King Arthur: Knight's Tale (KA:KT) is an excellent turn-based tactics dark fantasy campaign game with role-playing elements.

You play Mordred, who was slain at the battle of Camlann but also wounded King Arthur so Arthur was brought to Avalon. But something went wrong, and the Lady of the Lake, herself one of the Sidhe, makes you her champion in Avalon. She needs you to kill King Arthur again, or what remains from him in the form of four soul shards tainted by dark magic.

In a campaign of four acts you have to destroy Arthur in four boss battles.

On the way to your goal you have to gather a round table of knights and wizards and rebuild Camelot.
In unique main and side missions you gather loot, gold, XP and advance your reputation.

The game has a Morality system. You can choose to support either the Old (Celtic) Faith or Christendom, and become a tyrannic or rightful ruler, allowing four different combinations. While you advance on the the two tracks of the Morality chart you get perks and unlock missions to recruit more heroes in addition to the ones you encounter in regular main and side missions.

Heroes belong to one of five different classes: Defender (has one-handed weapon and shield, for tanking and crowd control), Champion (has a two-handed weapon for damage dealing, both single targets and area of effect), Marksman (has a ranged weapon), Vanguard (highly mobile, backstabs and lays traps), Sage (support magic) and Arcanist (damage magic).
Each heroe is a named character (you will encounter many famous ones like Sir Kay, Merlin, Morgana, Sir Lancelot), with unique traits, unique loyalty (including heores who prefer certain moralities) and unique skill tree.
Your round table can only contain up two twelve heroes, so choose wisely which heroe to nominate.

In Camelot you have to rebuild the buildings piece by piece, unlocking perks such as titles (which raise loyalty or give perks), unlocking training or healing slots, unlocking more options to buy equipment and giving buffs to your heroes.

In the missions you go from encounter to encounter, choose dialogue options which can have different effects (including affecting Morality and Loyalty), and fight several tactical battles per mission against foes such as bandits, hedge knights, Undead, Sidhe and others. Chests with loot (some are hidden), magic altars and some unique encounters add variety.

After the missions you gather precious loot and gold, while characters in Camelot heal or get training XP.
With XP levels you can unlock new active or passive skills in the skill tree or improve them.

Graphically the game is quite beautiful with detailed environment and characters, with muted colours fitting the dark fantasy vibe.

I had great fun playing through the entire base game campaign on hard difficulty.

I only briefly touched the first additional free DLC (short campaign against Fomorians with the end game save).

The game does have flaws, such as Marksman class being too weak after act 2, having to send heroes permanently away (limited roster space), having to ditch equipment with useful perks because its level is too low, and lack of balancing of certain heroes.
However, coming December 2nd, 2023 a patch will address these and other issues.

So far two seasonal (end game) free DLC campaign has been released, as well as a free and two paid Skirmish DLCs (with a series of additional battles each, not connected to the base game campaign).
The developers have announced more seasonal end game campaigns and Skirmish DLCs.
Seasonal content will not be removed when new seasonal content is available, it remains playable.

The game features virtually no w0ke content. All important (playable) female characters in the game are either attractive or average looking. All playable female characters are either Vanguards (assassins), Marksmen (archers) or Sages/Arcanists (sorcerers), none of them are Defender or Champion (frontline) characters.
None of them reduce the male main character (Mordred) to a side-role or berate or ridicule him or other male characters.
The Lady of the Lake tries to control Mordred, but he is not fazed by it.
One of the playable female characters takes revenge for her and her daughters being violated in the distant past, but that part is based on a historical source, though other sources contradict it.
No political sermon at all is in the game, this is a real fantasy game.

I can recommend the game for everyone who loves turn-based tactical games, especially with role-playing elements, but advise to play after December 2nd 2023 for a more balanced and less flawed game.

This was just a placeholder, since for first posting there is a harsh word limit. Full review now up.
