Early Access Review
Though I only have a handful of hours logged so far, I can tell you that this is a very special game.

Truly excellent game. To date, one of my favorite survival crafting games out there, notable for not only being complete, but unique in that you're taking care of your vehicle's needs, and not your own. It's a vibe, and it was wonderful to exist in this world for over 50 hours.

Perfectly fine game with expressive, fun platforming. I find myself wishing it were more of a traditional platformer than a Metroidvania-- Whatever isn't directly related to platforming itself feels awfully tertiary. That said, you can't go wrong for six dollars!

This is a well-made, if somewhat unambitious 3D platformer. It's aimed at kids, and not particularly difficult. It made me smile when playing it, and there's a surprising amount of references to 80's pop culture sprinkled throughout, especially for fans of pro wrestling.

The story isn't much to write home about, but it would have been nice to see a more fleshed-out motivation from the antagonists, as I believe there's room for it without undermining the cheery tone of the plot.

Gianni voices the rats. Oh, and the game is pretty good.

Joyous game. Doesn't overstay its welcome. Good vibes all around, and genuinely funny dialogue. If you played A Short Hike, this is A Somewhat Longer Hike, and that's a good thing!

It's a fine game. Short, charming, and doesn't overstay its welcome (too) much. A few sections made me feel like a bonehead, though.

That said, there's some frustrating bits. The ground pound is fine, but the tail whip that precedes it will end up being a hindrance if you're too close to a wall, knocking you away. I've also had several problems with depth perception, especially during the final sequence.

I played on a Steam Deck, so the lack of any real graphical or resolution settings didn't bother me much. That said, it's not something anybody should get in the habit of doing.

Excellent game. The presentation, both visual and aural, is immaculate. The game's combat is simple and effective, and it doesn't waste your time. You get to peek into an interesting little world, and the game's sense of humor is lovely.

Absolutely worth your time, should you consider it.

This is a decent game. One of the prettiest I've ever played, for certain. Like playing a Pixar movie in real-time. Ran into some strange issues, though. The game crashes whenever I enable DLSS Frame Generation, so that's out. Got about four or five crashes in the last 15% of the game's story, too. Thankfully, autosaves are so frequent that I never felt dissuaded to pick the game back up.

As for it being a Ratchet & Clank title, it's middling. It lacks an edge, and the story is... fairly self-indulgent. Everyone is *too* nice! For no reason!

The weapon upgrades system is also very lackluster. If you've played previous titles, you'll be used to your weapons drastically changing in behavior and power as you level them up. Few weapons change in fun, meaningful ways outside of upgrades you purchase with Raritanium, which is found throughout the levels as you explore. The starting pistol is incredibly boring, and never, ever stops sounding like a pea shooter. Invest your Raritanium elsewhere.

You'll find more in-depth critiques from reviewers, as the game has been out on PS5 for 2 years now. While it's nice that you get all the DLC armor included in this game, it really doesn't amount to much content, and the 60 USD asking price is far too much for what you ultimately get.

TL;DR:

Sub-par, annoying story with sanitized caricatures of Ratchet & Clank's characters.
Decent overall gameplay with some speed-bumps in difficulty and polish.
Very, very pretty, and scales well. The game looks nice even on low settings.
Get it on sale if possible.

Amid Evil has one of the best aesthetics I've ever seen in a first person shooter. It is relentlessly beautiful to look at, and Andrew Hulshult's soundtrack complements it nicely.

Not a single weapon in the arsenal feels useless, including the battleaxe. The game is a little on the easier side, so I'd recommend playing on Hard as a baseline. This game also has a demo-- you'll know whether or not this game is your jam right away.

My only sore spot with this game is overall boss design. It's a mixed bag. Some are more fun than others.

I occasionally got lost in some of the levels, but I'm certain that's more of me being a Big Dumb Idiot than anything else.
