I have not completed the story mode yet but I felt compelled to review anyway. This is a really cool game, with an immaculate vibe. Visually, it is stunning at every corner and even the most mundane areas are jam packed with little details. The world/story is fairly interesting, however, this game lacks a certain kind of "depth" in its gameplay. The gameplay loop consists of: get mission/waypoint, go there (try not to crash into traffic, keep your gas tank full), park the car, wander to waypoint and talk to NPC, look for collectibles in the area, get back in car, rinse and repeat.

This gameplay loop would get stale a lot more quickly if it weren't for the constant conversations you get to listen to as you go about your tasks, which aren't bad at all. However, sometimes it feels like the amount of dialogue you need to sit through last a LOT longer than the mission you're on, meaning you are going to sit or stand around waiting for the dialogue to finish up so you don't trigger a new event that interrupts it. This is only a minor gripe because the writing is pretty fun to listen to, if you can excuse some silly voice acting here and there.

My biggest gripe is the fact that the city of Nivalis is so big and has extensive world building and depth, but there isn't really any way to explore it deeper. Walking around feels mostly pointless, and once you have gathered all the collectables in an area, there is no real incentive to go back. I think this game could benefit from a few randomly triggered events that require action, stuff that could only add to the lore. More stuff like when entire districts start to collapse below in front of your eyes would be awesome. I think it would also be cool if (borrowing from GTA) you could trigger police/corpsec chases from erroneous driving, since you spend a lot of the time driving around. That being said, I am at a point in the game where there were a couple of timed "getaway" missions which were a much needed change of pace for the game, shame these were almost 8 hours into the core game.

Overall, I really like this game and I think it is undoubtedly visually/sonically stunning. The worldbuilding is awesome, I only wish that there were more opportunity to dive just a little bit deeper. Despite this, I think the game is well worth your money if only for the aesthetics alone. I might even check out the DLC!

yeah that was pretty good i would say. best borderlands bc this one is actually hard lol, no bullet sponges for the sake of bullet sponging. Progression is pretty natural overall. Holds up, even today.

Allahu Ackbar Simulator 2015

If you have the hardware to run it and you enjoy immersive, tactical shooters, this game is for you. I judge the quality of a game based on its abilitiy to give me anxiety and this game is no exception, i've had my heart rate accelerated for hours at a time while playing Insurgency and the community can occasionally add some comedy to the game.

10/10
