Early Access Review
This is my new go-to when I want a fun time with minimal stress. Aldro is 250 MB in size and doesn't bog itself down, so I could be in-game exploring the world faster than I can type this sentence. On top of responsiveness, the gameplay itself sort of fits like a glove. I'll explain what I mean:
Aldro has hardcore punishments for death, yet the overall tone is casual and relaxing. When I launch Aldro, I can expect the vibrant art, alluring music, and exploration-based gameplay to provide an easygoing experience. I can also eventually expect the desperate rush of being at half health while in a tough situation, trying my best to get Aldro out alive no matter the cost of my supplies (and feeling utter defeat if I fail). The juxtaposition between harshness and relief in Aldro strikes a sweet balance, and it's not limited to hardcore death and softcore graphics: Aldro could die if you went AFK on a level with enemies remaining, but you could clear the level of enemies to simulate peaceful mode (barring home base raids). Aldro needs to eat to maintain its health, but does not get hungry when you're not moving. I love how I can rush levels quickly to find cool stuff or return to home base, but I can also take it slow and roam around a level at my own pace. There's an option to kick back at home base and farm resources alongside friendly villagers while fending off raiders, and when that gets boring, go find a level that has epic loot instead. All of these little things lend to this balance I mentioned earlier, and what I'm getting at is that this game has something for everyone. It's hard to explain, but Aldro accommodates any gameplay style and seems to know exactly when to punish the player with tough scenarios and when to ease up for player convenience. It's something I think you should experience yourself. You could probably have purchased, installed, launched, and enjoyed Aldro in the time it takes to read my attempt at explaining its player-friendly efficacy.
Highly recommended, at the very least as a lightweight, easy-access side game with a superb fun-to-size ratio.
