If you've played other survival games you know what to expect with this for the most part, however it adds some RPG elements that I really enjoy and the building system, while taking some getting used to, is interesting to work out. Later in the game some of the fights can get a bit "spongy" but it's not usually so much of a hassle that you can't solo them if you want to. They're constantly working on new features and improving some of the older stuff, and you don't really miss out if you don't own the DLCs because they just add extra cosmetics, alternate building pieces, and extra gear that is effectively equivalent to what you can make without it. All major content updates so far have been free to all players and the developers support the modding community with easy access to public developer tool-kits and base-game assets. The game is worth the cost/time investment even at full price and the DLCs (if you want to buy them) can be obtained as bundles or individually. Solid 7/10.

I've been a fan of Monster Hunter for a long time, started with Freedom Unite and played every western entry up to World, so here's my take on the game as a veteran player.

The Good: Starting off I will just state the obvious that the game itself is beautiful, but diving deeper it does a lot of things with the established formula that honestly makes it hard to go back to other titles. It's easier than ever to play with friends on a much more stable network, the game makes a lot of quality of life improvements to several of the systems and interfaces which also works to make it more accessible to newer players, and the combat has been fine-tuned and refined to be on par with a lot of other well-known modern action-RPGs. There is always something new to chase and the game is constantly being updated with new content at least every few months, so the grind is there for those who want it and the fights themselves keep it from being brain-dead monotonous. There are also plenty of interesting cross-overs and events that liven up the world as time goes on.

The Bad: There are a few downsides to World in general that I feel need to be stated, regardless of platform. The game as an entry in the franchise has less content overall than most others, fewer monsters and variations in monster types. There are also some features in some of the more recent entries that I feel would have worked will in the game such as hunting styles/arts and deviant form monsters, though not everything added in older games would fit well with World I feel the features that I mentioned would have worked to improve the game and truly make it the best in the series by far.

The Ugly (Or the problem with PC): It's widely known by the game community that the PC version of MHW while possibly being the most accessible is also the most neglected. First off the Mouse and Keyboard controls are hardly intuitive and make it hard to recommend people play with anything other than a controller. The content updates that PC receives are dated about half a year behind the console versions of the game and can make it much less enjoyable knowing that people can already have finished and potentially spoiled new content that we haven't even gotten our hands on yet, and sadly it doesn't seem like that is changing anytime soon. Also because of this difference in release dates PC users miss out on some cross-overs and quests that come to consoles as part of certain event updates, making it feel almost like we're getting things second-hand from the console users all the time. Another HUGE glaring issue that I've had friends encounter is save-file corruption on PC, it seems any sort of instability in your system has a chance at putting your progress at risk. There are ways to get around this issue but the frustration that it exists in the first place is the worst part.

In Summary: Monster Hunter World is a great game on its own and a strong entry in the franchise, however it lacks some of the staying power that other monster hunter games had. I would wholeheartedly recommend this game to anyone I feel would appreciate it but I cannot bring myself to say "You should get this game on PC instead." If you have a console you can play with friends on I think that would be the best option, if not you will still have a great experience regardless of where you decide to play.
