it if you enjoyed the first game.

A classic and great visual novel, Danganronpa combines sometimes dated or janky looking yet still eye catching and gruesome visuals, a very well written storyline and a great OST. By the end of the game many of the dialogue will feel iconic, and almost all of the characters will be very well fleshed out and enjoyable. This leads to the class trials, which is the bulk of the action you're getting all being very enjoyable and making you feel emotionally attached to the outcome and invested in the mystery.

While the UI and some of the assets show the age of the game, they do not really hold the game back. They're more than good enough, and do not hold back the player. And while some of the class trial minigames can be painful, they're packaged with a fantastic OST which makes them far more enjoyable than they might be without them. The OST in general does a lot of the atmospheric heavy lifting, providing gruesome tunes, exciting beats and anxiety inducing background music when it's needed. The executions are also all thrilling and one of the best parts of the game.

The main story of Danganronpa is mostly linear, but there are many side conversations which are all very enjoyable and provide much more details about the characters, sometimes even making it possible to predict things and making the player feel much more emotionally attached to the characters. The cast is enjoyable, and their connections and relations grow as the game goes on. The story itself, both in the trials and in the bigger picture of Danganronpa storyline feels cohesive and while shrouded in mystery after mystery eventually manages to successfully explain most if not all things.

Overall I wholeheartedly enjoyed this game and as the first game in the series fully recommend playing it first if you're interested in the games, as experiencing the games after is much more enjoyable with the prior knowledge and worldbuilding. While janky at times, the visuals and sounds do not fail, and the story is quite the ride.

Nothing is more satisfying than shredding thousands of samurai with artillery pieces and revolver cavalry before they ever get to your front lines.

Classic controls recommended if using a controller.

This game deserves almost every praise it gets. I was spoiled almost everything in it and knew almost everyone from playing most of the other instalments before. However, the sometimes generic and goofy yet intriguing story isn't the strongest point as it's already been freely retconned in the other games. The atmosphere and most importantly the sound design is fantastic, always keeping you in dread with the various soundtracks and enemy sounds which may be the only thing saving you from being attacked out of nowhere with your limited line of sight due to the fixed camera. Even if you know every single secret, be it the all famous dogs or other entities, their entrance and execution can be genuinely fearsome at times, which can be combined with your need to collect and manage various things in your limited inventory space to create many tense situations. You may need to spend a lot of time exploring or backtracking due to the many, many puzzles in the different zones, but once you find them out they can be very satisfying, or very punishing, depending on whether you've done things right or wrong.
