Eyes up Guardian.

Welcome to the world of Destiny 2. You play a mostly silent protagonist who was chosen by the large ball in the sky called 'The Traveler'. You and your ghost (the sentient little floating bot that is your connection to The Traveler) go on missions to protect not just the last of humanity, but also The Traveler itself from aliens who are bent on destroying the last city and humanity as a whole. Whether you choose the wise Warlock, the fleet of foot hunter, or a stalwart Titan... you will be given the option to wield magical light and dark powers. Regardless if you choose the burning solar, the nullifying void, the crackling arc or the freezing stasis powers... you will not be alone. Other guardians will be alongside you and you will always have your guns ready. Master your powers. Save the Last City... and the galaxy.

Ok now that you have a taste of what it feels to first step into Destiny 2... It's time I tell you what it's like after 4000 hours playing the game. I will break it down some so you know the good and the bad of each.

Crucible...
This is the classic PvP place... you pit your skills, powers and guns against other guardians. This use to be polluted with cheaters, but since they now have Battleye Anticheat... it's been a bit easier to bare. You will need the current expansion to play some of the higher content such as Trials of Osiris.

Strikes/Nightfalls...
This is the missions outside of story content that become a regular of the PvE content. Strikes and Nightfalls are pretty much the same thing with the exception of one detail. Nightfalls are a select group of strikes that have been made deliberately hard with modifiers. The more difficult the version of the nightfall... the better the loot you get for completing it. Also as the difficulty goes up... the matchmaking gets eliminated and you'll need to find a fireteam to do them.

Raids and Dungeons...
Raids are your end game content... team up in 6 man teams to complete them. Often they will have mechanics that are specific to that raid. Acquire a buff to see which controls that only someone else with a different buff can shoot. Decipher symbols so that you know which path a person with an orb needs to go. Its about teamwork... not just point gun, pull trigger and watch enemy drop loot. Dungeons on the other hand are 3 man semi-raids. They aren't as long and the mechanics are easier due the lower required number of people. Some really good players have completed dungeons solo too. Regardless if you're running a raid or dungeon... you have the potential to get loot specific to raid or dungeon. Some even have exotics.

Gambit...
Alright, alright, alright... This is a PvEvP hybrid game mode. Take out PvE enemies to get motes that you deposit in a bank to take on a final boss to win. It's a race that pits two teams of 4 against each other. Occasionally a portal will open and allow you to invade the other side. Defeating guardians with motes causes them to drop them or if they are on their boss... heal the final boss. Just don't forget... just like you can invade their side... they can invade yours! This has undergone a bunch of changes over the years. Including dropping the number of rounds from best of 3 to 1, armor that enhanced abilities when wearing more pieces... to just the pace in which it goes. There is a little bit for everyone in this mode.

Seasonal content...
Each expansion is broken into 4 seasons... and each has it's own unique things to do. You will stay busy, but not to the point that a casual player will be unable to do most of what they want. i strongly suggest getting the season pass right off the bat due to the sheer number of advantages you get from it, but even a free player won't be locked out of stuff that is worth it. The problem with seasonal content is it eventually gets repetitive it starts to get rather boring.

All in all the game offers a lot to do and with the multitude of options... it makes it a rather addictive combination. You'll to do other things, but something will draw you back... you'll miss your fireteam and the quirky individuals and NPCs (I'm looking at you Failsafe and Asher).
